• Dog training at home. Simple rules and techniques. How to train a puppy - rules you must read

    13.08.2019

    Initial training is always done at home, in a calm environment, where nothing distracts or frightens the pet. Dog training at home is a start, during which the pet will master the main, vital commands. How to teach a dog to understand you? How to praise your pet correctly? What mistakes do inexperienced owners often make?

    There are no stupid dogs. Just believe it and accept it as a fact - it will be easier to work with a dog. Of course, you should start as soon as the puppy appears in the house. The age of two months is quite suitable for mastering simple skills, and it is during this period that the baby absorbs knowledge at an incredible speed. Sometimes it even seems that dogs become stupid with age, but this is not so - it’s just harder for older pets to learn new information. Although training adult dogs at home will also definitely bear fruit if done correctly. So, let’s remember the inviolable dogmas:

    • the first classes last no more than 10 minutes, two to three times a day;
    • lessons always begin by repeating already learned commands;
    • before training, the dog should be allowed to lose excess energy;
    • does not exercise on a full stomach, immediately after sleep or late in the evening;
    • we punish the dog only with our voice, saying reproachfully “Ay-ay-ay”, “Bad”, “You can’t do that.” We don’t scream, we don’t grab you by the scruff of the neck, we don’t beat you under any circumstances for refusing to carry out a command;
    • Dog training at home always takes place in the form of play, in a good positive mood. The pet needs to be interested, “included” in the process without pressure or coercion;
    • Say the command once, maximum twice. It’s useless to say “Come to me, come to me, come to me!” a hundred times. - this way you will only teach the dog that it is possible to carry out a command from the tenth instruction, but this is unacceptable (a speeding car will not wait);
    • Praise your dog as if he just saved the world. Rejoice wildly at every success, speak in a playful, happy voice;
    • Practice every day so that your pet does not forget the learned commands. 10 minutes is enough to repeat the entire “course”.

    Failure to follow any rule is a big mistake! Pay attention to the little things, it's very important. Dogs detect the slightest changes in mood, intonation, and gestures. First of all, watch yourself, your actions, then it will be easier for your pet to understand you. Don't confuse your dog by using different gestures or variations of commands (come here, come to me, come).

    How to interest a dog?

    First of all, the owner must sincerely enjoy training. Then the dog will feel that its owner is happy and will follow commands with increasing diligence. Do not “turn on” the leader unless absolutely necessary (aggression, direct or veiled).

    To keep your pet interested, one of the methods of encouragement is used - praise with play, food and/or attention. Typically, training small breeds Dog training at home goes well if the owner emotionally and joyfully praises the pet, consolidating the result with a tasty piece. Although any dog will not refuse a treat, you should not overfeed it (the piece is tiny, only to indicate the correctness of the actions). Play as a reward works well with active breeds (hunters, dogs).

    At first, give your pet a hint. For example, before training, you can put on a waist pouch with a treat, which the dog sees only during the training process and never again. Or take out a favorite toy from the “hidden”, which the dog will associate with training and subsequent play. When your pet understands the commands well, you can do without special tips.

    How to praise a dog correctly?

    The dog will associate treats and rewards with affection (voice, stroking) with correct behavior, only if the reinforcement occurs at the time the command is executed. Main mistake– praise with a delay, during which the pet performed some action not related to the command. For example, the “Come to me” command is being practiced: the dog should receive a treat on the way, as soon as it is at the owner’s feet. Incorrect - the dog came up and sat down (or turned around at his feet). In this case, the pet can associate the reward with its last action (twirled at the feet, sat down, leaned its front paws on the owner’s legs, licked the palm, etc.).

    When practicing some skills, it is impossible to praise the dog right away. In such cases, use a clicker - a small clicking keychain. First, the dog is taught to click (click - they gave something tasty, click - they gave it something tasty, without any commands). The pet quickly associates the click and good emotions. Now the click will be enough for the dog to understand that he is acting correctly.

    Basic commands that can and should be practiced at home

    Proceed from simple to complex - first learn the simplest commands, and then move on to those that not all dogs understand from the first training.

