    raglan shoulder strap knitting, knitting from the neck (top to bottom)

    In one of the knitting communities, I saw a post about a children's sweater knitted using exactly this method. The lady has been knitting like this for a long time, so for her it’s a matter of course, but for me it’s not. I mastered the raglan top a long time ago. In the SM there is a somewhat excellent MK on this subject, but in the raglan-epaulet search, the search returns only posts where this method is used, but how is still unclear (((

    I decided to figure it out... it turned out a little chaotic, but suddenly it’s useful not only for me

    Let's start with the pattern...

    An shoulder strap is something that lies on the shoulder and is knitted not separately, but with the entire product from the neckline.
    Cast on as many stitches for the neck as needed. We divide the shoulder straps into the back and shelves (in front) and between them, what width do you need. On both sides of each shoulder strap we make increases in each row. It turns out not four raglan lines, as usual, but two along the shoulders. In this way we knit to the required shoulder length. Then we knit parts of the back and shelves without adding loops. And we add loops on both sides inside the shoulder strap, which now becomes a sleeve. We add one third of the height of the head of the sleeve in each row, the next third of the height one loop at a time in two rows, and another third we add one loop each both from the side of the sleeve and on the front and back.
    Having knitted the required depth of the armhole, we divide the knitting: we collect the loops of the sleeves on an auxiliary thread. And we continue to knit the fronts and back as with a regular raglan on top. We'll work on the sleeves later.
    The height of the rim of the proposed sleeve must be divided into three parts.

    Pleasant and beautiful, delicate and unusual things are obtained using raglan sleeves. Let's talk about it, what it is and what it is eaten with. I’ll tell you in detail so that even beginner knitters can understand. The term "raglan" refers to a special type of sleeve cutting, in which the sleeve is modeled together with the shoulder of the back and front.

    Types of raglan

    Depending on the shape of the armhole line:

    • Standard or standard raglan- the armhole line runs under the front and back neckline a few centimeters lower. Basically, this value ranges from one to five centimeters. This armhole line smoothly falls from top to bottom and is interrupted by the front and back neckline.
    • Zero raglan - with this type of raglan, the armhole line extends from the apex of the front neckline and reaches the apex of the back neckline, also smoothly descending from top to bottom. IN in this case everything looks as if the armhole line smoothly adjoins the neckline.
    • Semi-raglan - here the armhole line extends from the middle of the shoulder line. It turns out that in the shoulder area, between the neckline and the armhole, there is a gap.
    • Shoulder raglan or raglan - shoulder strap- the shoulder line runs parallel to the armhole line, smoothly turning into the armhole line like a set-in sleeve.
    • Fantasy raglan- the lower part of this armhole is similar to the armhole line, like a set-in sleeve. The upper part of this armhole is free-form, depending on your imagination, which is why it is called fantasy. It can also go into a yoke.

    Sleeve shape:

    • Sharp or steep with different armhole designs.
    • Soft and smooth.

    By number of sleeve seams:

    • Sleeves with one seam.
    • Sleeves sewn with two seams.
    • Sleeves with many seams, from three or more.

    Description of the principles of raglan knitting from top to bottom

    Before we begin to analyze the progress of work with you, let's decide on the knitting density and calculation of the loops required for the right size products. To begin, we will knit a sample in the form of a square, with a side equal to ten centimeters. Now we count the number of loops that we have in the row. Let's say we have thirty loops in a row, divide them by ten centimeters and it turns out that we have three loops in one centimeter. Here is some simple mathematics that will help us in further calculations.

    The most important measurement for this knitting method is the neck circumference. We take this measurement at the base of the neck, closer to the shoulders. My circumference is thirty-six centimeters, which means that in order for the product to have a neck circumference of thirty-six centimeters, I need to cast three times as many loops on the knitting needles, since in one centimeter, according to previous calculations, we got three loops. You may get a different number, calculate using the following formula: multiply the neck circumference by the number of loops in one centimeter of the sample. Using this formula, it turns out that for my product I will cast on one hundred and eight loops.

    All these loops must be divided into front, back, sleeves and raglan lines. Since you and I are just learning how to knit raglan sleeves, our raglan line will be the simplest with just one loop. The raglan line is the border separating the raglan sleeves from the front and back knitted product. This border runs along the front and back surfaces of the raglan, which means that we will have four raglan lines in total, one loop for each. In total, it turns out that four loops out of one hundred and eight will go to raglan lines, that is, one hundred and four loops remain.

    We distribute the loops as follows, even if you have a different number of loops, we count it this way: we divide all the loops into eight parts, for me it turns out to be thirteen. We take one part at a time onto the sleeves. And three parts for the front and back. The pattern of distribution of loops in a circle is approximately the following: one raglan loop, thirteen sleeve loops, again one raglan loop, thirty-nine back loops, one raglan loop, thirteen sleeve loops, one raglan loop, thirty-nine front loops.

