• Sun skirt: detailed master class

    03.08.2019

    Hello, welcome to the Sewing Encyclopedia website. Today I want to tell you how much fabric you need for a half-sun, sun, 1/4-sun, and double and triple-sun skirt. It is not difficult to build and sew such skirts; the problem arises when it is necessary to calculate the amount of fabric for one or another model. Let's figure this out today.

    Calculation of fabric for a sun skirt

    Seamless

    This model is sewn without a seam, so for work you need to take a square. The standard fabric width is 140-150 cm, which means we take the same length. IN in this case the width of the fabric will dictate the length of the skirt, not the other way around. Here's what it looks like in practice.

    The length of the skirt will be equal to 1/2 the width of the fabric minus the first radius, which is calculated by the formula:

    R1 = (From / 6.28)

    And minus seam allowances.

    From = 70 cm, R1 = 70 /6.28 = 11 cm,

    140 cm / 2 = 70 cm, 70 cm - 11 cm = 59 cm, 59 cm - 4 cm = 55 cm

    4 cm is seam allowance.

    So, with a fabric width of 140 cm and a waist circumference of 70 cm, you can sew a seamless skirt with a length of only 55 cm.

    Please note that the fabric is folded in four when cutting.

    With two seams

    In this case, we will calculate the fabric as for 2 half-sun skirts. We decide on the length and circumference of the waist. We calculate the notch using the formula given in the “Without seam” section.

    Length - 80 cm, From - 65 cm

    R1 - 65 cm /6.28 = 10 cm

    Now we choose the fabric. If it is with a print or some kind of floral pattern, then this will oblige you to cut the details in one direction, regardless of the length of the skirt.

    In this case, the fabric calculation will be as follows:

    The length of the product multiplied by 4, plus 4 notch radii and 4 cm for allowances.

    (80 cm x 4) + (10 cm x 4) + 4 cm = 320 cm + 40 cm + 4 cm = 364 cm

    If the drawing allows you to make a mirror layout, then the calculation will be slightly different.

    We multiply the desired length by 3-3.7, the longer it is, the higher the coefficient we take.

    • 80 cm x 3 = 240 cm
    • 100 cm x 3.5 = 350 cm - floor-length skirt

    To the resulting figure we add four radii and four centimeters for allowances.

    • 240 + (10 x 4) + 4 = 284 cm
    • 350 + (10 x 4) + 4 = 394 cm

    For girl

    To calculate the fabric for sewing a skirt for a girl, we determine the length and circumference of the waist.

    Example: Length - 40 cm, From - 57 cm, R1 = 9 cm

    We count: two skirt lengths plus two R1 and 2 centimeters for allowances.

    (40 x 2) + 18 + 2 = 100 cm

    This is a fabric calculation for a width of 150 cm and is also suitable for adults if the length of the product does not exceed 60 cm.

    How much fabric do you need for a semi-sun skirt?

    The name half-sun speaks for itself - it is half the sun, which means you will need half as much fabric. In general terms, these are two skirt lengths plus two radii and 4-5 cm allowances. The radius for a half-sun is calculated using a different formula.

    R1 = (From / 3.14)

    From = 70 cm

    R1 = 70 /3.14 = 22 cm

    Let's calculate the fabric for the half sun:

    • 40 cm long: (40 cm x 2) + (22 cm x 2) + 4 cm = 128 cm;
    • 50 cm long: (50 cm x 2) + (22 cm x 2) + 4 cm = 148 cm;
    • 60 cm long: (60 cm x 2) + (22 cm x 2) + 4 cm = 168 cm;
    • 70 cm long: (70 cm x 2) + (22 cm x 2) + 4 cm = 188 cm.

    So it is necessary to calculate either long semi-sun skirts, for example, more than 60 cm long, or for large sizes, where the waist has a significant girth, or for materials with a pattern, when the fabric cannot be laid out in a checkerboard pattern, but only in one line. The half-sun will be cut out with two side seams and with the material fully unfolded. Honestly, this is not the most economical option for one skirt. If it is cut out for a dress, then this is quite acceptable.

    In all other cases, the consumption can be reduced, since the length, size and fabric allow you to lay out the patterns so that you can go 1.3-1.5 times the length and radius. The product will also have two seams.

    (60+22) x 1.3 = 107 + 4 = 111 cm, where 4 cm is seam allowance

    Be sure to take into account the pattern on the material!

    Now let’s calculate the material consumption for a half-sun skirt with one seam. This option is suitable for small short skirts and plain fabric that is folded in half.

