I have long wanted to sew myself a denim handbag and yesterday I got such a handbag from unnecessary jeans. The handle is adjustable in length, so there are 3 options for handbags: cross-body, shoulder and waist bag.

To sew a bag, we will need: denim fabric (I have fabric from unwanted old jeans), duplerin or non-woven fabric to seal the fabric (I used thin padding polyester, since I have a lot of leftovers), a 25 cm zipper, a carabiner for bags 2 pcs, 1 frame -regulator, 2 half rings or belt loops (I didn’t find them desired color and used 2 frames), thread, scissors, pins, measuring tape.

I will sew a handbag from denim strips different shades. Cut 4 strips for each side of the bag. 8 strips measuring 24x5.5 cm.

We sew the strips together and iron them. From the bottom on both sides we cut off the corners, making the bottom of the bag rounded. The pattern for the front and back sides of the handbag is 23x18 cm. According to this pattern, the finished size of the handbag is 22x16 cm.

We seal both sides of the bag. Cut the padding polyester a little bigger size, put the fabric on it and iron it (through gauze or a scarf). The padding polyester will stick a little to the fabric and become thin.

The sides of the bag need to be quilted. Sew along the edge of the stripes and along the entire edge denim.

Cut off the excess padding around the edges. We do this with both parts of the handbag.

We cut out 2 more such parts from denim or other fabric (for the lining/inside of the bag).

I will have 2 small pockets on both sides of the lining. For them, I cut 2 rectangles 16x11 cm, folded the edges inward, ironed them and sewed them in the center.

Then we cut 2 more strips of 23x6 cm from denim.

We bend the strip with the right side inward and sew along the sides, where it is marked with dotted lines.

Turn it right side out and iron it. Same with both stripes.

Now we connect the outer and inner sides of the handbag and these strips. We place a strip on the part of the front side of the bag, on them there is a part for the inside of the bag (with the right sides facing in) and stitch where it is marked with a dotted line.

It turns out like this.

For the side of the bag, cut 2 strips measuring 52x6 cm.

We also seal the strip for the front side, as well as the main parts of the front side of the handbag.

Now you need to connect both sides of the bag to the side.

To do this, first sew the front side of the side to one side of the bag, then to the other.

Then we also sew the inner side panel to the inside of the bag, leaving an 8 cm hole.

Through this hole we turn the bag right side out and sew it up.

Now we make fastenings for half rings or frames on the sides of the handbag. For them, we cut strips of 5x8 cm. We bend them with the larger sides and stitch them from the wrong side.

Turn it right side out, iron it and insert it into a half ring or frame. It is better to immediately stitch where it is marked with a dotted line.

Received details. (attachments for the handle) we insert on the sides of the bag between the layers of fabric, bending the sidewall layers inward.

Sew in 2 lines for security.

We sew the zipper to the stripes that we sewed between the front and inside of the bag. I didn’t find a zipper with a slider in the right color, I’ll change it later when I buy it.

You can hide the tip of the zipper using a denim strip. Then we hide it inside the bag.

All that remains is to make a handle; it will be adjustable in length. To do this, cut a strip the right size(size depends on your preference and height). Average length strips for such a pen are from 100 to 130 cm. In my case, 105x8 cm.

We compact it. We also place the fabric on the padding polyester and iron it (through a scarf or gauze). The synthetic winterizer will become thinner and stick a little to the fabric.

The strip needs to be quilted and the excess padding polyester cut off along the edges.

We bend the strip along its entire length and stitch it from the wrong side, where it is marked with dotted lines.

Turn it right side out, iron and stitch again.

We bend the edges on the other side inward and stitch again along the entire length. We iron it so that our strap becomes thinner. Let's start assembling the adjustable handle for our bag using 2 carabiners and a frame.

We insert one of the ends of the handle into the hole of the carabiner, bend the tip and sew it where indicated by the dotted line.

We thread the second tip of the handle into the frame, then into the hole of the second carabiner and sew the tip of the handle to the middle part of the frame (the video above and my YouTube channel show it in more detail).

Using a carabiner we attach the handle to the bag.

We make a wide and long handle (choose the length yourself, which one suits you best). To do this, take another part of the trouser leg (you can sew several pieces together if you don’t have a whole long piece). On the inside we sew a lining of the same size. Sew the handle on opposite sides to the belt.

So that our handbag can be fastened and the internal contents do not fall out, we also sew a zipper to the lining. Ready!

You will need:

• two belts of the same length,

We take them, cut off two legs and cut each in half. We give each piece a trapezoid shape (that is, one side is wide and the opposite side is narrower).

From the other part we cut out the bottom and two identical sides.

7. Do the same with cotton items, with the only difference being that in the inside of the bag you should leave an area of ​​approximately 10 cm in the side seam unsewn.
8. Fold the handle parts (long rectangles) in half. Align the cuts and baste along the long side.
9. Machine stitch along all basted areas.
10. Turn the handles right side out. To make this operation easier, use this simple advice: Sew the lace to the edge of the handle and attach a pin to it, and then thread it through the “denim tunnel”. Now all that remains is to pull the cord, and the handle will begin to unscrew itself.
11. Remove the basting and carefully iron the seams.
12. In the bag blanks (both cotton and denim) form a bottom in the lower part. To do this, draw additional lines perpendicular to the line of the bottom seam, as if drawing corners. Please note that the length of the line corresponds to the width of the bottom in the finished product. 13. Check the correspondence of the drawn lines; they should represent a mirror image of each other. Sweep away.
14. Machine stitch. Remove the basting and press the seams.
15. Combine the details of the bag (jeans) with the handles, folding them right sides and pointing down. Chip or sweep. If the design of the bag has a flap, baste it in the same way (with right sides facing each other).
16. Insert the inner cotton piece into the resulting structure.
17. Sweep the top cut, making sure that the valve and handles are inside.
18. Machine stitch.