    In the future, when we learn how to knit a simple raglan, if you think about knitting a patterned raglan line, take some recommendations. Remember that when distributing stitches, you need to take into account the repeat of the pattern you have chosen for the raglan line. In order for the drawing to be preserved, we calculate the loops in some details, while maintaining their original number. It happens that the product gathers in a fold at the front or pulls at the back. To avoid this problem you need to calculate the number of loops for the neck exactly.

    Knitting a neckline for a product with raglan sleeves

    We have already done the calculations of the loops, let's start knitting the neckline in elongated rows. You should start working with shortened circular knitting needles or double knitting needles, and later, when a certain number of stitches are added during knitting, it is better to switch to regular circular knitting needles. Prepare some tools for yourself in order to mark the border of the raglan line. Let it be special loops or rings, or simple pins, or even a thread of a different color, that is, what you have on hand.

    So let's get started! On the knitting needles, as we found out earlier, we cast on one hundred and eight loops. We knit all the loops with knit stitches, and in the reverse rows we knit them with purl loops. Let's start by knitting one empty row in the round, that is, we connect the row into a circle and knit it. This is an empty row only because it is not considered a starting row; it is knitted to secure the knitting needles in the loops and make it easier to start knitting. Another little trick, when I knit in the round, I always do this: cast on one more stitch and knit the first and last stitch together. With this method, the boundaries of the beginning and end of the circle are not visible and it is easier to work. Further knitting will be done in parts, according to the following principle.

    First row: make the first mark, indicating the beginning of knitting. We knit five knit stitches for the left sleeve. We make one yarn over on the knitting needle, make a mark again, thus indicating the future raglan line. We knit one front raglan loop, then yarn over the knitting needle. We knit thirty-six loops for the back. Now we repeat everything in a mirror image: yarn over, put a mark, one loop of the raglan line, knit five facial loops for the right sleeve. Unfold the knitting.

    Second row: knit five purl loops of the right sleeve, one purl raglan loop. Yarn over a knitting needle, thirty-six back loops, yarn over, purl. One loop of the raglan line, yarn over from the previous row, knitted with a purl loop. Five loops for the left sleeve. Rotate the knitting one hundred and eighty degrees.

    Third row: we knit six loops for the left sleeve. Yarn over and knit one raglan loop. Yarn over a loop onto a knitting needle, then knit thirty-eight back loops. Then we yarn over the knitting needle again, knit one front raglan loop, yarn over again and complete the row with six loops for the right sleeve. Unfold the knitting.

    Fourth row: we knit ten loops of the right sleeve, yarn over the previous row, knit with a purl loop. Then we knit one raglan loop, again we knit the yarn over with a purl loop, then thirty-eight loops for the back, also knitting the yarn over with a purl loop. We knit one raglan loop, the already familiar yarn over from the previous row, with a purl loop. We complete the row like this: six loops of the left sleeve, and then we include four more purl loops of the left sleeve. We unfold the knitting.

    Fifth row : we knit eleven facial loops of the left sleeve, make a yarn over, then one raglan loop. Yarn over the knitting needle again, knit forty back stitches, yarn over again. We knit another loop for the raglan line, yarn over, and complete the row with eleven loops of the right sleeve. Again we put four more knit stitches on the right sleeve into the work. We unfold the knitting.

    Sixth row: We knit fifteen loops of the right sleeve, yarn over the previous row, knit with a purl loop. Then one raglan loop is replaced by a yarn over, knitted with a purl loop. We knit forty loops for the back, again yarn over, knitted with a purl loop. One raglan stitch followed by a yarn over, purled. We complete the row with eleven loops of the left sleeve, also including four more loops of the left sleeve.

    Now all the loops of the sleeve are included in the work. Next, we attach to the work the loops of the front raglan lines and the loops for the front neckline in exactly the same way as the six rows described earlier. When all the loops are knitted, close the circle and knit with the main pattern. Add loops near the raglan lines in every second row.

    The method of knitting the neckline in long rows allows you to avoid troubles when knitting. Troubles such as: bubbles in the front, poor fit. It happens that when knitting a regular neckline with a raglan sleeve, the product pulls back, causing discomfort when wearing the product. This method allows you to avoid this too.

    In general, the neck line consists of the upper part of the front, the upper part of the back and the top of the sleeves. The neckline at the back looks like a straight line, but the line of the sleeves is a curved line, it is knitted from three to four parts, into which the upper line of the sleeve is mentally divided. The front neckline is also a curved line. The middle of the neck for an adult is marked with four centimeters, which we close in the center of the front of the neck. In the future, on each side of the center, we divide the loops into three parts; if this division does not equally divide the loops, then we assign the remainder to the first part from the center. Next, we divide each part into groups: the first part from the center belongs to threes, the second to twos, and the third to ones.

