The counters of flower shops are full of colorful flower pots, the design of which is sometimes simply mesmerizing, but in terms of cost these pots are not at all budget options. And if you have a whole “botanical garden” in your apartment, then shopping for beautiful flower pots You might just go broke. Therefore, it is much more economical and pleasant to decorate the most ordinary plastic pot yourself.
The technique of decoupaging a flower pot, which I will show you in a master class, is very simple, so let’s get to this exciting activity You can involve children.

- We take the most ordinary plastic pot, the cost of which on the market is about $0.8, and thoroughly treat it with fine sandpaper over the entire surface:
After the surface is well sanded and has acquired a rough appearance, we cover it with a one-component craquelure varnish, in a thin, uniform layer. If you do not sand the surface well enough, the varnish will not lay down in an even layer, as shown in the figure below, and you will not get the desired effect. 
- Let the varnish dry for about 10 minutes, and in the meantime, mix the paint yourself: pour a little white paint into a plastic cup (to a height of no more than 1 cm) and add a few drops of light green and beige dye to it, mix. The color should be slightly greenish-yellow.
It is worth noting that we will use all this amount of paint until the end of the work, incl. The project is very economical. - We cover the surface with the varnish applied with paint, trying to touch one place only once, gently, so that the varnish does not move. We leave it to dry and after a while craquelure cracks appear - they will play the role of “birch bark” for us.
As you can see, the paint has floated below, because... the varnish was applied too thickly (my daughter tried really hard!). In general, this is a bad defect, but in our case it’s not a big deal, since the lower part will be painted over anyway. Let the pot dry thoroughly (acrylic dries quickly, 30 minutes to 1 hour), and at this time we paint it at the same time color pallet. - While the paint dries, cut out the hares
We mark their placement on our pot. - We paint the base to look like hares.
Add a little more beige to the paint, and use a piece of parallon to apply the background to the hares. We apply the paint without spreading it, but lightly soaking it with a parallon - this will give an even application and “spraying” along the edges.

We remove the lower layers of the napkin from the bunnies, spread them with glue and carefully glue them, using a brush to help prevent the paper from shrinking.

First, wash the pot well with a brush and detergent and dry it well. To speed up this procedure, you can use a hair dryer, as the author did, or you can simply leave the pot to air dry.
Then use sandpaper to thoroughly sand the pot.
In the same way, we sand the plate that comes with the pot (a tray for collecting water). This procedure is very dusty, so the author advises carrying it out on the street or on the balcony. After this procedure, the surface of the pot and tray should be smooth, the old paint should not bristle or crumble anywhere.
Now you need to rinse the pot from dust and dry it well again.
Step 2.
Then take the acrylic primer and apply it with tangential movements, pressing a piece of foam sponge to the surface of the pot. The layer of soil should not be thick, otherwise it may crack after drying. Now let the soil dry very well.
Now you can apply the main background color. IN in this case the author used three spoons of white paint and a few drops of yellow. You focus on the color scheme that prevails in your interior and also take into account the size of the decorated pot.
It is also necessary to remember that the background color simply must be in harmony with the napkin you choose.
Apply the background color evenly to the pot using a sponge.
If you have a small roller on your household, the author strongly recommends applying paint using it. In this case, the paint layer is thin and applied evenly.
We apply the same paint to the tray to collect water. Since the shape does not allow the use of a roller for high-quality application of paint, we apply the paint with a sponge. In order not to get your hands dirty and to properly paint all hard-to-reach places, the author recommends using a clothespin as an applicator. Dry the painted pieces well.
If you have any left a small amount of collect the paints in a small jar.
Be sure to close the jar with a tight-fitting lid. You may still need paint, but it is very difficult to achieve exactly the same shade when mixing paints again.
Step 3.

Take a thick file and a tray, place the cut-out piece of napkin with the colored side down and pour in a little water.
Using a brush, very carefully distribute the water over the piece of napkin. This way you stretch a piece of napkin on the surface of the file and this will help you avoid creases and folds in the drawing when transferring it to a flower pot.
Then very carefully lift the file and carefully drain the water from it, making sure that a fragment of the napkin remains on the surface of the file.
Transfer the image from the file to the surface of the pot. To do this, apply the file and a fragment of a napkin to the pot and smooth it carefully.
Carefully remove the file so that the motif cut from the napkin remains on the surface of the pot. If necessary, use a brush or hold the motif with your fingers.
Secure the motif with PVA glue and apply the glue on top of the motif with a soft brush. If you get wrinkles, carefully smooth them out with your fingers in the direction from the center to the edge of the picture. Dry the workpiece well.
If wrinkles do appear, carefully, without pressing, sand them with sandpaper.
If the borders of the napkin are very noticeable, take a sponge and the remaining background paint and, with light tangential movements, paint over the resulting transition.
Step 4
Then we mix paints for the border of the future product.
Using a sponge, apply paint to the edges of the flower pot.
We will use the same paint to paint the edges of the water collection tray. Dry the workpieces thoroughly.
Step 5
Now we will cover the pot with acrylic varnish in several layers. It is necessary to thoroughly dry each applied layer of varnish. And don’t forget: the amount of varnish affects the service life; the more layers, the more durable the product ends up being. In this case, the author applied 10 layers of varnish.

Sometimes you really want to change your urban interior to a certain style, for example Provence. Although, it is probably enough to give only light hints so that the direction can only be guessed. For example, decorate a corner in the kitchen with a dried bouquet of lavender or a painted porcelain plate. Or maybe decorate a pot with a delicate pattern of herbs?
This is the flowerpot I created today. And here in front of you is a decoupage of flower pots, a photo with a step-by-step description of it, I am pleased to present to your attention.
Materials and tools.

