I’m sitting, sewing a New Year’s suit for my youngest, for the kindergarten Christmas tree. Parents are given a task: girls are snowflakes, boys are forest animals. I decided that there would definitely be bunnies, which means that we should be a bear (a wolf, a fox and a hedgehog somehow didn’t look good to me). Thinking that I didn’t want a suit in the usual sense (a satin or fur jumpsuit or a shaggy vest), I decided to sew trousers and a sweatshirt from velor (well, almost fur) and a hat-mask, especially since everything was lying at home and waiting for its turn. hours.
Based on this MK, you can sew a hat for any animal, changing only the ears and appliqué.
Well, let's begin.
We will need elastic material for the hat (to fit better on the child’s head), felt and a sewing machine.
I took the hat pattern from Ottobre magazine for free, I just removed the extra seams. I drew the face of the bear I needed and made its pattern.
1. Cutting the hat, I made one seam at the back of the head and darts, closed the rest. We cut out 2 parts of the hat (if the lining is made of the same material) and parts of the muzzle from felt and ears (details of the ears from felt cut without seam allowances). I sew the dart on the forehead on the top part of the hat (not on the lining).
2. I sew the details of the ears, placing the velor a little along the round part of them, so that by turning them inside out, a dark edging is formed on the front side. I place the finished ears on the right and left darts and grab them by the very edge of the seam of the hat, so that there is a general impression of the muzzle.
3. I attach the nose and pupils to the muzzle blank and place it in the right place on the forehead near the hat. I stitch with a regular stitch on a machine.
4. Next, I mark the places of the seams on the muzzle and stitch them with contrasting threads. I embroider highlights in the eyes and dots on the cheeks using French knots.
Well, you can already see what we are succeeding in.
5. I sew the top of the hat and the lining along the face line, then sew up all the darts, including those on the lining. Lastly, I sew down the seam at the back of the head, leaving 7-8cm unsewn in the lining in order to turn the hat on the right side.
The need to bring their son in a carnival costume to a New Year's party confronts parents with the choice of buying or making a festive outfit themselves. From the point of view of saving labor costs, a simpler solution would be to go to the store. However, spending family money on a one-time purchase is an irrational step.
Preparing a costume yourself scares many parents. But practice shows that a suitable outfit can be prepared in a couple of evenings. A good choice would be the image of an unofficial national symbol - a bear.
What should a children's bear costume consist of?
The first association with a bear's carnival outfit is a baggy faux fur jumpsuit. It looks the most beautiful, but it will be difficult for the child to stay in such warm clothes for a long time. For this reason, it is worth choosing a more comfortable option, which is made of fleece fabric.
Despite the fact that in nature there are several colors of these predators, it is worth choosing traditional brown material as the basis for the costume.
The outfit itself will consist of the following parts:
a hat imitating the head of a bear, with ears, eyes and nose sewn to it;
vest made of fleece fabric;
old pants of a similar color, which can be shortened and hemmed at the edge.
Materials and equipment for sewing
For the costume you will need fleece fabric, padding polyester, brown threads, glue, a sewing needle and scissors. Faster and better quality work will come out when using a sewing machine. If you do not have this device at home, you can temporarily borrow it from friends or acquaintances. You can use faux fur for the tail.
Your son's old pants will serve as the base for the bottom of the outfit. It is advisable that they be dark gray or brown (it is better not to use bright trousers).
Preparing the breeches
The lower part of the outfit will have to be shortened due to the fact that the old pants have become too small in length. The first step is to cut off unnecessary parts of the trousers using scissors. If it’s not quite straight, the mistake can be corrected. After this, you will need to rip the inner seams of the legs at the bottom by 5-7 cm and measure the width of the trousers in this part.
The resulting elements are sewn using a machine, first on the outside of each pant leg, and then on the inside. Then you should restore the previously ripped seam over the fleece. As a result, you will get a brown edging at the bottom of the breeches.
For the tail you will need a round piece of faux fur to match the suit with a diameter of about 10 cm. It should be stitched around the circumference, pulled off the thread and filled the resulting cavity with padding polyester. The tail can then be attached to the back of the breeches.
The preparation of the bottom part of the outfit is complete!
Sewing a vest
The vest can be made solid, since this option is sewn from 2 elements of fabric.