    Let's look at knitting a neckline for the back. It is necessary to knit with two back raglan lines, gradually incorporating the loops of the sleeves and the front part into the work. When all the loops are included in the work, their number should be equal, both on the front and on the back. Remember that while you are knitting the back, you should add loops only along the back raglan lines, and knit the front ones without adding. In order for the number of loops to be the same, you need to recalculate the required number of loops. To the front loops, add the number of loops, how many parts you have, by which the number of sleeve loops is divided. And from the number of back loops, subtract the number of loops into which the sleeve line is divided. In practice, it usually turns out that the number of parts into which the sleeve line is divided is the number of steps for which all the loops of the sleeve are included in the main work.

    Let's adjust our initial loop calculations. Initially we distributed thirteen loops for the sleeves. And thirty-nine loops for the back and front. Now we divide the thirteen loops of the sleeve into three more parts, resulting in four loops and one loop remaining. Remembering the rule that we add the last loop to the first part, then the layout of loops for the sleeve is as follows: five loops, four loops and four loops. For the back the following math: thirty-nine loops minus three loops (since there are only three sleeve parts), you get thirty-six loops. And for the front, on the contrary, we add three loops, we get forty-two loops. For the middle of the front neck, taking into account our density of loops, it will be necessary to close four centimeters multiplied by three loops, for a total of twelve loops. Then from the forty-two loops of the neck we subtract twelve loops in the middle of the neck, we get thirty loops. We divide them in half, since they will be located on both sides of the center, it turns out that there are fifteen loops each. We will divide this number of loops, as agreed, into three groups, we get five loops.

    Further, following all our calculations, the entire pattern of distribution of loops on one side of the center of the neck will look like this: twice three loops, three times two loops, three times one loop. You can see all this in more detail in the diagram.

    Successful and correct calculations will help you when knitting. You won’t have to unravel and redo it several times, you will save your time and create your own little masterpiece that will delight you and your loved ones. Good luck in all your endeavors!

    In contact with

    Let's learn how to knit raglan sweaters from the top, quickly and beautifully.
    The threads can be anything, either plain or sectional, depending on your taste!
    My strings are like this

    I will knit for my 9 year old son

    First you need to calculate the loops for the neck -
    1-knit a sample and count how many loops are in one centimeter, I have 2.5 loops per 1 cm
    2-then we measure the neck, in the place where the collar is planned, for me it is 28 cm
    3-now we make calculations for the sprout (I say right away, girls, don’t be scared, this is necessary!!!)

    With a knitting density of 2.5 loops per 1 cm and a neck circumference of 28 cm, you need to cast on 70 loops on the knitting needles. (2.5 x 28) Each raglan strip consists of 2 loops. The remaining loops are divided into three equal parts - back, front, sleeves.
    For me it is 62: 3 =20+20+22

    We divide the resulting parts into 20 front, 20 back and 22 sleeves, which means 11 loops for each.

    But our neckline is deeper on the front than on the back, so we need to make an adjustment.

    1) so that the sleeve is not wide, you need to narrow it by 1.5 cm, while increasing the back and front. This means we multiply 2.5 (density) by 1.5 = 3 loops, which means that only 8 loops need to be added to the sleeve. and the front and back will become wider by 3 loops, so the back will be 23 and the front will be 23

    2) the sleeve loops are knitted in four steps and by the time all the sleeve loops are knitted, the number of back and front loops should be the same. To do this, it is necessary to take into account the loops that are added along the back of the raglan lines. For example, if the loops of each sleeve are knitted in 4 steps, then 4 loops will be added to each raglan line of the back, which means the number of loops on the back will increase by 8. Therefore, you need to calculate so that at the beginning of work the front is wider than the back 8 loops. In my example, you need to subtract 4 loops from the number of back loops and add them to the front loops.

    Then I will have 19 loops on the back, and 27 on the front.

    4-now you can knit, starting to cast on loops on the back, knit back and forth, gradually adding loops, I have 19 stitches on the back,

    then loops on the raglan - 2, be sure to yarn over before and after the raglan loops!!!

    then we move on to the sleeves, gradually adding 3,2,2,1 for me (we distribute the loops in descending order and in 4 steps!!!)

    again loops on raglan - 2,

    then add loops on the front 1,1,1,1,2,3 and central 9 loops. (We distribute the loops in increasing order and in 7 steps!!!)

    The whole sprout is knitted, now we knit it in the round.

