• How to maintain hair color after dyeing. How to keep your hair color longer after dyeing? Saunas and swimming pools

    14.09.2024

Delicate light tones, dark colors or bright rich shades... Every woman has her own preferences in choosing hair dye.

It doesn’t matter what color your hair is - light or dark, you need to take care of it using special products. The ideal option would be shampoos for colored hair, as well as formulations selected according to the hair type and depending on the existing problems. It is optimal to alternate these products. It’s better to wash your hair every other day.

    This is interesting!

Products for colored hair contain substances that maintain color - these are polymers, proteins and sun filters. But there are no sulfates in such shampoos, which allows your hair to look great longer.

If you like to shower, carefully monitor the temperature! It is strictly forbidden to hold your head under hot streams of water; ultimately, this will damage not only your hair, but also your skin.

    Note!

The process of fixing dye pigments in the hair occurs within 48 hours. Therefore, for two days after coloring, hairdressers do not advise women to wash their hair.

Foreign experts have calculated that approximately half of women lose their intense and long-lasting hair color in the first week after dyeing due to frequent washing.

After washing their hair, most women dry their hair with a towel. Meanwhile, you shouldn’t do that! And not only because you can accidentally damage your curls! There is too high a risk of losing the saturation of hair color.

To prevent this from happening, carefully twist your hair into a rope and drain excess water from it, after which you can wrap your head with a towel. There is no need to rub your hair. Once the towel has absorbed moisture, it can be removed.

A common problem with colored hair is lack of shine. This nuance is especially noticeable on dark strands. To make your hair shine beautifully and shimmer in the sun, use leave-in treatments - conditioners and hair fillers. They will help maintain the shade of colored curls.

When choosing skincare products, look for cosmetic silicones. Professional brands use dimethicones, which are easily washed off with water without accumulating in the hair. After using silicones, the hair becomes soft and manageable and has a good shine.

    How to choose a comb?

To care for colored hair, use natural bristle combs or rubber combs. They do not damage the hair during styling, but on the contrary, give it a beautiful shine.

When planning New Year's styling, you can't help but dwell on such an important point as over-drying of colored strands. It is she who gives a faded and inexpressive color. In addition, dry hair does not hold dye pigment well.

According to hairdressers, the hair in the temple area is the driest. They need to be nourished and moisturized especially carefully. To do this, make intensive restorative masks 1-2 times a week, paying special attention to the specified area. Unlike conventional hair conditioners and balms, masks nourish hair and help restore damaged areas. As a result, curls become stronger and healthier.

In consultation with your hairdresser, use beauty products that maintain your hair color every 2-3 weeks. There are a lot of the latter today, starting with colorizing shampoos and ending with toners. If you choose the right shade, your hair will always be “alive” and shiny.

Read the label carefully before using the product. Thus, it is recommended to apply toners to damp hair after washing. For a more even application, distribute the product over the entire length of the hair with a comb. Wait for the time indicated on the label and rinse your hair.

When caring for colored hair, try to avoid ingredients such as alcohol in styling products. It is a frequent “guest” in mousses, gels and hair sprays, and is used as a bactericidal agent and preservative. But the irony is that it damages your hair by making it drier. Especially if you often style your curls using thermal devices.

If you have been dyeing your hair for a long time and you are tired of the shade, or your strands have begun to look dull, try changing your hair color by choosing a dye a couple of shades darker. Christian Hayden, hairdresser and creative director of the world famous hair cosmetics brand, says “Darker colors tend to reflect more light, so they can really add life and shine to hair.”

Well, if you don’t want to change the usual tone, you can introduce color nuances, for example, by coloring. Colored strands will not only add creativity to your look, visually refreshing and “rejuvenating”, but will also look incredibly impressive.

Do you like to swim and visit the pool often? Be sure to use a swimming cap for your hair. Chlorinated water has an extremely negative effect on curls, damaging them and changing color. This is especially true for ash blondes, who can get “green” strands after a swim. Proper hair care after visiting the pool looks like this: thoroughly wash your hair and apply a mask. At the same time, there is no need to use compositions for deep cleansing of hair! This common misconception does more harm than good.