A T-shirt or sleeveless vest from your son is suitable as a sample for the pattern. It should be reproduced on paper with a margin of a couple of centimeters, which will be “eaten up” by the seams.
When the fabric is cut according to the drawing, you can begin stitching the resulting pieces of material. It is important to ensure an even direction of movement while using the machine. Having connected the resulting parts on the sides, you should refine the vest from the bottom, carefully tucking it in this part and securing the resulting fold with a seam from the inside.
Making a hat
By analogy with the previous element, you can sew a fleece hat using a pattern made on the basis of a boy’s knitted hat. The technology completely replicates the production of a vest. After this, only the last details will remain: ears, nose and eyes.
Any old soft toy can act as a “donor” for the eyes. They can be attached with glue or thread, if there is an appropriate hole.
The ears are made from round pieces of fleece, tied around the perimeter and stuffed with padding polyester. Small cuts are made in the upper part of the hat, where the ears will be located. They are attached with seams.
The nose should be black and resemble a potato. Any fabric that needs to be folded and stuffed with padding polyester is suitable for it, and then sewn to the bottom edge of the front side of the cap.
Creating a comfortable costume for a children's party does not require extraordinary abilities. Sewing can be an enjoyable and fun activity if you get the whole family involved!
A carnival bear costume is a great option for a children's party! We will tell you in detail how to create a pattern and sew a charming bear costume with your own hands.
Carnival bear costume: preparation for sewing
In the process of creating a festive costume, we will need: the base of the pattern, suitable fabric in several colors, to match, buttons and cords for ties. The bear's carnival costume will consist of a brown velvet jumpsuit with an insert - a shirtfront made of knitted fabric. The headdress will be made like a cap, repeating the shape of the head with ears. To give the hat the correct shape, we will use bones.
So, let's sew a bear costume!
Construction of the base
Jumpsuit design:
Measurements that need to be taken for construction: SB + increase for freedom under the elastic band, O legs, D of the product, H of the chest of the overalls (the size is taken at will, measured from the waist line up), W of the chest of the overalls.
Front half of trousers:
From the first point, we put D ed perpendicularly down, and ½ SB + 1/8 SB + 1.5 cm perpendicularly to the right. And then we connect the third point to the second at a right angle. Mark point number 4 below. The grid is ready.
From point 3 down the perpendicular we will set aside ½ SB + 1/8 SB + 0.5 cm, put the number 5.
From the fifth point, perpendicular to the left, set aside 1/8 SB and mark point 6, and then from this point raise the perpendicular upward until it intersects with the top line of the trousers, point 7.
From the seventh point downwards we will set aside 1 cm - point 8. Now we will smoothly draw a line for the top of the trousers (points 1 and 8), and then a line for the bow (8 and 5).
From point 4 to the left along the bottom line, set aside ¼ SB - 1.5 cm, put point 9. Let’s draw a slightly concave step line, connecting points 5 and 9 by hand.
From point 9 to the left we will set aside (O legs – 2cm)/2 and mark the 10th point.
Divide the distance between the first point and the ninth in half and mark point a. Let's connect points a and 10 using a ruler.
We divide the distance between points 9 and 10 in half - the middle of the front half of the trousers.
From the eighth point up at a right angle, place the B breasts and mark point 11.
Perpendicular to the left of point 11, set aside ½ the width of the breast and place point number 12.
From the first point up, we will set aside the width of the belt; this value is taken as desired, for example, 5 cm. Let's mark point 13.
Let's connect points 12 and 13 using a ruler, and then divide this distance in half - point 14.
Perpendicular 14-15 will be equal to 3cm. Let's draw the side of the breast concave by hand. The front of the jumpsuit is ready!
Back half of trousers:
From the first point we put Dizd + 3cm perpendicularly downwards, and SB perpendicularly to the right - (1/16 SB + 1cm). And then we connect the third point to the second at a right angle. Mark point number 4 below. The grid is ready.
From the first point downwards we will put ½ SB + 1/8 SB + 2 cm and mark the fifth point.
From the fifth at a right angle to the right, set aside ¼ SB and place the 6th point.
From the first point to the right we will set aside ½ SB -1/16 SB – 1 cm, we will get point number 7. Let’s connect points 6 and 7 using a ruler.