    We knit the yoke to the height of the armhole, you can apply it to your blouse, you can measure it, but then you will need to distribute the loops on additional knitting needles.
    Important!!! We knit one row by making yarn overs between raglan loops, we knit the second row by knitting this yarn over, i.e. from the wrong side of the row together

    I got 18 cm to the armhole, now we leave the sleeve loops on separate knitting needles

    and like this on the model

    How many centimeters to knit raglan can be seen in the table, but it is still advisable to try it on a model in order to know exactly how much to knit to the armhole!!!

    Knit to the desired length

    I'm switching to rubber bands

    when the elastic band is connected, we begin to close the loops according to this video

    I did the same in pictures
    I just knitted the first loop of knits, then the trace goes from the inside out, in front of it we make a yarn over from ourselves

    knit a purl loop

    pull the yarn over through this loop

    then the first knit loop is pulled through purl

    trace of the loop of faces, in front of it we make a yarn over to ourselves

    knit a knit loop

    we stretch this knitted face through the yarn over

    then we pull the loop remaining from the first pull through the knitted loop

    and so on all the loops..

    and like this on the model

    Let's move on to the sleeves:

    we throw the loops onto the stocking needles (to knit without a seam, in the round), tie a thread and lift the loops in the resulting seam so that we don’t have a hole, I got 4 additional loops

    then we need to cut them down, through a row

    this is how the path will turn out

    http://tamica.ru/page/kalkuljator-ravnomernogo-dob...li-ubavlenija-petel-obnovilsja
    Or you can calculate it yourself, I really don’t know if this is correct, but I do it myself (the main thing is that it turns out):
    1) we need to count how many loops there are on the fishing line, after decreasing additional loops 66p
    2) then we measure the sleeve to the bottom 28cm and you can immediately subtract the length of the elastic from this length 4cm = 24cm
    3) measure the wrist 15 cm, multiply cm by the number of loops in 1 cm -2.5, we get the required number of loops on the wrist 38p
    4) from the loops on the fishing line we subtract the loops on the wrist 66p - 38, we get how many loops we need to remove 28p
    5) divide the remaining length of the sleeve by the number of loops on the wrist and get after how many centimeters we should decrease the loops, convert them into rows of 24 cm: 28p = 0.8cm and it turned out that after 3 rows we need to make decreases (rows of decreases are also counted)

    We knit the sleeve to the desired length, switch to elastic and close the loops in the same way as on the body of the sweater.

    knit the second one in the same way

    Now let's move on to the collar:

    tie a thread anywhere, on my back, in front of the sleeve and start casting on loops

    Raglan is a sweater with a special cut of sleeves that are integral with the back and front. It is named after the British commander who tried so hard to hide the hand he lost in battle. Today, this method of knitting has become popular due to the absence of seams. How to knit a neckline with knitting needles in this case? Use the instructions below.

    Methods of knitting raglan from the neck with knitting needles

    Most knitting publications suggest using the bottom-up method to create raglan, but doing it from the neckline is much more convenient. As a result, the product has no seams, so there is no need to waste time sewing parts together. In addition, you can change the length of the sweater, because it is very easy to unravel its lower part. For these reasons, the method is popular. The method of knitting raglan with knitting needles from the neck has 3 options for connecting all parts of the product:

    1. A narrow line made of one loop, relative to which an increase is made on both sides.
    2. Wide stripe of 3 knits. Increases are also made at the edges.
    3. The widest strip in the form of braids, plaits, hemstitches or other relief patterns.

    Advantages of the method

    A significant advantage is the lack of seams, which is especially important for children's clothing, which should not chafe. As a result, the time required for production is reduced, because there is no need to sew together individual elements. Not a large number of Due to the threads being knitted in a circle, it is easy to unravel the product and, if necessary, change its length in any direction. When unraveling, the yarn can be reused. The disadvantage is the large number of loops involved in the work. In addition, not all patterns can be made in the round.

    How to calculate loops for raglan

    Before you start knitting raglan with knitting needles from the neckline, you need to calculate the number of loops. First you need to measure the neck circumference: for women's clothing size 48 this value is 36 cm. Another necessary value required to calculate the raglan top with knitting needles is the knitting density. To measure it, you need to make a sample of approximately 35-40 loops 15 cm high. The pattern in which the product will be made is taken. The sample must be wetted, dried and steamed, then allowed to rest. Next, use a ruler to calculate the number of loops per 1 cm of fabric.

    As an example, the instructions on how to calculate raglan knitting on top take a knitting density of 2.5. Taking this value into account, you can calculate the initial number of loops - you need to multiply 2.5 by 36, i.e. neck circumference. The result is 90. This value is then divided into the following percentage:

    • 45% - in front;
    • 35% – back;
    • 10% - for each sleeve.

    From the total number of loops you need to subtract those that will fall on 4 raglan lines. It turns out 90-4x1 = 86. If the stripes consist of 2 loops, then 4 needs to be multiplied by 2. As a result, the calculation comes down to the following:

    • 86 x 0.45 = 38 p. on the front;
    • 86 x 0.35 = 30 p. - on the back;
    • 86 x 0.1 = 9 p. - for each sleeve.