But it is better not to visit the sauna and bathhouse immediately after coloring, taking a break for at least 2 weeks. High temperatures literally “evaporate” the color. By protecting your hair from high temperatures and retaining moisture inside the curls, you will thereby prolong the durability of the coloring, and therefore the beauty of your styling.

The beauty industry offers many procedures that can transform hair, making it brighter and richer, shiny and healthy. To preserve color, lamination and shielding are most effective. These measures not only “fix” the chosen shade and enhance shine, but also additionally protect the hair.

And just as you want to consistently and regularly adhere to new rules, principles of nutrition or a sports schedule, you also want to maintain your ideal new style for as long as possible.

How to extend the durability of dyed hair color?

Unfortunately, quite often the color of freshly dyed hair changes treacherously within a week after dyeing. How to maintain shine and the chosen shade at least until the next coloring procedure?

There are secrets, and we are happy to share them with you. And we’ll start with the procedures for hair before dyeing - so read carefully, especially if you’re just going to dye your hair! But even if you already have dyed hair, our tips will help you maintain the color, and further dyeing will be even more durable.

    1. Before dyeing, provide maximum care to your hair.

To begin with, hair needs constant care. This is an axiom and must always be adhered to. To maintain the color and shine of dyed hair, you need to start caring for your hair even before dyeing. Ideally, you will carry out restorative procedures within a couple of weeks. Therapeutic hair masks will nourish your hair with vitamins and protect its structure, while essential oils and balms will add strength and strength, so that by the time you dye your hair, your hair will be strong and healthy.

Also, for two weeks before coloring, forget about perm and limit the use of heat styling devices. Irons, tongs and curling irons dry out and damage your hair, this is no secret, so at least for this period, put them aside.

You should not wash your hair immediately before coloring. Firstly, the dye will adhere worse, and secondly, the hair will not be protected and may simply dry out, especially if it is lightened. But if the day before you used styling products - gel, mousse or hairspray, then all this styling remaining on your hair will reduce the impact of coloring pigments on your hair.

Ideally, it is better to wash your hair 1-2 days before dyeing.

    3. After coloring, refrain from washing your hair for at least 24 hours

Allow the dye to set on the hair, do not interfere with the coloring pigments to be fully absorbed. Degreasing shampoos, and even more so anti-dandruff shampoos, are quite aggressive, and they should be used no earlier than every other day, and ideally after 48 hours.

    4. Choose a mild shampoo for colored hair

It is no coincidence that cosmetologists developed them and called them special shampoos for colored hair. Such detergents do not contain components that wash out coloring pigments. If you don’t want to have dull and dull hair a week after dyeing, then reconsider your views on choosing shampoo. The right shampoo will contain sunscreen filters that nourish proteins, and natural ingredients, such as beeswax or plant extracts, will not only give shine and a healthy glow to your hair, but will also strengthen the hair itself and its hair follicle.

    5. Choose hair lines that match your hair color

Shampoo for colored hair is already good. And to maintain a certain shade, we recommend choosing such a shampoo to match the color of your hair color.

    • The extract of laurel and rosemary in the shampoo is suitable for those with dark hair; these natural ingredients will not only preserve hair color every time you wash your hair, but will also add richness and shine to it.
    • For blondes and fair-haired beauties, honey, chamomile or aloe extract is desirable in the shampoo.
    • Turmeric and carrots will help preserve redness in dyed hair, and if you dyed your hair with henna, then shampoos containing it will also help you.

When using such shampoos, your hair color will be preserved for a long time, and your hair will stop splitting and become thicker.

    6. Don’t forget about the conditioner: it’s better to use the same brand as the shampoo.

The second, but no less important component for caring for colored hair is balm. The balm is also able to preserve and even restore hair color. When applying the balm to damp hair, all the scales are carefully closed and the coloring particles are preserved. If the balm and shampoo are chosen from the same brand and line, then the result will be the best, the hair color will be preserved, the curls will be healthy and beautiful, and the scalp will be well-groomed.

    7. Intensive care: masks for colored hair are a must!

No matter how gentle the dye is, it is still stressful for the hair. Dyed hair is even more in need of intensive care, nutrition and protection.