    (70 +22) x 2 = 184 + 2 = 186 cm, where 2 cm is allowance

    Fabric consumption for a 1/4 sun or bell skirt

    This skirt needs more less fabric than half sun.

    Again we calculate the radius of the notch using the following formula:

    R1 = From / 1.57

    R1 = 64 / 1.57 = 41 cm

    Be sure to check that the resulting figure is no less than your hip circumference.

    The fabric consumption will be equal to the length of the product plus the notch and 2 centimeters for seams.

    Skirt length: 60 cm, need to buy: 60 + 41 +2 = 103 cm

    How to calculate the amount of fabric for a double sun skirt

    R1 = (From / 2) / 6.28

    From - 60 cm, R1 = 60 / 2 / 6.28 = 4.7

    Product length - 55 cm

    For a double sun you need two sun skirts with a recess radius of 5 cm each. For one half you will need fabric:

    Two lengths plus two radii and 2 - 3 centimeters for seams:

    (55 x 2) + (4.7 x 2) + 3 =122 cm - one half,

    122 cm x 2 = 244 cm - into two halves.

    When cutting, the material is folded in half. The skirt is more than 60 cm and floor-length and is made from four half-sun skirts.

    How much fabric is needed for a triple sun skirt?

    The calculation is similar to the previous one, the only difference is that the waist circumference is divided by three.

    R1 = (From / 3) / 6.28

    From - 60 cm, R1 = 60 / 3 / 6.28 = 3.2

    Product length - 55 cm

    You will need to cut out three suns. We count by one part:

    Two lengths plus two radii and 2-3 centimeters for allowances.

    (55 x 2) + (3.2 x 2) + 3 = 119.4 cm - one part,

    119.4 x 3 = 358.2 cm - into 3 parts.

    Well, I think I answered the question of how much fabric is needed for a sun skirt and all its derivatives. Good luck!

    Good afternoon, reader. Today we will talk about the sun and half-sun skirts, find out how many options they have and, of course, learn how to cut and sew them, even if you are a novice craftswoman.

    What is a sun skirt

    The cut of the skirt named after the luminary is known to everyone, even schoolchildren. This is the name of skirts that have the shape of a circle (Sun) when unfolded.

    The “Half-sun” skirt, accordingly, is sewn from a semicircle, everything is simple.

    Pros and cons of sun skirts

    The only disadvantage I see of skirts with wide edges is that they are problematic to wear in windy weather.

    Such skirts have much more advantages. This:

    • comfortable to wear,
    • elegance,
    • all-season,
    • versatility - can be worn equally well both for serious events and for summer walks,
    • very easy to sew

    For confidence, a novice craftswoman can first make a pattern for a sun skirt and then transfer the details onto the fabric. But with even a minimum of experience, you can cut out details directly on the fabric.

    Sun skirt pattern

    This is what the finished sun skirt pattern should look like - a circle with a diameter of about one and a half meters with a hole in the middle. But, of course, we won’t do that, but will follow the optimal path).

    First, let's take measurements (you can read more about this)

    We only need:

    OT - Waist circumference (for example, 72 cm),

    DU - Skirt length (for example, 70 cm).

    Using the waist circumference measurement, we calculate the radius of the circle (R in the diagram on the left). According to the formula for the dependence of the circumference on the radius, it is equal to the OT measure divided by 6 (in our case, 12 cm).

    Let's try to sew a bright summer skirt. For example, from this fabric:

    Let's cut our skirt directly onto the fabric. This is a suit fabric 140 cm wide, 150 cm long, composition: cotton - 95%, viscose - 5%.

    Attention: The method described below is suitable if the width of the fabric is sufficient for the desired length of the product. How to check - add up the radius and length of the skirt. If the result is no more than the width of the fabric divided by 2, then you can cut it from a single piece of fabric, in which case the skirt will have no side seams.

    If the width of the fabric is, for example, 80 cm, then seams cannot be avoided and the cutting option will be different. But more on that later. Now we will cut out a seamless skirt according to the pattern below:

    Open your circle skirts

    Before cutting, we prepare the fabric: steam it and iron it.

    Then fold it twice to get a rectangle. From the top of the rectangle, draw a circle with chalk (more precisely, an arc) with a radius equal to the measurement Waist Circumference (WC), divided by 6, that is, 12 cm. This arc is the waist line of our skirt.

