What are the benefits of using onion peel for hair?

    Benefits of procedures

The composition of onion peels includes a whole set of biologically active components, an important place among which is occupied by the particularly valuable substance quercetin. This is a simple natural remedy:

    • promotes the renewal of scalp skin cells,
    • improves blood circulation,
    • strengthens and nourishes hair roots,
    • normalizes the condition of the sebaceous glands,
    • moisturizes and restores hair structure,
    • improves their condition and appearance,
    • promotes growth,
    • fights fungal diseases of the scalp,
    • relieves itching, flaking and other unpleasant sensations,
    • normalizes metabolism.

Hair health first of all begins with the health of the scalp. As I already wrote, onion peel has anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, antifungal, wound healing, antiallergic effects, increases the protective properties of the skin and is widely used for treatment skin diseases, as well as for rejuvenation.

    Result of application

As a result of using formulations with onion peels, hair becomes lush, silky, shiny, manageable and strong, gains volume, elasticity, and makes combing easier. A pleasant bonus is that by simply rinsing with a decoction of the husk just once a week, the hair will acquire a rich golden hue, which shimmers in the sun.

    We solve problems

Thanks to this range of effects, the husk is used for:

    • oily hair,
    • weakened and damaged hair,
    • sparse and fine hair,
    • dandruff treatment,
    • for hair loss, especially at the initial stage.

As we have seen, onion skins are good and most importantly - accessible means for hair restoration and care. There is nothing complicated in its use. The easiest way is to rinse your hair with a decoction of the husk after washing. The decoction is also used for rubbing into the scalp. The husk can be used to prepare masks and lotions for hair care.

The husk is not an allergen and is well tolerated. But if there are other components in the composition, then before use you should conduct a tolerance test to be sure that it will not harm you.

Most often, onion peels are used to give hair a golden hue, as well as for hair coloring. The advantage of this product is its complete naturalness, in contrast to industrial dyes, which negatively affect the hair, especially with frequent dyeing. In addition, the husk can be used to color gray hair.

Another important advantage of this product is that it not only dyes hair, but also restores and heals it.

    Hair rinses

It is important to pay attention to the following: since the husk contains coloring components, you should be careful with the concentration of the rinse liquid and, depending on the result obtained, increase or decrease the amount of husk for a given volume of water. You can also increase the concentration if, after boiling, boil the husk for 20-30 minutes.

Rinses are used after washing your hair and are not washed off with water. Hair should be dried naturally.

    First way

Pour half a glass of onion peel into 2-3 liters. hot water, bring to a boil. Remove from heat, cover with a lid, warm and leave until cool. Strain.

    Second way

    Strengthening and stimulating hair growth

We can also rub infusions and decoctions into the hair roots. For rubbing into the scalp, decoctions and infusions of onion peels are used. pure form and collected, but at a higher concentration than when rinsing. In addition, rubbing has a more pronounced therapeutic effect.

I wrote in an article about how to prepare a decoction or infusion of onion peels for hair, as well as for internal use. There you can read recipes for its use to treat various diseases.

    Dyeing fabric with onion skins

Before dyeing the canvas with onion skins, try it on a small piece of fabric. We dye the entire fabric at one time. The process is labor-intensive - for those who like to experiment with natural dyes.

    Tools and equipment:
    - You need natural fabric (linen, calico, chintz, satin, poplin, cotton). Synthetic fabrics are practically not stained with onion skins.
    - Container for the solution - preferably not enameled. Ideal - a tin bucket. A lid is required.
    - Reserve capacity - for folding the husks
    - Onion peels - when dry and slightly crushed (without rot) should fill the container ¾ full.
    - Tongs - or something with which you can periodically remove the fabric from the container.
    - A sieve, colander or slotted spoon to catch the husks.

    Dyeing process:
Stage one - soaking. Carefully peel the onion skins. Select rot. Place the husks in a reserve container and cover with water at room temperature. Lightly press the husks. Let the husks soak for three hours.

Stage two - boiling. Pour the onion infusion from the reserve into the main container, bring to a boil and simmer over low heat with the lid closed for about an hour.