    To me- the most important command, without exaggeration, it can save a pet’s life. At first, the command is pronounced when the puppy is already running towards the owner. Then using attraction (show a toy or treat from afar). For the first time, the command “Come to me” is given from a short distance, literally a couple of meters. When the pet understands what's what, you need to gradually increase the distance in order to achieve the command even when the owner is in another room (i.e. the dog does not see the person). You should always call your dog in a firm but calm, positive voice. Never call your dog if you are going to do something unpleasant (cut his nails, scold him for a puddle, etc.).

    Sit- Another required skill. This command can be used instead when the dog needs to be stopped (for example, there is a road ahead). Training hunting dogs at home necessarily includes the “stand” command, but for city pets it is enough to be able to sit on command. The first time the command is pronounced, catching the moment when the puppy begins to sit down on its own. We repeat several times. Then we complicate the task by teaching the dog to sit on command (voice + gesture - vertically raised palm, see photo) when the owner demands it. We hold the treat between our fingers and show it to the dog, slightly extending the hand with the treat forward (do not lower your palm, the dog should not reach the treat). At the same time we say “Sit.” Perhaps the pet will try to jump towards the hand, spin around at the feet, wag its tail, etc. We stand like a monument, without moving, without changing our posture. When the dog gets tired of begging, it will sit in front of the hand, i.e. fulfills the command - praise!

    These are the two most important commands that the dog must carry out the first time, “unquestioningly”, in any mood and in any situation. Without mastering these skills, the dog should never be let off the leash during a walk!

    By the way, about the leash. After all, this is also a kind of skill! Definitely before your first walks. Walk around the apartment for at least 5 minutes three times a day. Do not allow the dog to pull you, you must control your pet. If the dog goes in the wrong direction, pull the leash briefly and lightly (two or three short tugs). This is a signal, not a compulsion! The pet should go voluntarily, and not be dragged along because he has no choice.

    It doesn’t matter that the puppy appeared in the house not so long ago, but just the sight of it causes tenderness. Emotions should not distract from the main thing - raising a pet from the first moments of meeting him. Not all inexperienced dog breeders know how to train a dog at home correctly. The dog handlers' recommendations offered below will help you understand the basics of a broad issue.

    Dog training carried out by owners usually pursues several goals. When starting a lesson, the owner must set himself a specific goal that he intends to achieve in the end. IN general view any training of a four-legged friend is based on the following “pillars” of training:

    During the learning process, motivational means are used, playing the role of a kind of gratitude for work. The maximum return from a four-legged animal is achieved if it is immediately rewarded following the action performed as ordered. Since training a dog correctly means not making excessive delays in actions, all attributes involved in training are prepared in advance.

    Deterrent methods are objects that attract attention. What are things used for that make a sharp sound - whistles, rattles from tin cans with stones, a bunch of keys. If the pet does not follow the owner's orders, it is excluded from deserved attention - praise, stroking. They send him to his place, pronouncing the order in a stern voice.

    When punishing a puppy, it is better to use the ignoring method, which is recognized as more effective than punishing with physical force. Spanking is regarded by the dog as a play signal.

    Since training a dog is considered a rather labor-intensive task, the owner can also motivate himself to the training process. It is important to realize that teaching a dog to behave properly is always easier than correcting behavioral deviations in the future.

    Preparing for training

    For the first lesson, prepare a collar with a leash and the four-legged dog’s favorite treat. In no case can food from the master's plate be considered as such. It may be appropriate for this. For picky eaters, you can purchase “sweets” at pet stores that are intended for training classes.

    At first, it is advisable to conduct classes in an area that is thoroughly familiar to the pet. But there should be no objects that distract attention. In unfamiliar territory, the puppy is given time to get comfortable.

    An important principle of training is the absence of strangers and animals during training lessons. This makes the task easier and allows the puppy to concentrate better.

    Commands for initial familiarization

    Training from the first minutes of mutual residence between the puppy and the owner is extremely necessary.

    With a well-mannered puppy, it is easier to organize walks and you don’t have to be upset by his pranks at home. First of all, it is important to train your pet to know and respond to its name, to respond not to the order “Come to me!”, to know the place.

    Before accustoming a dog to a nickname, they try to pronounce the name of the four-legged dog out loud more often in a tone in which favorable emotions can be heard. Regularly naming a nickname should serve as an incentive to develop a response to one’s own name. After the appearance of such a reflex, the pet must be thanked in the initial stages.