More active helpers, such as hair masks, come to the rescue. Regular use of masks will give your hair a chance to become as healthy, beautiful and sleek as possible. Naturally based masks, thanks to natural ingredients, are rich in vitamins, fatty acids and active substances. Masks containing macadamia, northern cloudberry, forest sage or argan oils soften hair, protect against moisture loss and stimulate hair growth. Thanks to them, you will retain beautiful color and shine and, most importantly, strengthen your hair.

    8. Maintain shine and shine with oils

Cosmetic hair oils are responsible for deeper and more intense nutrition and hydration. Sea buckthorn and coconut oils restore the damaged structure of colored hair, eliminate fragility and provide thermal protection during styling. Hair gains elasticity and smoothness, and thanks to keratin it becomes stronger and stronger.

For highlighted hair or hair of light shades, coconut oil with lemon and chamomile will be an excellent helper. This oil is not only an excellent antioxidant, but also an excellent ultraviolet protector, which means it is indispensable during the summer sun and heat.

    9. Rinse your hair with herbs for long-lasting color

The final stage in care procedures is rinsing. Regular rinsing of hair with special herbal complexes is ideal for those who use natural-based dyes. In addition to strengthening the roots and stimulating hair growth, such rinsing procedures do not wash out the color of dyed hair, but, on the contrary, saturate it and make it more shiny and beautiful.

    • Sage is ideal for dark hair
    • Chamomile is suitable for light hair
    • Henna is exclusively suitable for those who dye their hair with henna or dye based on it.

After using herbal rinses, hair is much easier to comb, does not get tangled during the day, and the problem of hair loss disappears. This cosmetic product also has an antistatic effect.

    10. Choose gentle hair dyes

And of course, be careful when choosing the paint itself. It is best to choose hair dyes that are gentle and bio-based. Natural dyes with mineral ingredients do an excellent job of treating gray hair, strengthening hair and caring for the scalp. And additional coloring to maintain color will not have a harmful effect, unlike more aggressive paints.

Here are a few more simple but effective recommendations, following which you will take even more care of your hair.

    • Do not leave the dye on your hair for longer than the recommended time.
    • Do not leave the already mixed paint, but use it immediately.
    • Do not use metal combs.
    • Do not visit the pool or sauna for the next week after coloring. High temperatures and chlorine will not help preserve hair color, but rather will prevent color pigments from fixing on the hair.
    • If you still prefer bright coloring, then choose the most gentle and intensive care.
    • If you follow our tips after dyeing, the color, shine and radiance of your hair will delight you and those around you for as long as possible.

Coloring is a simple and fairly inexpensive way to change your appearance and add some flair to your look. Regardless of whether you dye your hair in the salon or at home, you want to maintain a bright, rich, rich color for as long as possible. Today we will tell you how to achieve this. A few simple tips on what to do after dyeing so that the color remains beautiful for a long time and your hair stays healthy.

Listen to the audio version of the article:

    1. Choose the right color.

The more the shade of the dye differs from the natural shade of your hair, the faster the new color will wash off. Ideally, stylists recommend changing your hair color by no more than three tones - lighter or darker than the original shade.

    2. Decide what intensity of coloring your hair can withstand.

If your hair and scalp are generally healthy and do not suffer from serious problems, you can try more permanent dyes. When using permanent dye, the color will last longer, but the risk of damaging your hair increases. In any case, after dyeing, the hair urgently needs special care. First of all, it is gentle cleansing, intensive hydration and nutrition. If your hair is damaged and weakened, you should use gentle dyeing methods - tinting agents or eluminating.

    3. A good way to extend the life of a beautiful hair color is to do lamination.

    5. Make nourishing and moisturizing masks regularly.

Dry and damaged hair loses color faster. That is why it is important to restore their structure.

    6. After dyeing, protect your hair from direct sunlight and ultraviolet radiation.

Otherwise, they will quickly fade and, in addition, may suffer from the negative effects of ultraviolet rays. Ideally, you should constantly apply a special protective spray with UV filters to your strands, even on a cloudy day.

