At the request of visitors to the site, Globator.com made a lesson on photomontage of wings on original photograph! So let's get started. Preface to the lesson: it is advisable to read and master the previous lessons on photomontage.

    1. Open the photo from which we want to take our wings:

On the toolbar, click on the icon
    Quick Mask

Now double-click on the same icon to go to options. Make sure you have the same settings:

    Take the tool
    Brush
and carefully begin to select. The main thing here is not to rush.

To highlight small details, use a smaller brush size:

So, the entire wing is selected:

    Press Q on the keyboard:

    In the top menu click

    or Ctrl+C on your keyboard.

    2. Open the photo (in in this case with a girl), on which we will make a photo montage:

    Or Ctrl+V :

Press Ctrl+T on your keyboard to enlarge and move our wing to the desired position. Then press Enter:

Remove excess parts of the wing using
    Eraser tool

    3. On the toolbar, click on the icon
    Quick Mask
or press Q on your keyboard.

    Take the tool
    Brush
and carefully begin to select the second wing.

After finishing the selection, press Q on the keyboard:

    In the top menu click
    Edit-Copy
    or Ctrl+C on your keyboard.

    4. Open the photo with the girl and insert our wing:
    Edit-Paste
    or press Ctrl+V.

    Step 1

Open a photo of a dove with open wings. Select the background around the dove with the Magic Wand Tool (W).

    Step 2

Go to the Select menu? Refine Edge and move the sliders until the background becomes completely white. Change the View to better see what's left of the background.

    Step 3

Using the Magnetic Lasso Tool (L), select the dove's wing and copy it to a separate layer (Ctrl + J).

Select the other wing and copy it to a separate layer.

    Step 4

The second wing is white covered by the first, but we need it entirely. We'll fix it now. Use the Lasso Tool (L) to cut off the following shape:

    Step 5

Select the part of the wing that is overlapped and open the fill menu (Shift + F5).

    Use Content-Aware fill.

    Step 6

Select the feathers at the top and copy them down.

    Step 7

Activate Warp mode (Edit ? Transform ? Warp). Change the shape of the feathers to make them look similar to those around them. Merge the layers (Ctrl + E).

    Step 8

Use the Patch Tool (J) to remove the seams between the layers.

    2. Connecting the elements

    Step 1

Open the photo of the pig and use the Crop Tool (C) to crop it, leaving room for the wings.

    Step 2

Insert the wings into the document with the pig and place them on the back. Flip both wings horizontally (Edit ? Transform ? Flip Horizontal). Activate Free Transform mode (Ctrl + T) and change the size of the wings.

    Step 3

Now in Warp mode (Edit ? Transform ? Warp) we will change the shape of the wings.

    Step 4

Turn off the front fender for a while so we can see the rear fender better. Using the Magic Wand Tool (W), select the background around the pig while on its layer.

    Step 5

Add a mask to the wing layer to hide everything outside of it. Using a soft brush, erase the remains of the wing at the bottom so that it is clear that the wing is on the other side of the pig's body.

    Step 6

Bring the wing back to the foreground and use a soft brush to connect it to the pig's body using a mask.

    3. Realism of the object

    Step 1

Since we took the wings from another photo, they will have excellent white balance, which does not suit the pig. We'll change the colors a little bit. Create a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer for the wings. Change the hue and saturation to make the wings more suitable for the pig.

    Step 2

The edges of the piglet are soft, but the wings are crisp. Everything needs to be brought to the same form. Use a mask and a soft brush on the wings.

    Step 3

Now let's make the wings a little pink. Create a Color Balance adjustment layer for one of the wings and set it like this:

    Step 4

You need to apply color to the dark areas of the wings. This is possible thanks to the blending options. Open the styles window by double clicking on the layer. Move the white slider in the Blend If section.

Split the slider by holding down the Alt key.

    Step 5

The wing is still quite dark. Create a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer. Experiment with blending options.

    Step 6

The boundary between wing and body is not very convincing. Select part of the pig's body and copy it to a new layer.

    Step 7

Change the shape of the layer using Free Transform mode (Ctrl + T).

    Step 8

Add a mask and connect the fur to the wing.

    Step 9

Create a copy of the piggy layer and move it to the top. Add a mask and fill it with black. Paint over the areas where the fur should be with white.

    Step 10

Open the blending options and in the Blend If section try out the black slider. It makes black pixels more transparent.

In this lesson you will learn interesting tips for creating various forms, created from fire, and learn how to use filters, adjustment layers and masks to create this stunning effect.

    Final result

STEP 1. In the first step, open the image of the girl and crop this image. We will need more space for the fire wings, which is not enough at the moment.

STEP 2. Next, the required space for our original image is a little short, so cut out the middle part of the floor and place it on both bottom corners. Create a layer mask and brush the edges to create a smooth transition.

