Hello to all experienced and beginning craftswomen! At your request, I will try to make a description of the overalls for a newborn baby. In the photo the doll is 63-65 cm tall.
I’ll say right away that I knitted my first jumpsuit myself quite recently - I knitted it by trial and error, because there was no description and I had to borrow something from other craftsmen, think of something myself... I was inspired by this post. I would like to immediately thank those whose I used the work to create my overalls - without your help the work would not have been so successful.
So let's get started...
For the work I used threads made in China. I don’t know the name, composition, or footage - here is the appearance and labels. In my opinion, this is acrylic with wool (the footage is about the same as Alize Lana Gold)
There are two ways to start knitting a jumpsuit - then choose whichever is more convenient for you.
The first way is to start with the hood.
We cast on 88 loops on the knitting needles and knit with any 2-3cm elastic band, then without any additions we move on to the main pattern (for me it is alternating 5 front rows and 1 purl row). We knit with a straight fabric of about 10 cm (I count the side edges, there should be 25 loops - this is the depth of the hood), then we divide the loops into 3 parts - 30-28-30 and then we knit according to the sock heel principle, i.e. we knit only the middle ones loops. We knit the 28th loop together with the next one together with the front one, unfold the knitting and again knit only the middle loops, knit the 28th together with the next one together with the purl one (on the wrong side!), etc. In this way we knit until the knitting needles Only the middle loops will remain. Then we lift 25 loops from the edge loops on each side. In total, you have 78 loops on your knitting needles (25 on the sides and 28 in the middle). Next, we knit several rows with a double elastic band and move on to knitting the overalls themselves.
We knit the overalls with raglan on top without seams. We have 78 loops on our knitting needles. We divide them in this way - 1 edge - 10p shelf - 4p raglan line - 9p sleeve - 4p raglan line - 22p back - 4p raglan line - 9p sleeve - 4p raglan line - 10p shelf - 1 edge.
I knit a raglan line like this: from the first loop I knit 3 loops (knit, yarn over, knit), then 2 knit loops and from the 4th loop I also knit 3 loops. I knit the purl row according to the pattern, I knit the loops of the raglan line with purl loops. Attention! We knit the next row without increasing with facial loops! Next, knitting is repeated. You, of course, can knit raglan increases in the way that is most familiar to you.
We knit until the width of the back reaches approximately 58-60 loops, the sleeves respectively - 45-47 loops. Next, we leave the loops of the sleeves on auxiliary knitting needles, and we connect the loops of the fronts and the back and knit them together until the end of the front. At this point I add 10 stitches and join the knitting into a circle. Next I knit on circular needles in the round. I use the principle of knitting panties that is shown in this MK. Since everything is described there in some detail, I will not dwell on it. I’ll just note that before knitting the elastic, I make a decrease - my elastic has 40 loops.
I knit the sleeves on 5 needles (I don’t use circular ones, because there aren’t many loops and it’s more convenient for me that way). I decrease the stitches evenly until there are 36 stitches left on the knitting needles and knit the cuffs.
All that remains is to knit the strap for the loops and buttons. From the edges we lift the loops in this way - from one loop 2, from the second loop 2, from the third 1 loop, etc. It is by lifting the loops in this way that I get a bar that does not fold or pull. I got a bar of 75 loops on each side. Don't forget to make holes for buttons on one side. We sew the strips at the bottom.

Now I’ll explain a little about the principle of knitting using the second method.
The second method is knitting from the neck.
We knit the overalls as written in the first method, only starting from the neck loops. And we tie the hood to the finished overalls. I used this tutorial for knitting a hood

How to choose yarn and knitting method
When it comes to children's things, you can't skimp! A knitted item will turn out cheaper than a store-bought one, so it’s better to choose yarn of excellent quality. For newborns, cotton or soft wool threads are suitable; a small acrylic content is allowed. The main thing is to check when purchasing that the yarn is pleasant to the touch and does not prick.
The color scheme can be absolutely any, the one that is pleasant to mommy, but it is better to leave too bright acidic colors on the store shelf. If low-quality dyes were used, the product may cause allergies in the baby and the work will go down the drain.
A lot depends on the knitting method and the chosen pattern. The same model can be knitted in different ways, and the finished items will be completely different from each other. In addition, if you choose an openwork knit, then such a product will look great in the summer, and a tight-knit jumpsuit will warm the baby in the winter and in mid-season weather.
Crochet overalls for newborns
The model is convenient because the clasp runs along the entire length from the throat to the heels, making it very easy to dress and undress even a newborn baby who cannot yet hold his head up. And the hood is convenient because you don’t need to put several hats on your baby.
Warm overalls with a hood are good for cool weather
To work you will need:
- Soft yarn “grass” – 200 g. You can use thread that was originally dyed in different colors. So, the finished item will be bright and not boring.
- Bouclé yarn in a contrasting shade for edging – 50 g.
- Small buttons – 14 pcs.
- Crochet hook No. 3.5.
Note: If a different yarn is used, then the hook must be selected individually, focusing on the knitting density - 16 loops in length per 10 cm of knitted fabric.