    Step-by-step instructions with diagrams and description of work - photo

    In addition to the instructions themselves on how to knit raglan with knitting needles from the neckline, you will need several tools. To ensure comfortable work, prepare the following:

    • several pairs of circular knitting needles of different numbers and hosiery needles for making sleeves without seams;
    • markers for marking parts;
    • yarn, preferably wool with the addition of acrylic or mohair;
    • row counter, necessary for circular knitting.

    Raglan top knitting for women

    Presented as an example Women's sweater Size 48. As calculated above, the initial number of loops is 90. Complete the first 2 rows as follows:

    1. Knit only with knit stitches, join into a circle.
    2. Make another auxiliary front row. Use safety pins, markers or thread to mark the position of the raglan lines and the middle of the front.
    1. Start knitting from the left side of the back like this - a raglan loop, a yarn over, 2 knitted loops and a third one, removed with a wrap.
    2. Remove the loop with the wrap, knit the next 2, yarn over and again 2 raglan loops, picking up the second increase from the broach. Again, after 2 loops, remove 3 with wrap.
    3. Pull the wrap around the first stitch and knit as follows - 2 knit stitches, yarn over, raglan line of 2 stitches, yarn over again, back, 2 knit stitches, pulling up the wrap and knitting it together with the loop.
    4. Continue knitting like this, alternating the front and back rows, while in each subsequent row you put 3 stitches of sleeves into work.
    5. Having reached the 7th row, knit to the raglan line of the front part.
    6. Purl row 8, knitting the last 3 stitches to the front line, which is even with the back.

    Then knitting comes with the participation of the front, with the same addition of 3 loops. The increases rise from the broaches - so up to the 18th row. At 19, knitting begins, but before removing the first loop, a yarn over is made. Next, you need to continue this until the 44th row, after which you need to drop the sleeves onto the auxiliary thread. The following instructions for their implementation are as follows:

    1. Before combining with the back, knit a straight section of the sweater.
    2. To avoid holes in the armpits, cast on 3 additional loops from the body fabric, as shown in the photo.
    3. Continue knitting, making decreases along the bevel line like this - knit 2 together behind the front wall, then turn the loop and do the same, but behind back wall.
    4. Having not knitted about 6-7 cm to the estimated length, move on to the rib, doing it like this: 2 knits on the decrease line, purl, purl from the broach, etc.
    5. Move to the neckline. Knit it the same way as the sleeve.
    6. Finish the straight section of the product by making the same elastic band at the bottom.

    For men

    Instructions for implementation men's sweater given for sizes 50-52. The distribution is as follows:

    • back – 37 p.;
    • before – 45 p.;
    • sleeves - 14 p..

    The knitting instructions are as follows:

    1. Cast on the original chain of 118 stitches, knit 4 rows with an elastic band.
    2. To solve the question of how to knit a neckline beautifully with knitting needles, make 4 rows with a hollow elastic band, alternating the front one and removed as a purl, for which you need to place the thread in front of the left knitting needle. On the next row, do the opposite. On the last one, knit and purl together to return to the original number of stitches.
    3. Follow the partial knitting instructions above to make a sprout.
    4. Make the sleeves by casting on 4 additional stitches from the body fabric and decreasing along the bevel line. Finish them off with an elastic band.
    5. Tie the main part, and at the end also make an elastic band.

    Raglan knitting on top for children

    For children, knitting a neckline cannot necessarily be done in the round. The top method is also used to make blouses with buttons. The good thing about knitting from above for growing babies is that it is then easy to unravel the lower part and add it to the desired length. For this reason, raglan is so often knitted for children. Below you will find an option for both girls and boys.

    For girl

    For work you will need:

    • knitting needles on fishing line;
    • scissors;
    • hook;
    • yarn of any color.

    As an example, instructions for knitting a blouse for newborn girls are shown. The execution steps are as follows:

    1. Cast on 40 stitches, make an elastic band about 1.5 cm.
    2. Mark the loops as follows - left and right front from 5, 4 raglan lines from 2, right and left sleeve from 5, back from 12.
    3. Knit with alternating colors and front and back rows, making 2 yarn overs in the first row along raglan lines.
    4. When the length reaches the child’s armpit, transfer the sleeves to an auxiliary thread, tie the front and back to the desired size, ending with an elastic band at the bottom.
    5. Make the sleeves, also finishing them with 1x1 elastic.
    6. Place the front loops on a long knitting needle and knit a strip of the required width, making holes for the buttons.
    7. Complete ready product, sewing buttons.

