• What women's trousers should be. The correct length of jeans: is it worth the bother?

    20.01.2024

When you buy pants, you may have questions: do you need to adjust the length? what is the correct trouser length? There is no clear answer to these questions. It all depends on the style and style of the trousers, on your preferences. The secret is to find the optimal length.

    3 TROUSER LENGTH OPTIONS

In the English tradition, there are 3 options for trouser lengths: full break, half break, no break. Break, in this case, is the fold or crease in the trousers that is formed above the boot at the front of the trousers. If you stand up to your full height, you may be able to see this crease (or creases). Conservative English style suggests that the bottom edge of the trousers at the back should reach the heel of the shoe, thus creating one fold above the shoe in front (full break). Italians believe that the bottom of the trousers can barely touch the shoe (no break). Accordingly, there may not be a fold in the front. The truth is often somewhere in the middle. Thus, the trousers of a slim fit suit will necessarily be tapered at the bottom and will hardly cover the entire shoe. However, if it is a business suit, you should take care that your socks are not visible when you are standing. This means you will need a half break - the length of the trousers to the middle of the back of the boot. 2 or more folds are considered bad manners in modern fashion. It's better to make sure this doesn't happen to you.

    WHAT LENGTH DO YOU NEED?

If you have classic non-tapered trousers, then you can choose any of 3 options. If the trousers are slim fit, choose half break or no break depending on the situations in which you will wear these trousers. It should be remembered that trousers with cuffs will look better with a shorter length. If you choose a short length, take care of socks. In this case, socks become an additional space for you to express style and creativity. Socks will be visible, which means they will attract additional attention, so you should make sure that they are in harmony with your image.

    Classic pants

    1. If you find it difficult to choose the length of your trousers, take trousers with a small fold at the bottom, so that the back of your shoes is half covered.
    2. If you squat down and feel too tight/wide, it’s not your size.
    3. If you can’t find the size, then look for another manufacturer. The pattern and cut are different for everyone. Perhaps you will have luck with another fashion designer.
    4. If possible, avoid folds in the waistband; they make people look overweight.

The length of the trousers depends on their width. The wider the trousers, the longer they should be. The width of classic trousers at the bottom is 2/3 of the length of the shoe, i.e. One third of the shoe should be visible. For such trousers, the length at the back can reach half the height of the heel or cover 2/3 of the heel. The front of the trousers should lie on the shoe and form one crease. If the trousers are without cuffs, then the hemline has a slope: the trousers are slightly longer in the back than in the front. If trousers have cuffs, then the bottom of the trousers should be straight (parallel to the floor). The width of the cuffs in trousers is from 3 to 5 cm.

    Wrong length!

    1. The length of the trouser leg should slightly cover the boot, ideally it should reach the middle of the boot. At the back it should be to the middle of the heel.
    2. Pants falling over shoes should not form more than one fold.
    3. Pants should be of such length that socks do not show through. But when a man sits down, his socks are visible anyway. Therefore, there is a separate rule about them: they must be matched to the trousers and be of such length that bare legs are not visible - this is bad manners.

    Chinos, khakis and corduroys

More casual trousers, such as chinos, khakis or corduroys, should be slightly more fitted than dress trousers. In addition, they can be worn 3 to 4 centimeters below the waist. However, it is worth paying attention to this point. If you wear chinos to work and correspond to the Business casual or Smart casual style, then the length and width of the trousers should be closer to the classic style. If you choose a casual style, then you can choose narrower and shorter trousers, even slightly revealing the ankle. Or vice versa, wider and longer, so that a fold is formed at the bottom.

    1. When choosing the length of trousers, you should proceed from the dress code. The larger the fold at the bottom, the more informal the dress code.
    2. Pants should be tight-fitting, so don't be alarmed if your pants feel a little tight when squatting. This is fine.
    3. Don't worry if your pockets protrude a little when squatting. This is normal for chinos, khakis or corduroys.
    4. Avoid folds at the waist; the two-finger rule is also relevant here.

    Jeans

Perhaps the most informal of all pants (we don’t take shorts into account). There are many options for how jeans should fit correctly. Basically, jeans are worn even lower than chinos. On most people, jeans that are slightly tapered at the hem look good. They should be slightly tight if we are talking about fashion and beauty. To be free, if we are talking about comfort.

    1) To choose the right men's trousers, you need to walk at least a couple of steps after trying them on. They should be as comfortable as possible. It is believed that you can fit two fingers into the waistband of “comfortable” jeans. Usually, after you have walked, it is easier to understand whether these are “your” pants or not.