From the sixth point up the line we will set aside ¼ SB - 2 cm, put point 8, and then connect points 8 and 5 by hand.
From the 2nd point to the right we set aside ¼ SB - 2cm and mark the 9th point, then connect points 5 and 9 smoothly by hand.
From the ninth to the tenth point we move to the right (O legs + 2cm) /2, and then from 3 down 3cm and mark the 11th point. Let's form a rhinestone along the top line of the back half by connecting point 7 to point 11.
From 11 down, set aside ½ SB and mark point number 12, and then smoothly connect point 12 with 10 by hand. Divide the distance between points 9 and 10 in half - the middle of the back half of the trousers.
We are building a belt for the upper part of the overalls. The distance from 7 points to 14 is equal to the distance from 1 point to 13 along the front half of the overalls.
The distance from 11 points to 13 is equal to the distance from 1 point to 13 along the front half of the overalls. Using a ruler, connect point 13 to 14 – the line of the top of the overalls.
Construction of the hat:
The only measurement that needs to be taken for construction is the height of the cap. Measured from the back of the head to the seventh cervical vertebra.
From the first point, perpendicular to the right and down, plot the height of the cap. Let's put point 2 and point 3, respectively. Let's connect them at right angles and get point number 4.
Divide the distance between points 1 and 2 in half. Let's mark the middle - X.
From 3 to 6 and from 4 to 7 points we will set aside 2 cm. This figure is taken depending on the required fit and style. After you have made several hats using this pattern, it will become clear what size to choose.
From point 1 down to 5 we set aside 3 cm. We divide the distance from point 2 to 4 in half - point a.
So, all that remains is to connect all the dots. First, use a ruler to connect point 5 to 6, then by hand 5 to x, and then to point a and 7. Connect the last points: 7 to 6. The first part of the hat is ready!
From the first point we put 9-10 cm down and mark point 2. And then we divide this distance in half - point x.
From point x to the left at a right angle we will set aside a value equal to 5 through x and a to point 7 along the side of the cap. Let's put point number 3.
From point three down and up we put 2.5 - 3 cm perpendicularly. At the top is point 4, at the bottom is point 5. We connect points 1 and 4, as well as points 2 and 5 using a ruler.
Costume modeling
We cut our pattern along the waistline both on the front half and on the back.
At the bottom we make the trousers wider, adding 2 - 3 cm on each side. We take the breast part of the front half and attach to it, butt to joint, the part cut off from the back half. This part is cut out in one copy, and it needs to be laid in the middle on the fold of the fabric, along the main thread.
The decorative detail on the chest is equal in height from 1 to 2 to the height of the overalls breast minus 4-5 cm, and the width from 3 to 4 is taken as desired. No modeling is required for the hat. The only thing that is necessary is to draw the appropriately sized ears by hand directly on the fabric.
Uncover
To sew the suit we will use:
- Fabric of several colors and dublerin
- Small pieces of bandeau
- Rubber
- Thin rope for ties
- Bones;
- Buttons
- Threads, scissors, pins, chalk
- For overalls: front half piece - 2 pcs, back half piece - 2 pcs, chest piece - 1 pc, chest insert piece - 1 pc.
- For the hat: side part - 2 pcs, middle part - 1 pc, ear parts - 6 pcs.
On all parts where there is a belt line, we make an allowance of 2 cm. We glue the part - insert - with double tape, and also glue the bandeau to the back of the ears. We cut the seeds along the length of the middle insert - 2 pcs. When sewing, we will also need bias tape, buttons for the straps and an elastic band that we will insert into the belt.
Work progress
Let's prepare the overhead insert. Fold the seam allowance along the entire contour to the wrong side, and then iron it with an iron.
We put the face with the face of the trousers and chest. We sew them along the waistband, an allowance of 2 cm - we process them with an overlocker.
Then iron the breast allowance and stitch it one and a half centimeters wide.
We try on and determine the length of the straps. We connect the cut out parts along the side seam, and then put in loops from the rope, according to the size of the buttons. We adjust the straps according to the width to secure the loops. Turn the straps over your face.
We place the straps on the back of the overalls on the wrong side and finish the open section of the chest with bias tape, from the front inside out.