    Primary orders for training

    "Near". Since teaching a dog to walk next to you on a leash is just as important as the previous command, this is trained systematically, conducting 4-5 sessions.

    "Ugh". Means an order given to a dog when it needs to be distracted from picking up garbage. Completing the formulation allows you to protect the health of the four-legged animal and the mass of nerve cells of the owner.

    They begin to train endurance from the age of four months. This quality is useful in all training events with a pet and helps control the dog and develop its obedience.

    In addition, important commands in the first training lessons are the following, which they always try to get from the puppy: give, sit and lie down, stand, fetch, place, face.

    "Give". The command turns out to be useful for any trained dog. This technique is of particular importance for service guards, whose purpose in life is solely to protect their master.

    This team achieves not so much the ability to neutralize the attacker, but to release him upon arrest.

    "Place". The dog must know about the existence of its own corner in the home. And on the orders of the dog breeder, the obedient dog must immediately go there. The puppy can fall asleep anywhere, but he must know his own.

    "Aport." Using the wording, the service pets are sent to search the area. This allows them to make their walk more active.

    "Fas." This is a dangerous formulation; teaching it to a disobedient animal is strictly not recommended. Before training an adult dog with this command, it must diligently follow the commands noted above.

    These orders reflect the list of commands for the basic four-legged pet training course.

    Introduction to the elements of ammunition

    Since it is recommended to accustom a dog to a leash and collar when it reaches 1.5-2 months of life, taking the puppy home immediately starts the educational process. It is much easier for the pet to adapt to unusual objects of ammunition at this time. They are put on the baby after initial familiarization and after interest in them wanes.

    First, the ammunition is left on the small pet for a few minutes. At the same time, they try to distract the baby with a playful maneuver. Teaching moments are kept short but regular.

    Before you train your dog to use a leash, the animal should already be familiar with the collar. When the baby gets used to the idea of wearing the first one, you can move on to attaching another element - a leash. It is necessary to ensure that it hangs freely, trying to distract the four-legged one.

    Introducing to the place and booth

    Some people are interested in whether it is possible to train an adult dog and how to do it correctly. You can teach something, but not everything. But you will have to stock up on a lot of time and remarkable patience. Therefore, it is recommended to introduce your pet to the place from an early age. The main thing is to constantly control the puppy’s behavior and not allow him to be in the house wherever he likes.

    The owner’s task in this situation is to organize the place. You can place anything you like here - a pillow, rug, blanket or a special soft house. The puppy is familiarized with the place in advance. After falling asleep, the baby is transferred there every time. In this place, it is prohibited to perform manipulations that provoke and leave unpleasant memories in the pet’s memory - cleaning the ears, combing, for example, if he is not a fan of these actions. After games, all toys are returned back to this corner. We must try to convince the four-legged friend that this space is the most comfortable and safe of all in the apartment, belonging to him alone.

    If you plan to keep it outdoors, you need to know how to train your dog to use a kennel in the yard.

    You should not immediately put the dog on a chain. It is necessary to provide him with the opportunity to experience new living conditions himself and get used to them.

    You cannot immediately lock a puppy or an adult dog inside the kennel. This is how the animal may develop a phobia of dark spaces.

    It is necessary to select suitable weather conditions before accustoming an adult dog to a kennel or crate near the entrance to the home. For example, pouring rain will help teach your dog to go inside on his own.
    Whereas in the heat nothing will force the animal to do this.

    You have become the owner of a puppy and have no idea where to start raising your pet? Do you want to teach your older dog proper manners? After reading the tips experienced dog breeders, you will learn how to properly train a dog at home and not involve expensive dog handlers.

    At what age are dogs usually trained?

    Raising a dog should begin from the first day of your pet’s stay in your home. Waiting until the puppy reaches six months of age is a common mistake of novice dog breeders.

    For positive result should be adhered to three basic rules:

    1. Motivation. The training process should be encouraged. After executing a new command, the pet receives a reward - a granule of dry food or a piece of hard cheese;
    2. Duration. Intensive exercises can quickly tire a puppy - short periods of training should alternate with rest;
    3. Positive. Learning new commands should take place in game form. In case of failures, and in the first lessons they can appear constantly, on the puppy You can’t shout, much less hit .

