    20.06.2020

A leather wallet is not an extra attribute that creates style. This accessory must be of high quality, durable and comfortable. Sewing a leather wallet with your own hands is not an easy task, the main thing is to find a template. This will require good source materials and firm hand. Not many people succeed in making a neat thing the first time, so before trying the ideas from these master classes, practice on leatherette. You need to learn how to make even seams and carefully mount the fittings. Having mastered these skills, you will be able to sew original wallets self made for yourself and as a gift to friends.

    Materials and tools

Furriery tools are needed to work with leather:

    • Roller knife. This is a round blade attached to a handle. It differs from ordinary scissors in that the cut is perfectly even.
    • Awl. This sewing tool is indispensable in working with leather. With its help, holes are made in advance through which the thread is threaded and the parts are sewn together.
    • Line stamp. With it, you can immediately make a series of identical holes. The tool looks like a small fork. By attaching a punch to the skin and hitting its handle with a hammer, we get an even row for decorative stitching.
    • Synthetic threads. For the design of the wallet, strong threads are suitable, in a contrasting or the same color as the material. You can replace them with waxed cord, which is as durable as synthetics. Before work, the cord is rubbed with a piece of beeswax and the thread is ready for work.
    • Accessories. These are various magnets, clips, rivets, buttons for decorating the edges. decorative elements are matched to the tone of the material and can imitate bronze and gilding.
    • Thick gypsy needle with a wide eye. For sewing, choose needles marked “for leather”.
    • Embossed stamps. With their help, wallets are decorated with an embossed pattern. For hot stamping, the stamps are heated over a fire.
    • Dye. Designed for toning edges and cuts. The color is matched to the color of the skin. To restore damaged areas, a special primer for the skin is used, and then paint is applied.
    • Sandpaper. With its help, round the edges and reduce the thickness of the material. For work, take small paper, marked P400.
    • Wooden sticks. For ironing parts, applying glue.
    • rubber adhesive. Needed to fix the edge and protect the internal compartments from water.

Important! In some models, do-it-yourself wallets made of leather are created on the basis of a pattern that does not need to be sewn. Parts are glued and sewn with decorative stitching.

    What skin to choose?

The best is veal, goat (chevro), and the least suitable is pork. She gets wet quickly and is not very pretty. The skin is also divided into:

    • smooth;
    • polished;
    • embossed;
    • suede;
    • varnish;
    • nappa;
    • skin of reptiles and exotic animals.

Based on one pattern, using different skin, experienced master can make completely different wallets.

Important! Thin leather should only be used with lining materials - cardboard and non-woven.

    How to work with skin?

There are tricks in making wallets. This material is different from fabric and requires a completely different approach. The most important thing in the work is an accurate pattern, which is made of thick cardboard or wood.

Important! Thin paper patterns will wrinkle and cut out an even detail will not work.

    Operating procedure:

    1. We lay out a piece of leather on a hard and even surface - linoleum, a special mat.
    2. The template is transferred to the front side of the material.
    3. We mark places for seams.
    4. We make holes for the line.
    5. Then the product is assembled and the edges are tinted.

This is the basic procedure for working with a wallet pattern. If you immediately sew the pieces together, without pre-made holes, then the product will come out crooked.

Important! Sew parts on a sewing machine. But even stitching is easy to do by hand. To do this, use a special method - working with two needles. The first goes from below, the second from above. The threads are threaded into the same hole.

    Men's handmade wallet with photo

Tailoring a men's wallet is not an easy task, but great patience and knowledge. For men's wallets, thick leather is chosen, for example, buffalo, cow, goat. A material thickness of 2-2.2 mm is enough, otherwise the product will be quite heavy.

What wallet models are most often chosen by men?

    • Wallet for breast pocketclassic version, which is convenient to carry in the inner pocket of the jacket.
    • Double fold - the most common male model. Compact and roomy.
    • Cardholder - a miniature wallet with a clip for money, bank cards.
    • Traveler is a large purse with a compartment for a passport.

If a person is used to carrying a lot of things with him, then in addition to standard departments, you can make a pocket for flash drives, insurance, a key clip.

How to sew a quality men's purse from genuine leather with your own hands.

Important! The size of the wallet is selected according to the palm of the owner.

    Purse

    1. Transfer the template, cut out 2 inner pocket pieces, 3 strips for card slots, a large base piece.
    2. We fix the pockets on the glue, we lay a line along the edge and in the middle of the part.
    3. We sew pockets.

    footage

From old bag, leaky leather jacket, as well as from any other pieces of artificial or genuine leather (or dense oilcloth material) you can make a beautiful and comfortable men's purse with your own hands. It can be sewn on a typewriter or by hand.