Knitted jumpsuit
If crocheting is not too attractive, then you can try knitting a beautiful baby onesie. You don't need a pattern for this model.
A universal and easy-to-use model suitable for babies of any gender
To work you will need:
- Blue threads (AlizeBabySofty) – 2 skeins or 100 g.
- White thread (AlizeBabySofty) – 1 skein (50 g).
- White threads (AlizeBabyWool) for tying – about 20 g.
- Knitting needles. It is better to take the knitting needles on a fishing line - this will make the work much easier.
- Buttons for fastening – 5 pcs.
Progress:
- Knitting starts from the bottom of the trouser legs. To do this, you need to cast on 40 loops with an elastic band (2x2) and knit 10 rows.
- After this, you need to insert the blue thread into the knitting and continue knitting the trouser legs, making 8 additional loops in the first row.
- Next, you need to knit the leg, making even increases to reach 56 loops at the very top (the total height of the leg is 48 rows).
- Next you need to knit the second leg in the same way as the first.
- Next, you need to turn all the knitting over so that the work proceeds as a single fabric.
- Now you need to make a shelf for the fastener. You need to cast on 8 additional stitches to the base and knit them in stockinette stitch.
- Now you need to break the product into three main parts: 2 front shelves (28 loops each + 8 additional strap loops on the right shelf) and a back (65 loops).
- Now you need to knit the sleeves separately. First you need to cast on 30 loops with an elastic band (2x2) and knit 10 rows.
- Then you can take another yarn or continue knitting with the same one, adding 6 loops.
- Next, a sleeve 22 cm long is knitted. The knitting is in stockinette stitch.
- You need to knit the second sleeve in the same way.
- Now you can sew all the parts. It is better to do this with the same yarn that was used for knitting, then the seams will be invisible.
- You can add a hood to the item. To do this, you need to cast on 88 stitches and knit them with a double hollow elastic band. This is done so that later you can insert a tie cord into the hood.
- Next, the hood is knitted with white threads in 22 rows.
- After this, the workpiece must be divided into three equal parts (25 loops each) and continue knitting the middle part of the hood, grabbing the outer loops from the side halves.
- You need to knit this way until the loops on the adjacent halves of the hood run out. The finished product is designed for a child 2-4 months old (approximate size 62-68)

Cast on loops according to dimensions:
- 1–44 loops;
- 2–48 loops;
- 3–56 loops.
Raise the 1x1 elastic band up by 2 cm. While working, add: 1–1 loops, 2–3 loops, 3–1 loops. Raise the work with stockinette stitch: 1–15 cm, 2–17 cm, 3–19 cm. Mark the middle loop of the work with a marker (bright thread). On both sides, cast on 4 loops for step bevels. Perform the same steps for the second leg.
Gather the two parts of the trousers on the same circular knitting needles, and continue knitting, picking up additional stitches to get: 1-136, 2-148, 3-160. In stockinette stitch, raise 3 cm and bind off 4 stitches on both sides for the front placket. Raise until the work reaches: 1–32 cm, 2–34 cm, 3–36 cm from the elastic on the legs.
Now the work should be divided, focusing on the previously set mark. Knit first: 1–31 loops, 2–34 loops, 3–37 loops. Knit the back with another thread: 1–70 loops, 2–76 loops, 3–82 loops. The second front is also knitted separately: 1–31 loops, 2–34 loops, 3–37 loops.
Next, knit the back and front separately. On the back for sleeves on both sides, add in the front rows: 1 time for 1 loop, 3 times for 2 loops and 1 time for 3 loops. Raise the sleeve by: 1–8 cm, 2–10 cm, 3–12 cm. Close all loops.
The loops for the sleeves on the shelves are made in the same way as on the back. Raise the knitting by: 1–38.5 cm, 2–42.5 cm, 3–46.5 cm. Close the loops according to the following pattern: 1 time 5 loops, after, in each front row 1 time 3 loops, 1 time 2 loops and 2 times 1 loop. After knitting another 4 cm, bind off all the loops.
Using a crochet hook or knitting needles, pick up the loops and knit the strips. At the same time, make 7 holes-loops for buttons. Tie around the neckline and, if desired, the edges of the sleeves. Sew the sleeves and legs.