Stage three - immersion. Strain the broth through a sieve (colander) or carefully remove all the husks with a slotted spoon, placing them in a reserve container. At the same time, the concentrate will drain from the husk. It needs to be poured back into the broth. Check again to see if there are any husks left in the main container. If the remaining husk sticks to the fabric, then irreducible yellow spots secured.
Add table salt to the broth at the rate of 1 tablespoon of salt per 1 liter of water. Salt is needed to improve the deposition of the dye on the fabric fiber.
Immerse the fabric in the broth. Try to calculate so that you can dye all the fabric that will be used for the planned doll or product at once. Subsequent cookings give a paler shade, and a uniform color will not be obtained.
Try to ensure that there are as few wrinkles as possible when tucking the fabric into the container. It is convenient to fold it like an accordion.
Cover the container with a lid. Bring the broth to a low boil.

Stage four - cooking. You need to cook for at least 2 hours. All this time, it is necessary to periodically (every 10-15 minutes) remove the fabric using tongs and re-arrange it like an accordion, being careful not to repeat the old folds in any way. If this is not done, the folds will be painted worse and will look like light or even white stripes.

Stage five - drying. When you consider the fabric to be boiled, you need to carefully remove it from the pre-cooled broth (40-50 ° WITH). Straighten the fabric and hang to dry. Squeeze with gentle movements. It is not advisable to rinse.

Stage six - consolidation. The coloring is not very stable, it is advisable to fix it. To do this, use a strong solution of vinegar essence, simply wiping the fabric with it or dipping it in it for a short time. After treatment with vinegar, it is recommended to iron it.

Onion peels can be replaced with turmeric (saffron). The technology is the same. The color turns out orange. Wool and silk are dyed better, cotton and linen are worse. You need to take saffron 5% of the weight of the fabric. When cooking, also add salt.

Well, if you don’t want to bother with onion skins, then you can buy one that’s already tanned and use it for sewing attic dolls or tildes.

Onion peel not only gives your hair a wonderful golden-brown hue, but also has a beneficial effect on the condition of the hair, heals the scalp, strengthens the hair follicles and promotes their rapid growth. Hair after dyeing with onion peels acquires a wide variety of shades, depending on the original color.

If you have light brown hair and you want to give it a dark chestnut hue, you should wipe your hair every day with a strong decoction of onion skins: gradually it will acquire the desired color. If you have blonde hair and you, not wanting to radically change their color, just want to give them a golden hue, wipe your hair every day with a weak decoction of onion peels.

Natural hair dyes have been used for a long time, since the times when hair was not yet harmless - almost all cosmetology products were natural. Now natural hair dyes are more relevant than ever - in our age of high technology, we have to worry not only about beauty, but also about safety.

    Herbal hair dyes

Hair coloring was in use long before mankind invented chemical compositions. There was no need to tell our grandmothers what dyes there were. Products such as henna, basma, and herbal decoctions that have a coloring effect have been popular in ancient times.

We can safely say that vegetable hair dyes have not lost their relevance today, since, while changing the color of the hair, such dyes do not harm it at all. On the contrary: thanks to natural dyes, hair acquires healthy shine, softness and obedience. Special care for hair dyed with natural remedy, is not required, which cannot be said about chemically dyed hair.

Benefits of onion peels for hair

Onion peel is a remedy that was known to our grandmothers and even great-grandmothers and was actively used by them. Why did women love him so much?

Onion peels contain components that accelerate blood circulation and thereby significantly improve blood supply to hair follicles. As a result, they begin to receive much more nutrients, work actively and become stronger. And that is why husk-based products are often used for alopecia, that is, hair loss.

Since the follicles begin to work better, they are able to fully supply the hair with everything it needs, which contributes to its more active growth, as well as a significant improvement in its condition. Curls become shiny, moisturized, strong and strong. Onion peels can be used to normalize the functioning of the sebaceous glands and thereby solve the problem of increased oily hair.

This product is used by many to combat dandruff, and it is very effective, since, firstly, it cleanses the skin well, and secondly, it has antiseptic, antifungal (fungus is the main cause of this disease), antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. And thirdly, do not forget about normalizing the functioning of the sebaceous glands, and this is also important when eliminating dandruff.

Who is suitable for coloring with onion peels?