Girls are fickle in terms of appearance. Beautiful ladies experiment with clothing style, makeup, hairstyle and, of course, hair color. Who doesn’t want to become the happy owner of shiny strands that strive to develop in the wind. Beautiful hair attracts the attention of others, but only if you take care of your hair properly. Many representatives of the fair sex make a lot of mistakes after dyeing. Let's look at the basic principles of hair care to preserve color.

Method number 1. Washing your hair

    1. In most cases, in a beauty salon, girls ask the hairdresser to do a preliminary haircut before coloring. This move is correct.
    2. Upon arriving home, beautiful ladies immediately want to rinse their strands to get rid of small hairs. Such actions provoke the washing out of the coloring pigment, which has not yet had time to gain a foothold in the hair structure.
    3. This feature is achieved because the paint particles are similar to powder. When the composition hits the strands, it mixes with oxygen and increases in size. Once the desired shape is achieved, the pigment is firmly established in the hair shaft, as a result of which its leaching becomes minimal.
    4. This chemical process requires 45-50 hours. For this reason, it is recommended not to wash your hair for 2 days after coloring. Otherwise, the hair will lose about 35% of its color.

    Method number 2. Pre-hair restoration

    1. Before applying the pigment, restore your hair, eliminating any existing damage. Porous hair does not retain dye well, so it washes out faster.
    2. 7-10 days before the intended staining, do keratization or biolamination. The procedures are aimed at smoothing the scales, eliminating the effect of electrification and sectioning.
    3. If it is not possible to resort to salon restoration methods, apply gelatin to the strands for 2 weeks. Dilute it with water and leave for 25-30 minutes. An alternative is an egg mask made from chicken white and olive oil.
    4. If possible, visit a hairdresser before coloring so that the master can cut off split ends and give the hair the desired shape. This move will save you from washing your hair, which is not recommended immediately after the procedure.

    Method No. 3. Professional shampoos

    1. In most cases, all “ordinary” shampoos are aimed at the average category of citizens, so they are affordable and universal. Such compositions contain alkali, which makes the hair porous. An inappropriate Ph-balance washes the dye out of the structure, causing the strands to become faded.
    2. Professional cosmetics are aimed at smoothing out scales and preserving color in the hair structure. Such preparations do not contain sulfates, which act aggressively on the hair. The optimal Ph balance is more acidic and is suitable for colored hair.
    3. Choose cosmetics labeled “to preserve color” or “for colored hair.” Such shampoos include silk proteins, polymers, SPF filters, ceramides, keratin, biotin and other useful components.
    4. The composition does not have to be used constantly; it is enough to wash your hair with shampoo for 10-15 days after coloring. Next, you can resort to regular high-quality shampoo without alkali. Again, the main thing is that the product is designed for colored strands.

    Method number 4. Tint products

    1. Today, leading manufacturing companies have developed cosmetics for blondes, brown-haired women, brunettes, redheads, and fair-haired women. Choose balms, masks, sprays, serums, oils, shampoos taking into account your hair color. Targeted caring cosmetics help maintain the shade at the proper level for a long time.
    2. In most cases, the listed products have a tinting effect. They partially color the strands, retaining the existing pigment in the hair structure. In a word, you need to visit a beauty salon or a professional hairdressing store, and then buy tint products from them.
    3. For example, tinted shampoos and rinses for blondes block yellowness, which often breaks out to the surface of the hair. Such compositions contain brightening components (lemon, chamomile, cucumber, wheat proteins, etc.), which only emphasize the platinum shade.
    4. Dyed red and red hair fades the fastest because the pigment molecules are too large to stay in the hair shaft for long. Such a mop requires more careful care. Toning agents include cinnamon, madder, pomegranate, black caviar or cherry. The listed components retain a fiery hue for a long time.
    5. For brunettes, brown-haired and fair-haired women, products with basma, walnut, colorless henna, and amber are suitable. The ingredients retain the pigment in the hair shaft, making the hair more voluminous and bright. As a rule, toning products for dark-haired ladies are the most gentle and effective.
    6. The downside of this type of care cosmetics is considered to be dryness, which can appear after prolonged use. To eliminate consequences, use the products no more than 2 times a week. On other days, use professional formulations for colored hair without tint components.