We suggest connecting simple crochet jumpsuit. It knits very easily and looks great. We knit for a child 6–9 months old. To work you need yarn and hook number 3.
The overalls are knitted with a double crochet, and knitting begins from the back. Cast on 44 chain stitches and raise 21 rows. Without looking up from your work, cast on 91 chain stitches and close the braid on the opposite side of the knitted back from the beginning of the cast-on. 
Now we knit 6 rows with an elastic band. The elastic consists of 2 double crochets and 1 double crochet. Next, we knit 20 rows in a circle with a regular double crochet. 
Determine the middle, focusing on the knitted back, and knit the gusset. To do this we do the following:
- 1 r: knit 26 double crochets, make two double crochets in one loop, then 66 double crochets, again two from one loop, and 40 double crochets to the end of the row.
- 2 r: knit 27 double crochets, make two double crochets in one loop and so on two loops in a row, then 67 double crochets, again two double crochets from one loop (two loops in a row) and 40 double crochets to the end of the row.
- 3 r: knit 28 double crochets, make two double crochets in one loop and so on two loops in a row, then 69 double crochets, again two double crochets from one loop, two loops in a row and 41 double crochets to the end of the row.
- 4 r: knit 29 double crochets, make two double crochets in one loop and so on two loops in a row, then 71 double crochets, again two double crochets from one loop, two loops in a row and 42 double crochets to the end of the row.
Now let's do the left pant leg. Knit 31 double crochets, 4 chain stitches, 44 double crochets. The air loops should start from the gusset. Next, knit 30 rows in a circle. Reduce the next row by 39 stitches, and knit 5 rows with an elastic band: 1 double crochet, 1 double crochet. Knit the second leg in the same way. 
Now in the middle of the front, select 39 loops and knit them with a double crochet for 13 rows. In row 14, make holes for buttons. Work two more rows of double crochets on top. On the back, make straps of 12 double crochets, raise by 14 rows. 
Sew on the buttons and the jumpsuit is ready. And if you change the yarn and decor, you will get a new look every time! 
Overalls knitted with raglan on top: description, diagrams
For knitting you need to prepare:
- 250 g of yarn (200 g main color, 50 g for elastic bands);
- circular knitting needles No. 3;
- markers.
Work process:
Since the overalls are knitted from top to bottom, as the baby grows, the mother will be able to undo the sleeves and panties, knitting a few centimeters at a time.

Let's get started:
The work will be done from the bottom up. For panties, cast on 40 stitches, knit 10 rows with a 2x2 elastic band. Use blue thread to knit a row of knit stitches, evenly adding 8 stitches. Raise 48 rows, evenly adding 8 stitches along the entire length. It turns out two trouser legs. 
Combine the trouser legs and knit 3 cm. Next, cast on 8 loops on one side for the placket, which is knitted in stockinette stitch. As you knit, make holes for the loops in the placket. 
Raising the work 14 cm from the legs, make slits for the handles. To do this, set the knitting aside into three parts:
- two shelves of 28 loops each,
- back of 65 loops.
Raise them separately to a height of 12 cm. Finish knitting. 
Now we knit the sleeves. Cast on 30 stitches and raise 10 rows using a 2x2 rib. Insert white yarn, knit a front row, adding 6 loops. Raise the knitting by 22 cm, gradually increasing it by 8 loops. Finish work. Make the second sleeve in the same way. 
For the hood, cast on 88 stitches. Knit them with a hollow elastic band for 12 rows. At the end of the work you will need to insert a tie into it. Now the blue yarn is introduced. Use it to raise the work by 4 rows, while decreasing 8 loops. Insert white yarn and knit 22 rows. 
Divide the loops by 25, and according to the principle of knitting the heel to the toe (the inner loops are knitted, and the side loops are closed together with the outermost central one in each row), knit until all the side loops are completed. Close the central loops. 
Sew all parts of the overalls, sew on the hood. Sew buttons and insert a tie.