    From the waist line we set aside segments equal to the Skirt Length measurement. We draw the second arc - the Bottom Line:

    We fix the contours with pins so that the fabric does not move apart. Cut out:

    Here's what happened:

    From the remaining fabric, cut out a belt on the bias. This cutting will provide a better fit to the figure, in contrast to cutting along the longitudinal (longitudinal) thread. In our case, the belt will consist of four parts 45 cm long and 7 cm high:

    Cut out:

    On this we could end the cutting and our conversation. But I wanted to make a side slit and sew a pocket into it. Make a pocket pattern on a piece of paper. Mark the place where the pocket will be sewn in, leave enough free space so that it fits into the pocket freely:

    Fold a piece of fabric in half, lay out the pocket pattern on it, and trace the outline with chalk.

    The cut pocket looks like this:

    The result of our work:

    skirt panel - 1 piece,

    belt - 4 parts,

    pocket - 1 piece.

    You can sew!)

    If you like a fabric with a width of 80 cm (these are mostly natural cotton fabrics), it is more convenient to cut out the sun skirt according to the diagram below. In this case, fabric consumption almost doubles.

    The sun skirt suits almost everyone, regardless of age and stature. The main thing is to choose the length and “span” of the skirt. If you have a curvy waist, the extension may start lower, at the hip line. And decorate the top with an adjacent yoke. For the cold season, you can sew a skirt not only from thicker warm fabric, but also a two-layer one - this will make the skirt warmer and give the new item a zest!

    By the way, I will definitely post a photo of the finished sun skirt as soon as I sew it.

    In the meantime, goodbye!

    Every woman wants to have a unique item in her closet so that no one else has one. Many people sew their own clothes, especially needlewomen who sew skirts and dresses. Sewing them does not take much time if the craftswoman has at least minimal experience in this matter. Circle skirts are very popular among girls. Buying such a thing in a store is quite expensive, but if you sew it yourself, you can save some money. In order to start sewing, you should first determine what fabric to make the circle skirt from? WITH various types skirt materials and their properties, we will help you understand in this article.

    Main types of skirt materials

    Among the most popular types of textiles, experts highlight the following:

    • Cotton - thick cotton material is used for sewing skirts. If you want to sew a fluffy, tight skirt, this fabric is perfect.

    Important! Cotton fabric is an excellent option for summer models, as it is breathable and pleasant to the touch.

    • Linen - used to create summer and demi-season items. It is considered a very noble material, as it cools in hot weather, and on the contrary, warms in cold weather. In addition, it perfectly allows air and moisture to pass through.
    • Velvet - used to create festive outfits. The surface of the velvet fabric has a fine pile that shimmers beautifully in the sun.
    • Silk - this material is often used to make circle skirts and half-circle skirts, since it is very easy to sew a light, beautiful product from it. In addition, silk cools in hot weather.
    • Wool - only sewn from this material winter clothes. Wool is a very popular and beautiful material. Its main advantages are warmth and comfort.
    • Stretch is a mixture of synthetic materials. Quite often used for sewing skirts and tops. Stretch contains elastic materials such as lycra and elastane.
    • Satin is a smooth and shiny fabric, used for sewing formal and everyday items. It has a very beautiful, aesthetic appearance, so it is very popular.
    • Jacquard - this fabric is included in the group of “elite” fabrics. Used when sewing holiday patterns. In terms of cost, it is quite expensive, so if you decide to use it, you should calculate as clearly as possible how much material will be needed to create a skirt.
    • Corduroy - products made from this fabric look very sophisticated and simple at the same time. The material fits the figure well and adds a touch of chic to the entire look.

    Having familiarized yourself with the above range of fabrics, you can easily answer the question: what fabric is better to sew a circle skirt from? Consider also own preferences and desires when purchasing fabric.

    Characteristics and advantages of skirt materials

    Textiles used for sewing skirts must:

    • Be resistant to fading and abrasion.
    • Have characteristics such as wear resistance and breathability.

    However, not all types of matter fully possess these characteristics. All positive properties and characteristics depend on the selected type of textile. If you want to get a durable and high-quality product as a result, experts recommend purchasing natural textiles. For example, for summer models, choose cotton or linen textiles, as they are stretch-resistant and breathable.

    Important! Long, floor-length skirts made from thin transparent fabric are supplemented with lining (often above the knee). Such models are not very comfortable to wear in the summer, as they stick to the body and do not allow air to pass through at all, but on the contrary, they create a steam effect.

    How to choose the right textiles, depending on the style?