- Artistic primer Sonnet (white, black)
- Acrylic paints

Preparing flower pots for decoupage.
First, we prepare flowerpots for decoration. It is necessary to get rid of the sticker, we remove it.
I’ll share a little secret that the girls revealed to me at one of the master classes. Using a hairdryer, we heat the sticker and it comes off the pot very easily. And if there is any glue left, the residue can be removed with white spirit.
Sand the entire surface and cover with one layer of white primer.
On the top and bottom edging I want to make scuffs with black paint showing through, so I cover these parts with black primer.
Let everything dry thoroughly.
For decoupage I used this napkin with a Provence pattern.
I'm a napkin fanatic, so I mostly print designs on napkins. And very soon there will be a master class on how to print an image on napkins, stay tuned for the release of articles.
If you don’t have the opportunity to print, ordinary napkins with a design you like are quite suitable. Just don’t forget that they are three-layered and it is necessary to separate the third layer of paint, which we will glue.
We tear out the borders to make it easier to hide them when painting and place them face down on a regular file.
Pour a puddle of water onto a napkin, which will cause it to become saturated with water and stretch.
We need to adjust it a little with our fingers so that the napkin is aligned on the file. We coat the surface with PVA glue and place the file and now a napkin on the surface of the flowerpot.
Using a cloth, gently iron the file so that the napkin is secured and then slowly pull the file out. Be careful, the napkin may reach for the file.
Using a brush and PVA glue, we go over the napkin again.
You may have developed creases, just like I did in this case. This can all be fixed after drying the napkin.
Dry the napkin with a cloth and repeat the same on the other side.
Now that the napkin has already completely dried, we go over the folds with sandpaper No. 500-600, they will disappear and the surface will become smooth, ready for further stages of decoration.
I wanted to add more wear on the sides and painted small areas with black paint.
Painting
Let's get to the fun part - painting. I ended up with a color that matches the tone of the napkin very well. I only added a little black paint to it. This will make it less bright.
We tint our gaps, in this case it turned out to be tintted in three layers and allowed to dry.
You can shade the borders with a sponge or a damp brush.
The top and bottom edging were painted a soft blue color like the watering can in the picture.
Aging
The technique for simulating abrasions is very simple. As you noticed, we do not use a candle, but create abrasions using a cloth soaked in a drying retardant.
By slightly pressing, we erase the top layer of paint, through which the black color appears.
We do the same with the blue edging. It turns out very neat and gentle.
It seems like everything is ready, but no! We still need to spray and get a little dirty.
For spraying, you can use the same paint that was used to paint on the napkin. We drip some water into it, saturate the toothbrush with this liquid paint and, using a palette knife, moving it along the bristles from bottom to top, spray it onto the areas where we want to spray it. Use dark paint on the light part and light paint on the dark part. Oh, how I like it!
Before patination, it is necessary to varnish and preferably in two thin layers with drying and sanding. It is important. For beginner decoupage artists, I’ll explain why. Paint or bitumen varnish, depending on what you use to patina, will greatly reveal all the unevenness and roughness of the surface. And accordingly, during patination, our flowerpot will become very dirty, and when trying to remove excess dirt, there is a chance that we will erase both the paint layer and our splashes. Therefore, before patination, the surface must be smooth so that the patina glides over it.
First, I use paints for patination. By mixing colors we get dark Brown color, with the addition of black it will become more like the color of mud. drip a drying retardant into it. It can be replaced with water or some other moderator. I like the moderator from Plaid, and I will use it in this work.
Apply it to the area with a brush and begin to rub it into the surface with your fingers.
Due to the retarder, the paint does not dry out so quickly and it is possible to shade the paint with your fingers.
A little more paint went into the recesses, that's how it should be. We remove excess patina with a dry cloth or a damp one if there is more dirt than expected.
And finally, after drying, we cover with the last layer of acrylic matte varnish.
The work is basically ready, but I wanted to add a little more dirt. Using a sponge, lightly dipping it in bitumen varnish and tapping it on paper, I go over the abrasions.

To work you will need:
- A pot of suitable size and shape,
- Two beautiful colored napkins,
- Braid for edging,
- Glue (for decoupage or regular PVA),
- Acrylic lacquer,
- Scissors,
- Soft brush.
Operating procedure:
1. Cut the napkin into two parts. This, of course, depends on what design is on it. Because colored napkins are usually 2 or 3 layers, then you need to separate these lower layers and leave only the layer with the pattern. 
2. Coat part of the pot with glue and glue a napkin. Apply the napkin to the top edge of the pot and gently press downwards with the brush. Because If the napkin is rectangular and the pot tapers downward, then folds will form on the napkin. Try to distribute them evenly.
There are some subtleties here:
Firstly, do not apply glue to the entire pot at once - the glue dries quickly, and it will be uncomfortable for you to hold the pot.
Secondly, smooth the napkin not with your hands, but with a brush. Your hands will stick to the thin napkin and tear off pieces from it. (Look at the photo - circled in red, what can happen.)
Only 1.5 napkins were needed to decorate this large flower pot. You can cut small strips from the remaining half and decorate the pot stand with them.
3. After you have glued the napkins, cover them with glue again. If you use PVA glue, it is better to dilute it with water in a ratio of 1:3.
4. You can also glue fabric tape along the top edge of the pot. 
5. Let the glue dry thoroughly. 
6. Cover the pot with acrylic varnish - it will protect the flower pot from moisture. After this, it can be washed with water and will withstand perfectly if you decide to bathe your flower in the shower.
Now you can come up with your own different variants how to decorate a flower pot using ordinary napkins.