In principle, almost anyone can dye their hair using onion peels. But the result will be more obvious and noticeable if the hair is light. Those with dark curls may hardly notice the effect. All that will be visible after the procedure is a slight reddish tint, which is especially noticeable under sunlight. But this result is also good.

Also, the use of such a product would be appropriate in cases where the hair is weakened, depleted, and excessively oily. In this case, you can strengthen your curls and make them more attractive. You can also use the husk for dandruff.

    Hair coloring rules

There are several general rules hair coloring, regardless of the choice of dye.

    1. Natural dyes can only be used on undyed hair. If you apply a natural dye to hair that has already been dyed with a colorator, you can get the most unexpected color. The same, by the way, applies to hair that has been subjected to perm. Such hair instantly “grabs” the dye, so although it can be applied, its effect on the hair should be minimal: leave it on for a few minutes and rinse immediately.
    2. Dyeing hair with onion skins, as well as other natural dyes, as opposed to chemical ones, should only be done on immaculately clean hair. “Forgot” the styling product on your hair? Expect unpredictable results.
    3. Rinsing hair after coloring with natural dyes is a labor-intensive task. You can finish it only when the water flowing from your hair becomes completely transparent.
    4. Natural dyes are unlikely to be suitable for those who are used to frequently changing their look. The fact is that many of them are quite persistent and it is not so easy to wash them off: you have to wait until the dye comes off the hair itself, which can take more than one month. Even highlighting during this time will be impossible for you.
    5. Natural dyes can be affected by the environment. For example, hair dyed with henna may turn green when exposed to sea water. So be careful: do not dye your hair with henna before going to the sea.

    Shades given by onion peels

Not only does this valuable product act as a hair dye, but you can also adjust the intensity of the desired color or shade:

    • Golden. To obtain and fix it on your own hair, you will need to properly make a decoction. To do this, put water with 50 g of husk on low heat. It should simmer for about a quarter of an hour. When the broth has cooled to room temperature, it needs to be filtered and poured into a clean container. The finished product must be treated on dry and clean hair every day. There is no need to wash it off.
    • Chestnut with a bronze tint. To make the effect stronger, it is important to take more raw materials and boil it longer. For example, you can make a decoction of 0.5 tbsp. onion peels and a glass of water. It should be simmered under the lid for about half an hour.
    • Ginger. This shade requires regular use of the prepared product for 21 days. Its concentration should be slightly less than in the previous case. You need to take 30 g of husk, 2/3 tbsp. water and boil for up to 40 minutes.
    • Delicate chestnut. For brown-haired women, this shade will come in very handy. It will add a new twist to their own hair color. To prepare a coloring solution, you should take onion peels into a clean liter jar and pour them into triple the volume of water. The broth must be cooked for at least half an hour, then allowed to cool. The strained dye must be poured into a clean container.

    2. When the mass has cooled, it can be applied to the hair. It is most convenient to use a cotton sponge as a handy tool.
    3. If you don't achieve the desired result the first time, don't be upset.
    4. The procedure can be repeated daily until the color of your hair is exactly as expected.

    How to enhance the effect

It is also quite common to dye hair with onions and oak bark. The combination of these two plants contains even more useful properties, which can work real miracles with hair. This tandem deprives the curls of oiliness, but does not dry it out. Fights hair fragility and dullness. Moreover, exposing the hair to a mixture of these plants promotes increased hair growth.

    • To get a more concentrated product and, accordingly, a rich shade, after boiling, you can let the broth brew for two or three hours, and it is advisable to wrap the container and place it in a warm place.
    • If you are not satisfied with the resulting tone, do not worry, because it is easy to get rid of. Just wash your hair thoroughly several times using shampoo.
    • Some complain that after the procedure, the curls acquire an unpleasant and very persistent odor. How to get rid of it? If you wash your hair, the color will wash off almost immediately. But you can remove the “aroma” from the raw materials themselves. To do this, during the preparation process, lay it out on fresh air and leave for several days. The smell will be removed almost completely.
    • The husk can be used not only for coloring, but also to strengthen and improve the condition of curls. To do this, simply use the decoction as a rinse two or three times a week after shampooing. In addition, it is advisable to rub it into the scalp.
    • You should not store the finished decoction; it may simply lose most of its properties. It is advisable to prepare it immediately before each procedure.