    You should choose one or another type of textile, depending on the style of the future product:

    • If you are thinking about what fabric to make a circle or half-circle skirt from, it is recommended to purchase such types of fabric as chiffon, cambric and knitwear. They are quite light, so the finished product will look slightly fluffy.
    • For “pencil” models, corduroy, cotton and linen are suitable, as they are quite dense and do not lose their shape.

    Important! Experienced seamstresses sometimes combine textiles with leather when sewing such models.

    • To sew “tulip” products, it is recommended to use viscose, satin and cotton with impurities. These types of fabric can create soft folds.
    • Skirt with pleats - its tailoring is characterized by the use of synthetic textiles.
    • In order to sew a narrow skirt, it is better to purchase soft and elastic fabric of medium density. Usually knitwear or lace is used.
    • Tutu skirt. This model can be sewn using tulle or chiffon.

    Having become familiar with the types of styles, the range of textile types for circle skirts is greatly narrowed. If you doubt your knowledge and abilities, you can consult a specialist. He will be able to tell you which fabric is best to choose for a circle skirt.

    What textiles are best suited for sewing circle and half-circle skirts?

    For summer model“sun” is perfect for light, flowing textiles - satin or silk. In the cold season, it is advisable to use thicker textiles. It can be either natural or a mixture.

    Important! The most convenient option is to use a plain fabric. However, no one prohibits the use of fabric with prints and designs. The main thing is that the pattern is symmetrical, be it a checkered pattern, stripes or polka dots. Canvas with large patterns It is not recommended to use it, as there is a lot of hassle with it.

    Only an experienced needlewoman can sew a beautiful circle skirt. The amount of textile used for sewing depends on the length of the future product, that is, the shorter the skirt, the less fabric is required.

    How to care for “sun” and “half-sun” skirts?

    • It is recommended to iron all skirt items from the wrong side. Lush models and those with folds are best ironed with a special steamer in a vertical position.
    • Such products should only be stored on hangers, but not on cabinet shelves.
    • When it comes to washing skirts, it is best to wash them by hand. This is especially true for materials such as jacquard, wool and silk.
    • Synthetic textiles can be washed in washing machine, setting the “gentle” washing mode.

    The circle skirt almost never goes out of trend; only the priorities in length and fashionable materials change. Among current trends next season in women's fashion One of the decisive roles is played by flared models of skirts such as the sun, bell and multi-layered styles. Such models are suitable for both curvy and thin girls. With the help of correctly selected length and textiles, this element of clothing helps to focus attention on the advantages and hide the flaws of the figure. The return of retro style to the catwalks was manifested in high waists, wide skirts and trousers, trapezoidal silhouettes. In this regard, the question of how to sew a circle skirt worries many representatives of the fair sex, regardless of build and age.

    We sew a circle skirt with our own hands

    One of the undoubted advantages of a flared skirt is that it does not require additional elements and decor. Its cut and good fit perfectly emphasize the graceful lines of a woman's figure.

    The pattern of a circle skirt is extremely simple; even inexperienced craftswomen trying their hand at sewing and clothing design will not have any problems with its construction. The drawing of parts must begin with measurements. You will need to measure your waist circumference and the estimated length of the product. Due to the simplicity of the work, you can immediately cut the product along the wrong side of the material without creating a pattern. The radius of the inner circle in the drawing is equal to OT/(2x3.14 (Pi)). For example, with a waist circumference of 75 cm, the calculations look like this - 75/(2x3.14) = 11.94 cm. Using a measuring tape or compass, you need to draw a semicircle with the resulting radius, which will give the waist line. From this line you need to measure a distance equal to the length of the skirt with the addition of seam allowances, 4-6 cm, depending on the type and characteristics of the material.

    If we are sewing a sun skirt with an elastic band, then the internal recess should be increased; instead of the waist circumference, the hip volume should be used in the calculations. In this case, a drawstring is added to the pattern, which is sewn to the belt. Its length is equal to the circumference of the hips + 2cm seam allowance. An elastic band is inserted inside the waistband to create optimal tightness.

    How much fabric do you need for a circle skirt?

    The calculation of the material required for sewing a flared skirt depends on the length finished product and fabric width. If the skirt is short or middle length, then the width of the fabric may be enough to sew a skirt from one or two parts. When creating a long skirt, the fabric consumption increases, because then it will need to be constructed from at least 4 parts. To build a pattern, you just need to fold the above pattern in half.

