Why do short young men like tall girls? Why are girls, in turn, not always comfortable with such companions? Woman.ru looked for answers to these questions together with our regular experts, sexologist Evgeny Kulgavchuk and women's psychologist Yulia Stolyarova.
What kind of men like to turn up their noses?
Not all representatives of the stronger half of humanity have a complex if they have to lift their heads to look into the eyes of their companion. Some even enjoy this fact. “Men who prefer women taller than themselves can be divided into three groups,” says sexologist Evgeniy Kulgavchuk. “They are drawn to the tall, or rather to the tall, for various reasons.”

The first group of men perceives taller women as mothers. Next to such a beloved, they feel calmer and more protected. This is a kind of delay, “stuck” in psychosexual development, a manifestation of the Oedipus complex. However, with mutual adaptation, such a pair of a taller woman and a short man will be completely harmonious and organic.

In the third group, attraction to tall women is consolidated at the stages of psychosexual development by imprinting. Imprinting is literally “imprinting,” in sexology associated with sexual arousal or other positive emotions. Imprinting can be associated, for example, with individual characteristics - big breasts, long hair, height, smell, etc. In the future, it can influence the choice of sexual partners in mature age, forming individual preferences. For representatives of this group, height is a fetish, such as, for example, big breasts or long hair. These men may have normal self-esteem and simply have appropriate preferences.
Relationships in couples in each group can be adapted or cause discomfort for the woman, depending on a variety of circumstances.
“Mom” can revel in her role, be happy, feel needed, or, conversely, constantly be irritated by the immaturity of her man-son and even despise him. A “trophy woman” can suffer when a man disrespects her, and when he admires her, she can bask in attention and love.
An “imprint woman” can be happy if a short man is also her fetish. For example, if she is sure that all men vertically challenged- sexy giants. Or she may constantly have a complex about her short companion, thinking that everyone around her is laughing at her. In this case, the accumulated everyday problems are enough to separate - the “last straw” mechanism will work.
Why are women against it?
“Most of the fair sex are not particularly eager to date a man shorter than themselves. Firstly, in our minds there is still a stereotype that tall means strong. A girl is subconsciously confident that with a tall man she will feel protected, although practice shows that height is not always a sign of masculinity, and strength, determination, intelligence and charm do not depend on height,” Yulia Stolyarova is sure. But if you like a young man who is shorter than you, there is a chance that he will decide to assert himself at your expense.
How to avoid becoming a victim of a Napoleon man? “Everything is simple here: if a man is fulfilled in society - he has a decent job, he can provide for himself and his family, and at the same time he is respected by colleagues and partners - he most likely has no complexes. But if a man feels uncomfortable and dissatisfied with his position, then he will try to compensate for his failures where possible. And if he is unlucky in his career, but in his environment there is a tall girl, then he will most likely want her to be his. And believe me, love will have a very indirect relationship with this desire,” the expert warns us.
Despite the presence of celebrity couples with height differences, there is no need to talk about global changes and a revolution in public consciousness yet. The new archetype has not yet been developed.
“Every girl is waiting for her Prince Charming, but in not a single fairy tale book or cartoon will you see a future princess who is taller than her chosen one. This stereotype will be broken only in one case - when princesses start killing dragons themselves,” Stolyarova is sure.
At first glance, it may seem that this cannot happen, because it can never happen, but... you should not make hasty conclusions. Don't believe me? But in the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, which, in fact, became a source of inspiration for the Disney studio, princesses are supposed to sit in a tower and wait for their lover without taking active action. However, in cartoons, the Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and Ariel are endowed with frankly fighting qualities, so we won’t swear by them. Perhaps a hundred years from now, when all people become even taller and slimmer, couples in which the man is shorter will be the standard.