We connect the three main parts of the hat along the middle seams. We process the allowances, iron them onto the middle part and stitch them.
On the upper parts of the ears we add zigzag details of a different color and smaller size. Then we fold the lower parts with the upper ones and grind them down. We turn it onto the face, straightening the ears according to the shape.
We use bias tape around the entire perimeter of the hat, inserting strings for ties on the sides. On the ear parts, fold the seam allowance inward along the bottom. And then we carefully sew the ears onto the hat using hand stitches.
Top. Shirt-shirt of any bright intense color (red, pink, blue, emerald green, yellow) with polka dots or plain (Fig. 1).
Button fastening at the back, imitation at the front. Along the bottom of the sleeves (you can also go along the bottom of the shirt), along the collar and along the cut of the collar, a colored variegated braid is sewn, harmonizing in color and pattern with the fabric of the shirt. If there is no suitable braid, you can sew 2-3 narrow colored ribbons at a short distance from each other, or sew a narrow braid between two narrow ribbons (convolvulus and another zigzag) or even lay out a pattern of narrow braid. You can also sew not a braid, but a narrow strip (2-3 cm) of bright colorful fabric. Belt - a colored scarf or piece of fabric. At the very ends of the belt, fringe, braid is sewn on, or tassels are made. You can embroider patterns on a sewing machine.
On the hands- black, brown or gray gloves. Pads are put on and sewn on them by hand, giving the paws massiveness (Fig. 2). They are sewn from the same fabric as the hood. If the fabric is thin, then between the glove and the cover there are 2 layers of padding polyester.
Bottom. Pants (Fig. 3) - bloomers, plain or striped (for example, white stripe on a dark blue background). There is elastic at the bottom and top.
On my feet. Chunky shoes or boots.
On the head. A half mask with a hood (Fig. 3) made of flannel, faux fur (for example, from an old fur coat) or any brown fabric, preferably with pile. It is good to use knitwear (an old plain sweater or leggings). If the fabric is thin, then the hood going down to the back will need to be duplicated with synthetic padding, batting or thick fabric.
Nose(muzzle) sew from 3 parts (Fig. 4), stuff with synthetic padding or cut foam rubber, slightly gather the edges and sew by hand to the hood. The muzzle can also be made from
A plastic bottle, gluing it using calico and PVA glue to a rigid base.
Ears(Fig. 5) tuck, turn out and sew to the mask. The mouth can be made from red soutache or a narrow ribbon. The tip of the nose is made of black leather (old gloves, bag) or shiny black fabric.
Eyes- a circle of white fabric on which a round dark button is sewn (Fig. 6).
Mothers dress their children with cute animals for the holidays. The image of a bear cub for a boy is more appropriate than ever.
Today's master class is devoted to the question: how to sew a bear costume with your own hands for a boy.
DIY bear costume for a boy: materials and tools
The fabric from which the suit is made must be breathable, and if it is faux fur, then the knitting must be loose and loose. This is in case you want to sew a costume from an old thick blanket that exactly resembles the skin of a bear. If the material is too dense, the child will sweat quickly. In this state, the baby will not want to have fun at the holiday. For the same reason, this master class offers a separate version of the suit, where the vest and pants are sewn separately. For sewing you will need the following materials and tools:
The top or face fabric is brown or beige, terry or fleecy (the length of the pile does not matter);
The lower or inner fabric does not matter what color, the main thing is that it is made of natural material (linen, poplin, satin, cotton);
Plastic eyes and nose to indicate a face or a headband for the ears;
Strong thread, scissors, measuring tape, sewing machine.
If you have a plain natural thick fabric or satin, then the bottom or inner fabric will not be needed.
DIY bear costume for a boy: two-piece suit
For this costume you will need to sew a vest, shorts or pants and a hat or ears on the headband. Boots and mittens are sewn upon request. The child will look like a bear even without them. At the request of the parents, the image can be supplemented with little things. So, for example: a vest can be sewn either with ties or in one piece, with a bow on the neck and fabric of a different color on the chest and stomach.
Option 1
This is a solution for making a costume that can be made from brown satin fabric. For this product you will need a piece of fleece fabric, satin fabric, a bow or red bow fabric and a wide elastic band.