    Within a short period of time, depending on the breed of dog and the intensity of training, the puppy will quickly learn basic commands.

    And remember: trusting and friendly relations between the owner and the dog is the main condition for quickly achieving the desired result.

    In this video, professional dog trainer Elena Voronina will talk about the intricacies of training dogs at home, how to achieve complete obedience:

    Where to start: first commands

    Let's start by recognizing an axiom that has been proven over the years - there are no stupid dogs. The owner’s desire to teach his pet new things, regularity of training and a positive atmosphere in classes will sooner or later yield results.

    Here's where to start, and which commands should be mastered first:

    • Nickname. You should come up with a nickname right away. When training, you should not decline the puppy's nickname. If it's Ben, then call the pet Benchik, Benyunya or Benechka not acceptable. When the dog runs up to you, pet him. The second way is to use a nickname and invite the puppy to eat;
    • "Ugh!". Once outside for the first time, the puppy will begin to explore a previously unknown environment and pick up trash. Using a leash, pull the dog away from unwanted objects while saying the command Ugh. Having heard the stern tone of the owner, and we remember that in Everyday life you communicate with your pet affectionately, the puppy will understand that this is not worth doing and will stop “vacuuming” the sidewalks;
    • "To me!". The owner shows the treat and says - to me! After the dog runs up, you need to give the food and repeat while petting him: to me. After 2-3 days of training, you should switch to the following scheme: start with pronouncing the nickname (attracting attention), and then comes the command - to me!

    The above commands are considered basic, and every dog should know them. Failure to comply with the owner's request on the street may result in Negative consequences threatening the puppy's health.

    How to train an adult dog?

    A puppy is like a piece of clay - the way its owner raises it, that’s how it will be in the future. Problems arise when training adult dogs.

    What nuances should you pay attention to:

    • Command complexity. Work with an adult should begin according to the principle “from simple to complex.” After easy commands “sit” and “lie down”, you can move to a higher level;
    • Promotion. By feeding your pet after each successful action, the dog develops conditioned reflex. After fixing the final result, the dog will fulfill the owner’s request not for food, but for praise and affection;
    • Relationship. Under no circumstances should you scold or hit your dog. Classes should be conducted at ease.

    An important point: the main thing is not to overdo it in your impulse. An adult dog, whose life had previously gone without special responsibilities, will be completely unaware of what is happening. The dog’s formed personality will protest the new demands, and training will require special patience from the owner.

    How to train a husky dog

    The Husky breed should not be considered a service dog. Yes, they are obedient and build relationships with their owner based on emotional contact with a person, but we will still note some features of their training:

    • Thinker. In general, huskies are easy to train. But they will obey only the “leader of the pack” - the head of the family. If you are not an authority for the people close to you, don’t expect understanding from the dog either;
    • Strictness. The command must be pronounced in a firm and confident voice. However, rigor should not be confused with rigidity.

    Otherwise, training is no different from raising other breeds. To successfully train a husky, you need to find a dog the right approach. Having reached this condition, the owner will be surprised at how quickly the dog has learned the commands and, as if playfully, happily carries them out.

    Parenting: basic mistakes

    Even if you are not going to participate in exhibitions or competitions, the dog should be trained.

    Let's call three main parenting mistakes, often made by inexperienced dog breeders:

    1. Aggression. Aggressive actions towards another person or dog are unacceptable. Solution: take her by the withers and press her firmly to the ground - make it clear that you are stronger and she needs to obey. In any case, you should not hit the dog;
    2. Communication. The dog must be socially educated. Communication with other dogs - required condition to form a correct perception of reality;
    3. Training. For no apparent reason, the dog, for the sake of the owner’s amusement, will not perform the same action repeatedly. Remember: a dog is a friend, not a servant.

    Special attention You should pay attention to your pet’s behavior at home: chewing shoes, jumping on curtains, sleeping on the owner’s pillow, etc. things are unacceptable.

    Do you know that:

    • The dog is able to remember and carry out more than a hundred commands;
    • The intelligence of certain breeds can be compared to that of a two-year-old child;
    • The tallest dog is the Great Dane;
    • The smallest dog is the Chihuahua;
    • The first dog to be in space is a two-year-old mongrel Laika;
    • Dogs do not have sweat glands; body temperature is regulated by sticking out their tongue;
    • As a self-medication in the summer, dogs may not eat for several days;
    • Using an electric collar for training is illegal in some countries.