    For boy

    A boy's pullover is knitted from 45 initial stitches. The neck circumference is taken to be 18 cm. The distribution is made as follows:

    • 16 p. – for the front;
    • 15 p. – for the back;
    • 4 p. – on raglan lines;
    • 5 p. - for each sleeve.

    Type the required chain and follow these steps:

    1. Make markings and knit odd rows from 1 to 9, yarn over before and after each raglan line. Start and end everything air loop. In even numbers, purl and air knit the yarn overs, and purl the yarn overs with crossed stitches.
    2. When you reach the desired length for the top, remove the sleeves using a auxiliary thread.
    3. Combine the back with the front, continue knitting to the desired size, then make a few cm of elastic.
    4. Close the bottom, trim the remaining thread.
    5. Knit the sleeves, decreasing at the bevel points every 6th row. Get to the desired length, rib and finish knitting.
    6. Tie the neckline with an elastic band too.

    • using one thread when knitting;
    • a large selection of patterns that can be knitted from the neckline without seams;
    • use of raglan lines as a decorative element of the product.

    Disadvantages of the raglan top knitting technique:

    • An accurate calculation for a specific product size is required.

    Let's get started

    It is better to start mastering the technique of knitting a product from the neck without complex pattern.

    When starting work, you should decide on the model. The presence of a fastener, neckline, sleeve length, size - everything needs to be taken into account.

    What do we need?

    1. Sketch of the desired model.
    2. Circular knitting needles - you need to choose, taking into account the thickness of the thread.
    3. Yarn - selected depending on the model and size.
    4. Threads for marking.
    5. Stocking needles for working on a seamless sleeve.

    Calculating the length of the neck

    For a more accurate understanding of how to knit raglan on top with knitting needles, you need to calculate the length of the neck. Initially, the neck circumference is measured. For example, the neck circumference is 34 cm, then find out how many loops need to be cast on for this length.

    Calculating the loop test

    First you need to determine the density of loops per 1 cm of fabric.

    Calculation of the loop test involves the following algorithm:

    1. For the sample, a fabric measuring 20 rows and 30 loops wide is knitted. For the most accurate calculation when knitting a sample, it is necessary to use the knitting that will be used to make the main product.
    2. The finished sample should be washed and steamed, which will allow for a more accurate calculation.
    3. Calculate 1cm stitches using a ruler.
    4. The resulting loop result must be multiplied by the length of the neck circumference.

    For example, you can consider the option when the density is 2 loops. The neck circumference is 34 cm. Based on calculations, the length of the neck should be 34x2 = 68 loops.

    We calculate neck loops by segments

    From this amount, you need to subtract 8 loops for the design of raglan lines, divide the rest by 3. The result is 20 loops for each segment.

    Taking into account the height of the front and back neck, you should calculate the number of loops of these parts. Masters recommend making this calculation as a percentage, namely leaving 45% of the loops for the front; 35% is for the back, the remaining 10% is for the sleeves.

    Now simple mathematical calculations will help you count the loops by segment.

    60 loops - 100%, making up the proportion, you get:

    • before 45% - 27 loops;
    • back 35% - 21 loops;
    • sleeves 10% - 6 loops per piece.

    In this case, 2 loops are used to design each raglan line. Depending on the pattern, this number may vary, in any case it must be a multiple of 4.

    Another important point calculation - diagram. The detailed description looks like this.

    A circle “neck of the product” is drawn in the center of the sheet, which consists of 68 loops. 4 rays are drawn from the circle - “raglan lines”, between the lines - segments of the product. The upper part is the back, the lower part is the front, the sides are the sleeves.

    To knit a sprout correctly, it is necessary to divide the loops of each segment, except the back, into parts. The sleeves, counting from the back to the front, will be divided as follows: 3 loops, 2 loops, 1 loop for each sleeve.

    The front loops are separated starting from the center. The diagram will look like this: 2,3,3,5,3,3,2, where 5 loops are the center of the front neck.

    The essence of technology

    The essence of the technique is the step-by-step knitting of all elements.

    Work begins from the neck. To do this, you need to cast on the knitting needles the calculated number of loops and connect them in a circular knitting pattern.

    Since the height of the front and back neck is different, it is necessary to knit a sprout. Therefore, partial knitting of the back is performed.

    The part of the back and sleeves called the sprout.

    To do this, turn the work with its back towards you. Now you need to determine the beginning of the sprout row. Based on the diagram, the 3rd loop of the sleeve will be considered the beginning of the row, when viewed from the back.

    This is where you should start:

    1. The product is unfolded, the first loop is knitted with a crossed yarn over, the rest - according to the pattern. All the back loops and the first three loops of the second sleeve are knitted.
    2. Now you should turn the product and knit the first loop from the broach, then 3 loops of the sleeve in the usual way. Having reached the raglan line, an addition is performed.
    3. The last stitch of the sprout should be knitted together with the next one.
    4. Having turned the work to the wrong side, continue knitting according to the pattern.