Stage 1
Before drawing the pattern, measure your child with a measuring tape. You will need to know the height of the sweater (from shoulder to hip), sleeve length, arm circumference, collar circumference, shoulder width (from collar to shoulder angle), chest circumference. For pants: thigh circumference, leg length from waist to ankle (if these are shorts, then to the knee), length of the inside of the leg (from groin to ankle), leg circumference.
Stage 2
Mark the dimensions on the fabric, draw the pieces and cut them out of the fabric. You should have: two parts of the jacket (front and back), two parts of the sleeves, two parts of the pants. Please note that the front part of the jacket must be cut from fleece fabric.
This pants pattern is the simplest and fastest.
Stage 3
Sew the front and back parts of the sweater together. Sew sleeves into the arm holes.
Sew the parts of the pants together along the upper side edges. Roll the product so that the seam lies between the parts, and two parts lie on the sides of the seam, folded in half. In this position, stitch each part separately. This seam will go between the legs.
Stage 4
Fold the cut part of the sleeves and the bottom of the jacket and stitch, retreating from the edge one centimeter. Fold and stitch the waistband and leg opening in the same way.
Insert a wide elastic band into the sleeves and waist of the jacket. Insert the same into your pants at the waist and legs.
Stage 5
Sew the finished butterfly to the neck. If you don’t have a purchased butterfly, you can make it yourself.
You will need a square of fabric for the bow 20x20 cm and a strip of the same fabric 5x10 cm. Sew two opposite edges of the large square together and turn the seam so that it lies in the middle of the resulting tube, and not on the side. Turn and iron the fabric tube.
Make a small circle from the strip in exactly the same way. Insert the large circle into the small one and pull it exactly to the middle. The butterfly is ready. You can safely sew it onto a bear costume.
Option 2
For this type of suit, the vest is worn wide open.
Stage 1
Select a fabric and apply the vest details to it. If you have chosen fabric with faux fur for such a suit, then a lining made of natural fabric is usually sewn onto its inner part. This means that if you sew in a lining, the patterns must be duplicated. That is, the pattern of details is applied both to the outer fabric with faux fur and to the lining or inner fabric.
For sewing, you need to get two parts of the front side and one part of the back side of the vest from the front part and exactly the same parts from the inner fabric.
Draw the outline of the parts for sewing pants or shorts onto the fabric.
Stage 2
Cut out the resulting parts and sew together separately parts from the inner fabric and separately from the outer fabric. The vest is sewn along the shoulder and along the side.
It’s worth mentioning right away that shorts or pants are sewn according to the same principle as in the first version of the suit.
Stage 3
If you are sewing a product without a second inner layer, then turn all the cut edges (sleeve, neck, hem, trouser leg and waistband) inward one or two turns and stitch, moving no more than one centimeter away from the edge.
If you decide to sew a suit from two layers (inner and outer), then assemble the resulting parts together. Place pants made from inner fabric with pants made from artificial hem, right side to right side. Sew along the cut edge, namely at the waistband and legs. Do the same with the vest.
Leave a small section (15-20cm) unstitched. Turn the pants and vest inside out through these holes. Sew the unstitched area of fabric by hand using a blind stitch.
DIY bear costume for a boy: hat or headband with ears
In order to make it clear that this is a bear and not another animal, you need to sew a hat with the face and ears of a bear.Stage 1
In order to sew a bear hat, you need to measure the circumference and depth of the child’s head.
Stage 2
Apply the pattern of the hat, ears and muzzle to the fabric according to the following pattern.
Stage 3
Cut out the resulting parts and sew together. Pre-sewn ears are inserted into the ear holes, and the seam is sewn on a sewing machine.
Fold the bottom edge of the hat under and stitch around the entire circumference.
Stage 4
Sew the face onto the front of the hat, leaving a small area unsewn. Push a lot of filler under the fabric through it and sew the remaining section. These will be the bear's cheeks. He has them big, so the larger the shape, the better.
Sew the nose and eyes into place. The hat with the bear's face is ready.
If you don't want to bother with sewing a hat, you can make bear ears and attach them to the headband.
According to the diagram above, only the ears are cut out and sewn together. The bottom edge is not stitched. The ears are turned out and the bottom edge is placed on the headband. Sew the cut edge so that the section of the rim remains hidden inside between the fabrics.