    Having learned how to properly train a dog at home, you can start raising your pet yourself: a friendly voice and emotional contact, regularity of tasks and “tasty motivation” will do their job.

    By treating your pet as an equal, you can ensure that the animal will carry out the owner’s commands cheerfully and at ease.

    Puppy training video

    In this video, dog handler Artem Ronin will give a lesson in which he will show how initial training puppies, first steps to training:

    Such a long-awaited event in the house as the arrival of a puppy should not be spontaneous. To begin with, before such a serious step, you need to study the relevant literature, think about choosing a suitable breed, prepare for the training process, or better yet, take special courses for novice dog breeders.

    Basic rules of training

    Of course, each breed has its own specific methods and methods of training, but in total it is possible to determine a number general rules, which are relevant for any puppy.

    Teaching a small pet to be clean is not an easy task.

    To maintain general comfort in the house, when things remain intact and the rooms are not turned into a complete dog toilet, it is necessary to immediately accustom the dog to order. First of all, make it a rule to walk your animal outside, preferably not once, but at least 2-3 times a day. If the dog's breed is a mini version, then it is necessary to teach it to go to the toilet using a diaper or newspaper. You can do the same with ordinary small puppies. If the educational moment is a success, the child must be expressively and joyfully praised. That is, training dogs to be clean is very similar to raising small children, where the basis is the “carrot and stick method”.

    Not taking food from the table is a firm rule that must be followed unconditionally.

    First of all, the owner himself should not offer a piece of any food from the dinner table. But on the other hand, you need to deliberately leave food freely available in order to provoke the puppy to take it. If this happens, the dog must be punished, and this technique is repeated until the pet understands what they want from him.

    Knowing your place is a very important point in education.

    The territory in which the four-legged friend will live must be determined in advance and equipped accordingly. The proposed location should be isolated from drafts, made soft, comfortable and, preferably, raised 20-30 centimeters from the floor. In the future, as often as possible, indicate to the puppy where his place is, especially when he, bored, begins to violently jump on his owner and lick him with his tongue. Of course, such delight on the part of a friend is very flattering, but if the dog is a large one, then when it becomes an adult, when it meets, it will simply sweep away its owner. So it’s better to first indicate “place!” in a categorical form, and then go to your pet and express your feelings.

    Getting used to a collar and leash - this part of training, as a rule, does not cause any special problems.

    First, the dog is accustomed to a short leash. You can simply put it on and let your pet run around, then carefully take the end of the device in your hands and walk in the direction the animal wants. The next stage of training will be your desire to move in the chosen direction.

    Teach not to spoil things.

    This means immediately purchasing for pet special devices-toys. A damaged interior will not only anger the owner, but will also harm the puppy himself, because he may swallow a piece of something inedible. To wean off the “squabble” it is necessary to use the object that was attacked: the damaged slipper - hit with it. In this way of punishment, the concept “you cannot chew this particular slipper” is developed. By analogy, you should act with other objects. It is also not worth provoking the animal. If you leave the house, it is better to put all shoes and other things away in the closet. An excellent tool in the fight against dangerous fun is “Antigryzin”, which is sold in pet stores.

    It happens that a puppy tends to chew on a wall, thereby trying to compensate for the lack of calcium in the body. Regular chalk will help here; it can be given to growing dogs.

    Timely introduction to the world around you

    - the key to raising a real protector, and not a cowardly dog. After carrying out the necessary vaccination procedures, you must immediately accustom the animal to the street so that it has an idea of busy streets, forest life, steppe expanses and the inhabitants inhabiting these places.

    For certain breeds of animals, training can begin at one and a half months, but the most optimal age to start education – three months. The main thing is to remember that the prohibitions must be strict and tough, no concessions are allowed, otherwise the team "it is forbidden" will simply be ignored by the dog.

    Practicing basic commands at home

    Every self-respecting dog must know the basic list of command orders from its owner. There are few of them, and teaching a dog to follow orders is not that difficult.