    What fabric is a circle skirt made from?

    One of the most important criteria when sewing this elegant and feminine piece of clothing is the seasonal factor. Light, airy, openwork and flowing materials are suitable for summer - guipure, , staple, , , , .

    For the cold season, preference should be given to denser fabrics. and - ideal for the off-season, spring and autumn walks. These materials never go out of style and look great on any figure. In winter, a circle skirt can be made from even fabrics - tweed,,.

    A flared skirt perfectly accentuates evening and carnival outfits. For sewing such a detail, shining and iridescent fabrics are offered - crystallon,

    In this article I will tell you how to cut a sun skirt without seams and with two seams. This can be done directly on the fabric, without preliminary construction of patterns.

    How to calculate a sun skirt

    To calculate, you need to take 2 measurements:

    From – waist circumference– using a measuring tape, measure your figure at the level of the waist line (the narrowest part of the figure, or at the level where you will wear the skirt). The tape should run horizontally and fit tightly around the body (not too tight, but not loose either).

    Di – skirt length– measure along the side, applying a measuring tape to the waist line, and lowering the end of the tape down with the beginning of the countdown to the level of the desired length of the skirt.

    To cut out your skirt, you can measure yourself. Just when measuring the length of the skirt, you need to stand straight, not bend over, otherwise the length will not be measured accurately. Therefore, it is better to stand in front of a mirror and see to what level you lower the end of the tape.

    To build a sun skirt, you need to draw 2 circles: the inner one is the waist line, and the outer one is the bottom line.

    We calculate the radius of circles:

    R1 = From: 6.3– radius of the inner circle.

    For example, if From = 80 cm, R1 = 12.7 cm (rounded).

    R2 = R1 + Di– radius of the outer circle

    That is, we simply add the length of the skirt to R1. For example, if Di = 60 cm, and O = 80 cm, R2 = 12.7 + 60 cm = 73 cm (here it is easier to round to a whole number).

    How to design a sun skirt with elastic, without fastener

    About – hip circumference– measure your figure at hip level. The measuring tape runs horizontally along the most protruding points of the buttocks.

    When calculating the internal arc R1, instead of From, we substitute: (Ob + 2...5 cm).

    R1 = (About + 2…5 cm) : 6.3

    How much to add to the hip circumference (from 2 to 5 cm) is chosen at will. If you want the skirt to fit over the hips very loosely, and to have more gathers at the waist, take closer to 5 cm. In skirts for girls, they also take a larger value – closer to 5 cm, so that they can be dressed easily.

    How to cut a sun skirt without seams

    Let me tell you right away that this method is not suitable for everyone. But only for children's clothing, and for women of small stature and size. The skirt turns out to be quite short, and what larger size and the height of the woman, the shorter the skirt will be.

    (Unless you are sewing a sun skirt from fabric with a width of more than 150 cm, for example, from fabric for bed linen, where the width is 220 cm; or from curtain fabric (rare, but there are such fabrics with an environmentally friendly composition, suitable for clothing)) .

    And below I will show with an example why this is so.

    Please note that the skirt will have no seams! Therefore, it is advisable to make it with an elastic band, without a fastener (processing the fastener not in the seam so that it turns out neat is quite difficult, especially for a beginner in sewing).

    So, to cut out a sun skirt without seams, take a square of fabric (width of fabric = length of fabric). And fold it into 4 layers - like a handkerchief.

    The diagram shows the principle of how to fold fabric. After this, we carefully align the fabric, matching the cuts and folds so that the fabric lies flat, without distortions.

    (If initially the square of fabric was not even, the cuts will not be able to align exactly. Align the fabric as it turns out, matching the folds.)

    Then, from the corner of the fabric with folds, as from the center, we measure and draw two circles.

    First, the inner circle with radius R1. This will be the waist line. Then the outer circle with radius R2 is the bottom line.

    Drawing these circles on fabric is usually inconvenient; there are no compasses of this size.

    Therefore, you need to adapt. Someone can hold a crayon on the end of a measuring tape, and hold the desired tape mark on the corner of the fabric (the center of the circle) and draw a line. It is convenient for some to cut a rope of the required length, and also, holding a chalk at the end, draw a circle.

    I usually just make small marks on the fabric around the circumference, at a short distance from each other, and then connect them with a smooth line. It’s more convenient for me, I can do it more accurately. Try it, find your own way to draw these circles more conveniently.

    Then you need to do a check!