    Knit this way until the neckline is formed.

    When knitting on top, you can choose any convenient way design of the raglan line. Depending on how the pattern will look on the finished product, the master chooses how to make the lines.

    There are two main ways:

    1. The most common and easiest way to design a raglan is to make 2 knit stitches without holes. Regardless of how the main knitting is performed, the raglan lines are knitted with knit stitches, according to the following pattern: before and after the line, an increase is made from the broach, 2 loops of the line are knitted with knit stitches.
    2. No less easy way- 1 purl loop in the center of the raglan line. This design looks good on the front surface. It is performed as follows: before the raglan line, an increase is made from the broach, then 1 purl loop and an increase again. So the fragment is knitted to the end of the raglan.

    We design the gate

    The design of the collar from the neck can be done different ways. In the first case, the collar is shaped at the beginning of knitting, and then the entire product. In another case, the collar is knitted last.

    The first method is used when knitting a product with a low elastic collar.

    The technique is as follows:

    1. 1 p.p., 1 p. removed with double crochet in front of the canvas;
    2. 1 l.p., removed with a crochet over the fabric, 1 p.

    Knitting continues until the required collar size. The second method is more convenient when decorating an original gate. Knitting a collar is done from neck loops, which are knitted onto knitting needles, then continue with the main knitting.

    Some models are made with separate knitting for the collar, then it is sewn on at the end of the work.

    Shutdown

    Finally, the elastic band is formed and the loops are closed. A placket with buttons and a collar are decorated.

    Raglan top knitting for women (master classes)

    Raglan on top with knitting needles is used when knitting various female models. Understand how to tie stylish thing will help detailed description scheme.

    Raglan neckline with button placket and stand-up collar

    When starting work, it is necessary to perform correct calculations. Having decided on the number of neck loops, calculate the strap loops.

    Women's raglan

    As an example, a neck of 48 loops is given. For the bar you should cast on 8 more loops. Then 16 loops will go to the front, and the rest will be divided into the back and sleeves, respectively.

    In the first row, the 1st edge is knitted, in the remaining rows it is removed.

    Knitting pattern:

    • Row 1 – first and last 8 stitches – placket: p1. removed, thread before work, 1 l.p. in the usual way, alternating, knit 8 loops, the rest are knitted in stocking stitch;
    • 2nd row - placket according to the pattern (the purl loops are removed with the thread before the product), the remaining loops are knitted with a 1x1 elastic band, knitting the front one from the previous row, and the purl one in the usual way;
    • 3rd row - repeats 1st row.

    To avoid getting confused with the pattern, knitting professionals advise marking each strip with markers.

    After knitting the collar, they begin to distribute the loops to perform the raglan.

    Here it is also worth marking the raglan lines with markers.

    Scheme:

    1. The first row is knitted according to the main pattern. The strips are knitted unchanged until the end of the product.
    2. Second row, all stitches are knitted, raglan - purl. P.
    3. Starting from the third row, the sprout is knitted, then the knitting of the product continues, making the necessary increases in the lines.

    Pullover in nautical style with raglan

    Product in nautical style can be knitted using a combination of white and blue yarn. To work, you need to prepare 450g of white yarn and 150 of blue, circular and stocking needles.

    Stages of work:

    1. Cast on 77 stitches of white yarn on circular knitting needles.
    2. First row - purl. loops.
    3. The loops are distributed according to the scheme for determining raglan lines.
    4. Increments are made only in the front rows before knitting the sprout, then the work is done in a circle of 15 rows.
    5. The next 4 circles are knitted with blue yarn.
    6. Changing the yarn every 4 circles, knit to the waist.
    7. Next, the fabric is knitted with white yarn, the elastic of the pullover is made in blue.
    8. The sleeve is knitted on double needles with white yarn up to the elastic band.
    9. The elastic is done with blue thread.

    Cardigan with openwork diamonds

    This model is made according to the pattern of knitting a sweater with a placket. But the main difference from knitting a sweater is the length of the product. The cardigan can be long, fitted or loose.

    The openwork diamond pattern is knitted according to the following pattern:

    For example, a sample of 17 loops + 2 edge loops is used, the pattern repeat is 12 rows. All even rows are worked with purl stitches, and the pattern is formed in odd knit rows.

    You can choose the size of the diamond according to your choice. By choosing small diamonds, the product will turn out more openwork.

    The basic principle of knitting such a pattern involves yarning over from yourself, and knitting the next loops along with changing the slope, so that you end up with a clear diamond shape in the pattern.

    Having mastered this pattern, you can easily use it in the main knitting of a cardigan with raglan sleeves.

    Raglan top knitting for men

    Men's clothing knitted using the raglan technique on top will appeal to both young and older men.