    1. "To me" is one of the first commands that should be taught to a puppy. You need to stock up on treats in advance, which the dog will receive if everything is done correctly. The owner must accompany his order with an appropriate posture: squat down and spread his arms to the side. For a correctly performed action, the pet is rewarded with joyful praise and a sweet prize. It is necessary to teach a dog this command, first of all, for the safety of the animal itself; it must be performed flawlessly, automatically.
    2. "Sit"— the dog should have been hearing this order for four months already. Let's learn first correct landing, helping the pet take the required position. If the task is completed correctly, reward. When training, you can use a painful technique, for example, clapping with a leash, if the dog does not want to comply with the command. In the future, we gradually increase the distance from our pet so that he learns to follow orders during a walk.
    3. "Lie"— teaching this command is similar to the previous lesson. To do this, we sit the puppy next to the left leg, when ordered, we pull the leash down and at the same time press on the withers. For the correct execution of the task, do not forget to praise, pat on the back and treat with a treat. When the dog gets a little used to this command, the training should continue with the dog stretched forward. right hand, lowering her palm to her thigh.
    4. "Stand"— we sit the dog at the left leg, lift it under the belly with our hand and, in a standing position, reward him for his work. When training, special attention should be paid to endurance; the pet must learn to hold itself in a standing position. Under no circumstances should the dog take steps; this will be severely punished.
    5. "Near"- when the animal deviates to the side, pull on the leash and make it clear that the order received must be carried out. A sign of correct execution of the task is a weakened leash, which no longer needs to be pulled by the owner.
    6. "Place"- using the command "Lie" place the dog near the left leg, then place the necessary object at its paws and pronounce the following order in a commanding voice - "Place". Every failure to complete a task or delay is stopped by a menacing tug of the leash. You can check the degree of execution of the command on the street, for example, near a store, entering which you can observe how your dog behaves.
    7. "Forward"- one of the most difficult obedience skills. Practicing this action depends on the degree of understanding of the command "Lie", since, moving away to a certain distance, the pet must stop and lie down. The exercise is easier to consolidate if it is accompanied by a pleasant event. The distance gradually increases with each training session, and the leash is removed.
    8. "Aport"— the basis for presenting a retrieval item is the instinct of the future hunter for prey. It is recommended to start training with a ball or soft padding. During the game, the puppy first picks up an object, and the owner uses a leash to return the dog to himself, showing by his appearance that the target has been captured correctly. This command, when moving long distances, must be accompanied by another order - "Near".

    Having taught simple fetching skills, you should then complicate the training and invite the dog to fetch an object by overcoming a barrier or searching tall bushes. You need to start the next training with a leash, gradually letting the dog off it. Teach the command "Aport" It is also advisable to use other people’s objects, especially if it is a breed of fighting or hunting dog.

    1. "Ugh"— a ban on dirty or foreign things is primarily important for the dog’s health, but it is better to start training on this command later, around five months, when the pet has mastered all other skills. They are trained first on the terrain where it will first be scattered dog food, accompanying educational actions with tugging on the leash.
    2. Shooting trainingnecessary work in raising a puppy brought out of greenhouse conditions into a noisy, busy world, where claps of various origins are heard, fireworks explode and shots can be fired. It is necessary to teach the sharp click from a shot at a great distance, away from the animal, otherwise there is a high probability that the puppy will be too frightened and will simply not leave the apartment next time.

    All of the above types of commands are practiced together so that the pet does not forget already practiced skills.

    Owners of all dog breeds, from small terriers to impressive Caucasians, are faced with the difficult task of how to train their dog. Dogs are serious animals; it is required that the dogs obey their owner and unquestioningly follow orders. Competent, well-thought-out training is expected. By and large, the standard set of commands for training includes:

    1. “Come to me”, the most necessary command to help recall your pet;
    2. "Fu", a universal command, extremely useful under any circumstances;
    3. “Sit” is a frequently used necessary command in a dog owner’s daily arsenal;
    4. “Lie down” - less used than the previous one, but useful and easy for the animal;
    5. “Nearby” is simply irreplaceable for walking and teaching the dog discipline;
    6. “Place” - if the dog sleeps where it likes, the animal must know the place in the apartment and is there at the first order of the owner;
    7. “Give” is a relatively complex command, necessary primarily for guard dog breeds;
    8. “Fetch” - the command allows you to train the dog in terms of physical development, in terms of attentiveness on the ground.
    9. “Face” is considered a tough, serious command; it is permissible to begin studying if the dog unconditionally obeys the owner. To teach the command, it is better to invite a dog handler who is able to assess the dog’s readiness.