    Method No. 5. Moisturizing cosmetics

    1. Coloring exposes hair to dryness, causing dehydration. To prevent the consequences and maintain a bright shade of hair, buy caring cosmetics marked “Double/triple hydration”.
    2. The best option is considered to be products based on panthenol, natural and essential oils, and biotin. The components retain moisture, preventing strands from drying out. They also prevent the negative effects of chlorinated, salt and fresh water.
    3. Common and effective drugs include the following: “Pantin Pro-V”, “Nivea”, “Vella”, “Le Petit Marseille”, “Klia”, etc. Buy shampoos, conditioners, sprays, serums and masks from the listed manufacturers, aimed at hydration.

Salon treatments to maintain hair color

    1. Lifting. Hair restoration is carried out using ultrasonic and infrared waves. Thanks to the influence of ultrasound, water molecules, silk proteins, keratin, and biotin penetrate into the rod. Next, the composition is “sealed” using an infrared lamp. As a result of such manipulations, the hair retains its color for a long time and remains moisturized.
    2. Keratin restoration/lamination. The master applies a mixture of biological components from beeswax, keratin, and protein to the hair. Next, the hair is heated thermally, as a result of which the composition penetrates into the core. After this, the hair is subjected to a cold cycle, in which the scales are sealed due to temperature changes. Ultimately, the strands become shiny and perfectly smooth.
    1. Exposure to high temperatures exposes hair to dryness. Moisture and the pigment itself evaporate from the rod. To prevent this from happening, use products with a thermal protection effect. The preparations cover the hair with a film, as a result of which hot devices do not damage the strands.
    2. If possible, reduce drying your hair with a hairdryer; it is better to carry out the procedure naturally or with a towel. Also exclude the use of curling irons, straighteners, and hot curlers. When visiting a solarium, cover your head with a medical cap. When sunbathing, hide your hair under a cap.
    3. For 10 days after dyeing, avoid visiting thermal complexes. This includes a bathhouse, sauna, hot water bath. You should also limit swimming in the pool (or wear a rubber headgear). In the future, after each exposure to chlorine or salt, rinse your hair with plain water or sage decoction.
    4. Do not use restorative (nourishing) products for 2 weeks after dyeing. Such preparations penetrate deep into the rod, pushing pigment to the surface. As a result, hair becomes dull almost instantly.
    5. Get into the habit of combing your hair with natural combs made of wood or rubber. Avoid plastic and metal tools, they provoke a statistical effect. As a massage brush, purchase a comb with natural bristles (a device for hair extensions is suitable).
    6. After the coloring procedure, it is not recommended to wash your hair for 2 days. If there is such a need, use dry shampoo. It contains talc, which absorbs dirt and sebum, drawing them to the surface. Distribute the product over the roots and rub in thoroughly, then remove excess with a comb.
    7. If you take a shower or bath to cleanse your body (without washing your hair), wear a rubber cap. Do not expose your hair to moisture again.
    8. The condition of hair, as well as nails and skin, directly depends on a balanced diet. The more correct your diet is, the healthier your body will be. Do not neglect breakfast, in the morning eat porridge with berries and fruits, cottage cheese, eggs. Create a menu that includes meat, seafood, fish, low-fat cheese, milk, soy, and spinach. Eat a handful of nuts or dried fruits a day.
    9. After 2 weeks, nourish your hair with hot oils to maintain color. To do this, heat burdock, olive, corn or castor oil in the microwave and rub into the strands. Wrap your head in a towel, leave for 1 hour, rinse. Perform manipulations 1-2 times a week.
    10. Try to dye your hair along its entire length as little as possible. If you can see overgrown roots, disguise them with natural dyes, tonics, mascara, and concealer. If possible, use permanent pigments no more than once every 2 months.
    11. Use nutritional supplements that will enrich your hair with vitamins. Take a course of fish/badger oil or special microelements for hair. The drugs will fill the gaps that are often formed due to poor nutrition.

Pre-restore your hair before dyeing; after the procedure, do not wash your hair for 2 days. Buy professional caring cosmetics, use toning shampoos and conditioners. Moisturize your hair regularly; in extreme cases, do lifting or biolamination.