    Master class on knitting a men's raglan sweater

    Having carried out a preliminary calculation of the loop test, the number of loops for the neck was determined to be 120. Sweater for size 54.

    Knitting the neckline and sprout is done according to the classic pattern, then the loops are distributed and the raglan lines are marked. The entire product is knitted in stockinette stitch.

    The sleeve is knitted on double needles and the corresponding increases are made. The stand-up collar is made with 2x2 ribbing, the same technique is used to make the ribbing of the sleeves and bottom of the sweater.

    Features of knitting children's raglan

    Seamless clothing is especially good for children. Things are soft and comfortable. And the easiest way to knit such a thing is the raglan technique on top. Using the technique of knitting raglan on top with knitting needles, you can get such children's things as sweaters and vests.

    For girl

    Raglan is especially often used when knitting dresses for girls. A tunic knitted in this way will look good on a girl.

    Knitting technique children's raglan differs in size, otherwise the techniques follow the classical scheme. Calculation of the loop test, distribution of loops into segments, circular knitting with expansion in the area of raglan lines.

    Things for girls can be decorated with laces or embroidery, pompoms or tassels. It all depends on the knitter’s imagination.

    For boy

    Models for boys can be very diverse: pullovers, jumpers, sweaters, vests, sweaters. Having calculated in detail required amount yarn, work on the selected model according to the classic raglan knitting pattern.

    When knitting an item, it should be periodically tried on the child in order to correct shortcomings in a timely manner. For a more colorful design, you can use a combination of yarn of different colors or decorate the finished product with embroidery.

    Step-by-step instructions for knitting a children's pullover using the raglan technique

    After calculating the loop test and determining the required number of neck loops, the loops are cast on knitting needles.

    Knitting is done in stockinette stitch from the neckline, without a collar.

    Execution order:

    1. 9 knit rows: 1 chain stitch, 1 knit stitch, yo, 5 knit stitches, yo, 1 purl (raglan line), yo, 15 knit stitches (back), yo, 1 purl, yo, 1 knit stitch, 1 chain stitch.
    2. Purl rows are knitted according to the pattern.
    3. In the 11th row, pick up 1 air loop on each side of the shelf and close the work in circular knitting.
    4. Knitting continues until the required number of sleeve loops is cast.
    5. The sleeves are removed using stocking needles.
    6. Continue knitting in the round without any additions until the required length of the product.
    7. The last 6 rows are knitted with a 2x2 elastic band and the loops are closed.
    8. Knitting the sleeves is done on double needles, decreasing stitches in every 6th row to the required length.
    9. The sleeve ends with a 2x2 elastic band.
    10. To decorate the collar, pick up the first stitches of the neckline on circular knitting needles and knit 4 rows with a 2x2 rib.

    This pullover is very comfortable. Can be worn by both boys and girls. Decorated with embroidery or other decorative elements you can create an accent for a girl or a boy.

    Design of raglan lines: methods

    There are different ways to design raglan lines. Depending on the taste of the author or the model of the product, the lines use classic 2 front loops without holes, volumetric pattern from braids or openwork designs.

    Pattern “Braid of 6 loops”

    Knitting is done in stockinette stitch, pattern repeat - 6 rows.

    The scheme is as follows:

    • front row - 1 yarn over, 6 knit yarn overs, 1 yarn over;
    • purl row - according to the drawing, the yarn over is knitted purlwise with a loop crossing.

    Knit 6 rows like this, cross in the 7th row:

    • yarn over, remove three loops of the braid onto an auxiliary needle;
    • knit the next three;
    • return the first stitches of the braid to the working needle and knit them.

    Pattern "Made from holes"

    The openwork line of raglan looks great on products made from fine yarn. The number of loops in the line can be any. The easiest way to decorate the openwork lines of raglan is by making increases with a regular yarnover.

    Knitting stages:

    • On the front side in front of the raglan pattern, a regular yarn over is made, 2 front loops of the raglan line, yarn over;
    • On the wrong side, all loops are purl, including the yarn over of the previous row.

    Another very beautiful way– “Herringbone” drawing. Pattern repeat 10 rows. All additions are in the front rows, purl rows - according to the pattern.

    Execution steps:

    • 1st row – yarn over, knit, yarn over;
    • 3rd row – yarn over, knit 3, yarn over;
    • 5th row – yarn over, knit 5, yarn over;
    • 7th row – yarn over, knit 7, yarn over;
    • 9th row – yarn over, knit 9, yarn over.

    In every 11th row the pattern is repeated. The result is a pattern of holes that resembles a herringbone. This raglan line looks great on items made from fine yarn knitted on top of both adult and children's models.

    The master's imagination will tell him which choice is most suitable option line design. Products with raglan sleeves are an easy and convenient way to make knitted items with your own hands.