    Training by a master or family member

    The question of who trains the dog or is obliged to do so is complex and ambiguous. The only accurate and correct answer will be the statement that the training is carried out by a single person. For an animal, the presence of strangers or family members at the training site is a distraction that makes it difficult to concentrate on remembering commands. Remember, effective training can be carried out by people with a special character, with a large reserve of patience and developed willpower.

    If family members are not able to train the dog, it is permissible to give it to an instructor - a dog handler. Masters will be able to teach the animal different commands so that the orders remain internalized by the dog. The dog is called upon to carry out the orders of family members, regardless of the trainer. Remember, a dog has a circle of owners. If the animal is too friendly and follows the orders of strangers, this is bad; the dog is easy to take away.

    Rules on and off the training ground

    Training a dog correctly means following important points:

    • Do not repeat commands. It is permissible to give an order twice, otherwise the animal will not accept the owner’s commands the first time.
    • Mix up teams in places. For effectiveness, so that the dog listens to requests, exclude the possibility of simply memorizing training as an algorithm for constant actions in in the prescribed manner. Try to change the order of requests to effectively train the animal.
    • Don't be overzealous. Dogs, like people, get tired; excessive stress has a bad effect on training. Attention weakens, the animal reluctantly carries out orders. With systematic training in a tired state, it is easy to achieve the opposite effect.
    • Commands should not be given too often. Before a new approach, a pause is made for a few moments, otherwise the dog will begin to get confused.
    • Before training, it’s a good idea to walk the dog and give it some physical exercise. A slightly tired dog is less distracted during training.
    • If the dog obeys commands hesitantly or is afraid, most likely the trainer is treating the animal too harshly. Remember, dogs love affection, and with kind treatment they try harder.
    • Encouragement is important. A treat or praise is a great incentive for your pet. It is better to go out for training with a slightly hungry dog; a well-fed animal will ignore the treat, and it will be worse to think with a full belly.

    Training place

    The question of where to train your dog is extremely important. Training at home can give a not very impressive result - the pet will begin to perceive commands exclusively at home, while on the street behaving as it pleases. You are supposed to pick up the animal and take it outside. For the first training, choose quieter places so that your shaggy friend is not distracted by numerous stimuli in the form of passers-by and animals.

    With proper training, the dog will develop discipline and the reaction to distractions will disappear. It is already permissible to take her to crowded places. Training time is important. Initially, classes last 30-40 minutes so that the pet does not get too tired. Subsequently, the time increases to one and a half hours. It is better to do outdoor training two to three times a week; at home, train your pet during the day for 5-10 minutes.

    Training an adult dog - reality and fiction

    There is often an opinion that adult dogs cannot be trained. Of course, more difficulties are expected with raising an adult dog, but with due diligence the dog can be taught everything necessary. Shaggy friends love people good attitude ready to serve and teach, to carry out commands.

    When training an adult dog, much more effort is required, but the result remains positive. The main thing is not to overdo it and remember to reward the animal with treats or praise. Dog handlers advise not to mix types of rewards. Either the first or the second. Training an adult dog requires more time and more training.

    Dog breeds and training

    When deciding to get a puppy and start training themselves, people think about dog breeds. Does breed affect training, is the most trainable dog bred? Dog handlers say that a lot depends on the owner. If a person is determined to raise an animal, he will succeed in any case. Scientists have compiled a rating of animals, which examined the degree of loyalty to training.

    Based on data from dog trainers, a list of breeds has been compiled. The indicator of command memorization was used as an indicator. The most poorly trained dogs: chow chow breeds, bulldogs, Afghan hound. The top ten breeds for training include retrievers, poodles, German shepherds, papillons, shelties, Doberman Pinschers and Rottweilers. The most trained breed was the border collie. The breed was bred as an assistant to farmers; it soon turned out that its trainability was superior to other breeds. In addition to their natural intelligence, Border Collies have an extreme ability to work and are unable to sit still.

    It is worth remembering that success does not depend on the breed of dogs, but on personal qualities. There are bad dogs from trained breeds, but more often people are to blame for improper training. You should not get a pet if a person is not sure that he can handle raising and training.