    Using a measuring tape, measure the length of the waist line (circumference R1). And multiply the resulting value by 4 (since the fabric is folded into 4 layers). The result should be equal to: (About + 2...5 cm).

    If the circumference is smaller (Ob + 2…5 cm), then you need to increase R1 by a few mm and draw the circle lower. If the circumference turns out to be larger (Ob + 2...5 cm), then you need to reduce R1 by a few mm and draw the circle higher.

    We also make sure to measure and check the length of the new circumference.

    Then we mark the processing allowances along the waist and hem lines. Since this is a sun skirt, we allow small allowances: 1...1.5 cm. (The waist and hem lines are not straight, so large allowances will interfere with processing).

    After marking the allowances, take scissors and carefully cut out the sun skirt. When unfolded, you will get a circle with a “hole” in the middle.

    Let's take an example to see why this method can only cut a fairly short skirt, and it is more suitable for women of small size and height, and girls.

    The maximum (and most common) fabric width is 150 cm. Take a square of fabric: width 150 cm, length 150 cm. Fold in 4 layers, you get a square with side = 75 cm.

    The skirt has no seams, so no fastener - with elastic. Instead of From we use (Ob + 2...5 cm).

    For example, Ob = 104 cm. Then R1 = (Ob + 5 cm): 6.3 = (104 cm + 5 cm): 6.3 = 17.3 cm.

    And the side of the square of folded fabric is 75 cm.

    75 cm - 17.3 cm = 57.7 cm - only 57.7 cm remains for the length of the skirt. And this is without taking into account the hem allowance for the bottom. So the length of the finished skirt will be only 56 cm.

    So you can figure out whether this method is right for you. If your hip circumference is less than 104 cm, the skirt may be slightly longer than 56 cm; and if your hip circumference is more than 104 cm, the skirt will be shorter accordingly. This is for a fabric width of 150 cm. If the fabric width is smaller, then the skirt is shorter.

    Well, if you are making a sun skirt from fabric, for example, for bed linen, the width of which is 220 cm, or curtains, then, of course, the skirt can turn out longer, and with a larger hip circumference.

    How to cut a sun skirt with two seams

    The sun skirt can be cut with two seams. And this way you can do it long skirt to the floor, regardless of height and body size.

    A sun skirt should be cut according to the same principle as a half-sun skirt. Only for the sun skirt you need to cut out two half-sun skirts - two halves of the skirt.

    And therefore, the calculation of the arc radius R1 will be slightly different. Instead of From (waist circumference), we substitute St (half-waist circumference) into the formula:

    R1 = St: 3

    For example, if From = 80 cm, R1 = 40: 3 = 13.3 cm (rounded).

    Thus, we cut out 2 half-circle skirts, as described.

    And when cutting, to save fabric, the skirt panels can be laid out offset:

    You can first make a pattern for the skirt panel on paper to make it easier to lay it out on the fabric, or cut it straight from the fabric. It’s more convenient for anyone to figure it out.

    How to determine how much fabric you need for a sun skirt

    If the sun skirt is without seams, then you need a square of fabric - as much as the width of the fabric, you need to take the same length. For example, if the width of the fabric is 150 cm, then you need to take 150 cm in length. If the width of the fabric is smaller, we take less length of the fabric.

    If the width of the fabric is 150 cm, but the entire width of the fabric is not required for the skirt, for example, for a children's skirt. Let's say the length of the radius of the outer circle R2 = 60 cm. Then we take 130 cm of fabric (60 times 2, + allowances/shrinkage/distortion of fabric 10 cm).

    If the sun skirt has two seams, we calculate the amount of fabric as for 2 half-sun skirts. That is, we multiply R2 by 4, + by allowances of 10...20 cm. Yes, the fabric consumption is significant, especially for a long sun skirt.

    Well, the skirt will be quite voluminous and fluffy. Therefore, you need to choose the appropriate fabric - thin, light in weight, flowing. Otherwise, the skirt may turn out to be too heavy to lift - there is a lot of fabric.

    Fabric consumption can be reduced by staggering the skirt panels, as shown in the diagram above. But in advance it will not be possible to accurately calculate how much fabric can be saved this way. This needs to be seen in practice - make paper patterns of the desired length of the skirt, and lay them out on the floor, taking into account the width of the fabric. And so you can see how much fabric is needed for the entire sun skirt.

    As you can see, cutting out a sun skirt is not at all difficult. There is no need to create any patterns, no complex formulas, or calculations.

    Good luck and beautiful new skirts!