We knit a winter suit from wool yarn. You will need only 150 g of it. You also need to prepare buttons and arm yourself with knitting needles No. 3. Don't forget to make a pattern, this makes the knitting process much easier.
Knitting starts with panties. Cast on 56 loops and knit 1.5 cm with an English elastic band. Add 1 loop and perform the next 10 cm with the main pattern. If the pant leg is right-handed, add one loop to the left. Subsequently, every third row is increased by one loop. This needs to be done twice. After 11.5 cm, the canvas should be put aside. Start knitting the left leg. Perform all actions step by step in a mirror type, guided by the proposed description.
The basic pattern consists of simple knit and purl stitches. The diagram is attached in the photo.
Combine the stitches of the back half of the legs and begin knitting the back of the overalls. At the very beginning, decrease two loops from both edges. Then cut by 1 stitch six more times every other row. When the canvas reaches 39 cm, start making bevels for the shoulders. Cast off 5 loops on each side. Then cut through a row of 5, 4, 5 and 6 buttonholes. Close the rest when the length of the canvas reaches 40.5 cm.
Similar to the back, the front halves are knitted from the panties. Add three eyelets between the legs. The next 18 cm should be knitted according to the pattern. Now you can start forming the fastener. Set aside 21 loops in the middle. Knit the rest separately, making bevels as on the back. We knit the central loops to the end and close.
Work on the sleeves starts from the bottom. Knit 1.5 cm with an elastic band. In every 10th row, add one stitch three times. Then cast on three stitches on every 8th row.
When all the components are ready, start assembling. It starts with the sleeves. Then the legs are connected along the crotch seam. After this, loops are picked up on the front side shelf and a button placket is knitted. Close the knitting and secure the threads. Then sew on the buttons. This completes the work. The knitted baby onesie just needs to be washed and ironed.

The front panels are also knitted together with the trouser legs. There is no need to combine them. The left part is made symmetrically. The bar should be attached to the right one.
For the sleeves, cast on 45 stitches. At a height of 14 cm, start decreasing. After a row, cut two loops 10 times. Close the rest. Raise the neckline along the edge and tie with an elastic band. Sew buttons and assemble the product.

How to knit overalls for a newborn? Selecting threads and style
The pattern for the overalls can be anything, because the patterns look equally beautiful when using different types of yarn. So don't limit yourself to this. We knit overalls on knitting needles for newborn babies from 0 to 3 months
To knit the overalls shown in the figure below, you will need one hundred and twenty grams of fine yarn, consisting of 80 percent wool and 20 percent acrylic. Pink yarn. Select five buttons and knitting needles number two.

The back of the overalls is knitted this way: cast on twenty-nine stitches for each leg and knit two centimeters with a 1x1 elastic band. Continue knitting the pattern according to the pattern, adding one loop five times in every second row, along the inner edge. To combine the loops of both trouser legs, you need to step back five centimeters in height. Add six more loops between the loops, so that you get a total of 74 loops.
For armholes, decrease two loops on both sides in every fifth row ten times, doing this at a height of twenty centimeters from the beginning of the step bevel. At a final height of 34 centimeters, knit 34 loops for the neck. For the right front part, knit the pant leg in the same way as the back one. In order to make a fastener bar on the right side, you need to cast on five loops at a height of five centimeters. Knit these five loops with a pearl pattern, and continue straight, performing the remaining loops with the same pattern.
As on the back piece, knit the armhole along the side seam. The height for this should be 25 centimeters. For the neck, cast on nineteen stitches at the total height of the product, which, as was written earlier, is 34 centimeters. The left front part of the overalls should be knitted symmetrically to the right front part. In order to knit the sleeves, you need to cast on forty-five loops and knit two centimeters with a 1x1 elastic band. In the last row, add four more stitches to make the total number forty-nine. Continue knitting the pattern according to the pattern.
From the beginning of knitting, the sleeves are 14 centimeters high, decrease two loops on both sides in every second row ten times, and close all the remaining nine loops. This is necessary to roll back the sleeve. The total length of the entire sleeve is about 21 centimeters. To assemble the entire product, you need to complete all side seams and all sleeve seams. Then sew the sleeves into the armholes. To finish the neckline, you need to lift a loop along its edge and tie one and a half centimeters with a 1x1 elastic band. Make the first and last five loops with a pearl pattern, and close the loops according to the above pattern.
Place the bottom edge of the right fastener bar over the left one and perform the step step. On the right placket, make five holes for buttons, which are sewn with one loop. Make the first hole about one centimeter from the top edge, the last – two centimeters from the bottom. Well, the rest can be distributed evenly. And feel free to sew on buttons. The finished knitted overalls for a newborn need to be slightly moistened and allowed to dry completely.