STEP 3. Using tools Brighten and Darken(dodge & burn), create light and shadow on the girl.

STEP 4. Cut out the model (using the Feather(pen tool) and remove the background.

STEP 5. Next, we will add a new background. Since the background image is too small for our working image, we will need to enlarge it, to do this, press CTRL+J to duplicate the background layer. Apply a layer mask and process the edges so that the transition is not visible.

Next, let's go Filter- Blur- BlurByGauss(Filters-Blur-Gaussian Blur) Radius(radius) 5 px to give the background more depth.

At this stage, the image looks a little symmetrical, but this can be easily corrected using the Stamp(clone stamp).

STEP 6. The background is dark and our model is too light, so we'll make it darker for a smoother look. color transition. Let's go to Correctivelayers- Curves(Adjustment Layers - Curves) and apply the settings as in the screenshot below. Use an adjustment layer Curves(Curves), as a clipping mask.

STEP 7. In this step we need to finish drawing the hair. This is easy to do with a tablet, but can also be done with a mouse. To begin with, using the tool Pipette(eye dropper) select a color shade by clicking on the girl’s hair, and then draw a few curls of hair. It will be enough to draw just a few curls. See the screenshot below to compare how it should be.

STEP 8. Upload your stock image of wings and arrange them however you like. After that, press Ctrl + I to invert the colors to create a dark base for the flame.

STEP 9. Load the flame image and apply the settings as in the screenshot below in the options Apply if(Blend if) in layer styles that are applied to the flame layer. Hold down the ALT key to reduce the dark space overlay - this action creates a smooth transition.

Translator's note: holding down the ALT key will activateshade settings, in layer styles - simultaneously hold down the ALT key and move the cursor to the shade value.

STEP 10. Add more flame images and match them correctly to the shape of the wings ( as a clipping mask(clipping mask). Using a clipping mask will give you a base to add flames to the wings.

STEP 11. Download another flame stock image and position it like in the screenshot below. Open again Layer Styles(Layer Style) - in settings Apply if(Blend if) move the slider to get rid of all the dark areas, set the settings as in the screenshot below. Remember to hold down the ALT key as you move the slider while setting values, creating a smooth transition. Next, on the layer mask, delete the parts that you want to hide and change the blending mode to Lightening(Screen). You can experiment with different blending modes until you get rid of all the dark elements in the image that remain after applying Layer Styles(Layer Style).

STEP 12. Below the flame layer whose mode is set to Lightening(screen), you can paint with a black brush with low opacity to increase the volume of the flame and reduce the opacity of the flame.

Translator's note: Create a new layer, apply a layer mask to the new layer and paint on the layer mask with a black brush with low opacity to enhance the flame.

STEP 13. Add flames around the wing.

STEP 14. Once you have finished placing the flames and have hidden most of the dark wing, flatten all the flame layers (or merge them into one group) and duplicate the merged layer (group). Apply transformation Flip Horizontally(Flip Horizontal) to the duplicated layer and position it accordingly. The wings look too symmetrical, so we'll fix that very quickly by adding more flames.

STEP 15. For better contrast I used regular Gradient Map - Black/white(Gradient Map black/white) - create a new one Adjustment Layer(Adjustment Layer) on top of the background (bg) folder, which contains an image of the wall and sky.

STEP 16. Don't forget to add flames on top of the model layer because otherwise, the model will look static and unrealistic. I added small flames on top of her arm, but below the hair layer and on top of her back. To the created layers with flames, I applied the blending mode Lightening(screen). Layer the flames on top of each other to create a more obvious fire.

STEP 17. Create a new layer and paint an orange tint on the model's skin to create a bright light coming from the fire. Next, set the blending mode for this layer to Overlap(Overlay).

STEP 18. Add fire shards using the brush I created for you (download). Simply select an orange shade and brush around the flames. If you have created too many sparks (fiery fragments), then simply apply a layer mask and on the layer mask, using a brush, hide the excess.

STEP 19. Add more contrast with an adjustment layer Curves(curves).

STEP 20. In this step we will add a few more adjustment layers to make our composition fit together more harmoniously. First of all, let's go Adjustment Layers - Color Balance(Adjustment Layers -Color Balance), apply an adjustment layer twice. Apply the settings as in the screenshots below.

    Adjustment Layer Levels(Levels).

Layers - New Adjustment Layer - Gradient Map(Layers > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map). Opacity(opacity) layer 40%.

STEP 21. Create a new layer, select a tool Brush(brush tool). Create shadows in the corners of the image. If it's too dark, reduce it Opacity(opacity) of the layer.

STEP 22. Let's go Filter - Blur - Radial Blur(Filter > Blur > Radial Blur) and apply the settings as in the screenshot below. We use this filter on the edges.

STEP 24. This step is optional. Add texture to the girl's face to make it look darker.