    2) An important nuance - trousers should be held at the waist, not at the hips. This is not just a tribute to classics or fashion, but an aid in the visual correction of the figure. By nature, a man's belly is somewhat convex, and it is precisely the trousers that softly fit it and hide this small flaw. If the trousers hang on the hips, the emphasis will fall on the stomach.

    3) If dress trousers have pockets, then check that they do not protrude, as this deprives the image of elegance and causes an association with a boy who has stuffed everything into his pockets. In general, trouser pockets are intended only for keys or a wallet. For everything else, there is a briefcase or some other bag.

    4) It is also worth paying attention to the man’s physique in order to emphasize his advantages and gracefully hide his figure flaws. For example, straight trousers without creases and with wide legs are more suitable for a plump man, and trousers with cuffs and pleats at the waist, which will help hide excessive thinness, are more suitable for a thin, tall man.

    5) Do not forget that the trousers will not hold up on their own, and you will need a belt or suspenders. The classic option is, of course, a belt. For this purpose, 6 loops are usually made on trousers. If there are fewer loops, the pants may fit a little worse. The color of the belt should match the color of the shoes, and should not contrast too much with the color of the trousers. The more modest the belt looks, the better, of course. For extravagance, you can also wear suspenders, but do not forget that you need to choose one thing. Wearing both at the same time is a sign of terrible taste. By the way, the color of the suspenders should match the color of the tie (or be as close in tone as possible)

    6) Since trousers deteriorate much faster than jackets, it is worth buying them together, but it is better to take two pairs of trousers for one jacket. It is not necessary that the trousers and jacket be the same color. In this regard, you can experiment pleasantly, but you should not get carried away so as not to look vulgar.

Watch an interesting video about trousers:

Oddly enough, this is a new post related to style :) I miss you, friends and readers, and did not spare time and pictures for this long-awaited post about the length of trousers/trousers/jeans, so all eyes on length.

The first thing I would like to say is that in two days of targeted observation of women in trousers and jeans, I saw three (!) women who wore the correct length. So, in this sense, there will be few competitors, as well as examples that can be “seen” by people around.

Second - length trousers and jeans depends on their style.

Everyone seems to know that to the middle of the heel is the correct length, and they seem to have heard that it’s universal. But someone says that the rule is outdated. Not outdated. For classic women's trousers, this rule will never become outdated. This is not a question of trend or fashion trends - the question is whether you will look “shot” or not.

I have no idea “what kind of girl this is and where she lives,” but the photographs of “Afisha” are indicative...

    Flared trousers or jeans

Flared pants should cover your shoes. Preferably completely. This will add height, slimness and reduce a little hips for those who have too much of it. This is roughly what it should look like:

When Victoria Beckham wears jeans, she does it flawlessly.

It is also allowed to wear this way:

    With trousers, nothing actually changes:

A lyrical digression about the compatibility of such an aristocratic length with Russian reality.
In essence, it's not as terribly difficult to wear/clean as you might think. But, yes, shot trousers are, of course, more practical. Your will, as they say, and beauty requires, if not sacrifice, then effort.

    Tight pants

We are talking about trousers now, jeans will be discussed below. The fundamental difference is that skinny trousers are not narrow everywhere, they taper towards the bottom. Skinny jeans are tight.

Obviously, pulling tight trousers until they reach the middle of the heel is a worse Fort Boyard test. Skinny trousers should reach the ankle. Not above the ankle, not below the ankle. They should not cover the rise, sticking out from behind, including - this is a common mistake.

When you put on shoes and the heel touches the bottom edge of the trousers or the distance between them is less than a centimeter, most likely the length is chosen well. Correct options:

    Skinny jeans

Skinny jeans are for those who either have no hips at all or very, very few. Before you buy them, check how the hips are. Especially if the skinny jeans are low-waisted.

The length is generally the same as for skinny trousers. With the fundamental difference that when you put on skinny jeans, there should not be any footwear (also known as “footprints”), “flesh” nylon socks or any other colors, or tights. Skinny jeans suggest graceful naked leg with thin ankle. No options. If nature has not rewarded you with such a look, then these jeans will not look quite the way you think.

Our own gaze and home mirrors deceive us much more often than we can imagine, unfortunately. This is partly why we have so many poorly dressed women. A little trick: you can admire yourself most realistically in photographs. Especially ones done by accident when you're not posing. Mythical plus a million kilos is good, but not in this case. If you have a big fifth point in the photos, you have a big one. Is it true.

This is what well-chosen skinny jeans of the correct length look like.

And, finally, a selection of “shot” options. There is no need to do this:

Upd: Regarding the accordion in the last photo. The accordion makes logs even from the most graceful legs, this time. I wrote about what skinny jeans should show narrow bare graceful ankles. I highlighted this. Has anyone read it? Do you even see any ankles in this photo? I do not see.

And the last argument - when you wear short pants, a wrinkled suit and jeans that do not suit you either in length or width and create accordions - from the outside, this characterizes you as a person who is extremely careless and unpretentious to life. It's unlikely that your style is meant to demonstrate this.

By the way, many did not notice that the accordions at the bottom are also accompanied by old lady folds at the knee, which are very reminiscent of slipping Soviet tights.

    Therefore, the accordion is wrong.

Next up is a tutorial specifically on jeans models, men's trousers and high society fashion.

Any trousers, both men's and women's, will look good only if they are the right length. A woman who takes care of her wardrobe, who cares what her loved ones look like, must understand what the correct length is and what length is not correct. In order not to make a mistake, remember a few rules on how to choose trousers of the correct length in order to look decent and correct from the point of view of fashion designers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEEPN50JYKM

    • Trousers, both men's and women's, must be selected according to the height of the heel; in no case should the seam between the heel and the last be visible.
    • Actually, a couple of centimeters of length near the floor can decide how a person will look, as if he had just lost weight or just gained weight.
    • The trouser leg should reach the middle of the heel. It is very important to follow the rule about the trouser leg to the middle of the heel, it will never become outdated. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the trouser leg well to the heel.

Length of short and tapered trousers

    • There is a huge difference between cropped and short pants. A woman or man in short trousers always looks ridiculous and stupid. The legs appear shorter and the body is very large.
    • Almost all cropped trousers are tapered. We are talking only about those that end at the ankle.
    • Slim and tapered full-length trousers can be slightly cropped.
    • Remember that tapered trousers really highlight full hips and emphasize excess weight.
    • For skinny jeans, you need to have very narrow hips.

    Wide Leg Pants Length

    • If the trouser leg is wide, then you need it to practically touch the floor. Especially if you bought such trousers in order to match your hips.
    • When you start walking, squatting, turning, the pant leg will rise in any case. In addition, such trousers will make you walk very carefully, which will have a good effect on your gait and posture.
    • When walking, the trouser leg should not rise very much and expose the leg.

    What length should trousers be?

    1. When purchasing them, immediately imagine what shoes you will wear them with.

    2. Trousers must be adjusted to the heel in the studio.

    3. Wide ones should thoroughly cover the shoes.

    4. It is very beneficial to have two pairs of identical trousers (with high and low heels, with flat soles) than two different pairs.

    5. Many can be worn with different heels. It depends on the fabric and cut.

    6. You need to remember that if you gain a little weight, your trousers will rise up. You will need low heel shoes.

The correct length of trousers should always be taken into account by you. Nothing should spoil your image.

If you think that when you go out onto the main street, you will see examples of the correct length of jeans on women and girls, then you are mistaken. We have to state this with regret, but it is so.

In many ways, different styles of jeans are to blame for this, since the “correct” length of one style is completely unsuitable for another. And if you take into account that the height and physique of all girls is different, and they have a variety of shoes on their feet (sports, heels, stilettos, platforms, wedges, etc.), then the question of the optimal length of jeans becomes completely confusing.

Let's try to figure out what length these or other women's jeans should have. Let's start with the simplest thing - classic straight jeans. The “good old” rule says that the “correct” length should be to the middle of the heel. And don’t let the possible criticism from “advanced fashionistas” bother you. This is a classic and it obeys the laws of harmony, so let conversations about current trends concern new trendy styles.

Now a few words about the length of flared jeans, they are now back in fashion. Ideally, flared jeans should be of such length that your shoes are completely covered. This always adds height and reduces the fullness of the hips, if such questions are relevant to someone.

In the case of skinny jeans and, accordingly, their optimal length, everything is much simpler and at the same time more complicated. And that's why. They are not suitable for everyone, but only for slender girls with narrow hips. Therefore, those whose figures do not fall under this definition should not bother with skinny jeans and their length. And slender girls just need to remember that skinny jeans should reach the ankle. Not lower, not higher. This is their optimal length.