The pattern will be elementary. Life time finished product directly depends on the material you choose, the quality of the threads and the seam itself. If you work hard, at the exit you can get a purse or a wallet, which will be possible not only to “take out”, as they say, to people, but also to give.

    What will we need?

    • fabric or leather, which will become the main material of the product
    • a good cutter and scissors, which will be tough on dense material
    • strong and reliable thread (if you sew by hand, take silk)

    How to make a purse?

To begin with, we determine the size of the craft. We will make them close to standard: length - 21 cm, width - 8 cm. But you can change everything to your taste. Further dimensions will be indicated taking into account these parameters, but they are easy to adjust to suit you.

So, we cut out the necessary part from the material (it is better to make a cardboard pattern first).

Then cut out the pockets. To do this, we make four identical patterns: width - 8 cm (like the base), height - 6 cm.

In one pocket we make a funnel-shaped recess (see how it looks on the finished purse), in another - a rectangular hole. However, you can refuse this if you are afraid to spoil the material.

We will sew all the pockets at once, so we put them two on one side, two on the other. Moreover, in such a way that one slightly ran into the second (as in the photo).

The edges can be carefully glued with transparent superglue in some parts.

We sew on a typewriter (or sew by hand) as close as possible to the edge around the entire perimeter.

This model is made of shoe or haberdashery leather 1.4-1.6 mm thick without lining.

First, cut out all the necessary details of the purse. To do this, you will need a shoe or breadboard knife, a metal ruler, a silver gel pen and a plastic board on which we will cut. The configuration, quantity, as well as the dimensions of the parts in millimeters are shown in fig. one.

If possible, you can cut out different parts of the purse from different topographical areas of the skin. So, details VI and VII are better cut out of thinner leather - from the floor (the lower part of the semi-skin, where the belly is), and detail I is better to cut out from the black part (back).

After cutting, we proceed directly to the assembly of the product.

    1. First, we assemble a knot called “pocket for change”: in the slot of part V, using Moment Classic glue, glue a zipper 105 mm long (Fig. 2).

We smear with glue the cut sections of the leather part and the zipper tape, as shown in Fig. 3, wait 5-10 minutes and glue so that the allowances of the zipper tapes protrude beyond the cuts of the leather part, as in ill. four.

Glue VI to V (ill. 5 and 6). Then, on the front side of the parts, we lay a machine stitch to the edge, connecting the side sections of parts VI and V and sewing the bottom zipper tape (Fig. 7).

We carefully melt the ends of the threads of the line over an open fire, for example, with a lighter. Melt the ends of the threads after completing all the lines.

We glue the protruding section of part VI to the allowances of the zipper tapes as shown in Fig. 8, and we sew a machine stitch to the edge along the cuts of the parts, sewing the protruding section of the part VI and the top tape of the zipper (Fig. 9). It turned out the front part of the pocket for small things, which makes the pocket more voluminous and, when opened, does not allow small things to get enough sleep. It remains to attach the front of the pocket to the back (d. III).

We mark with a gel silver pen d. III as shown in ill. 10, apply glue along the marking lines (ill. 11), glue the parts and set up the front of the pocket, sewing a line to the edge along the top, side and bottom cuts of the front of the pocket (ill. 12). The coin pocket is ready.

    2. We assemble a knot with pockets for plastic cards. To reduce the thickness of one of the d. IV with a shoe knife, cut off part of the skin thickness at an angle to the surface, as shown in ill. 13.

We mark the second d. III, as shown in ill. 14, apply glue on III and IV (ill. 15), glue and adjust the lower edge of d. IV (ill. 16) to the edge. Then we apply glue on the resulting workpiece (III + IV) and on the second d. IV as shown in ill. 16. We glue and stitch the second d. IV along the side and bottom sections, while the side sections of the first d. IV fall under the line (ill. 17). The node is ready.

    3. We connect the received nodes with d. II: mark it (ill. 18), apply glue on the front side of d. II (ill. 19). Further, combining the outer sections of the parts, we glue and adjust the pockets (internal vertical sections) on case II, as shown in ill. 20. We have the entire inside of the purse ready.

    4. Let's process the strap: when the purse is filled with banknotes, the strap with the button will keep it folded. From the side of the bakhtarmyany, we will spread glue on both files. VII (ill. 21). Glue them together (ill. 22). Then, using a semicircular chisel, carefully trim the ends, giving them an oval shape (ill. 22), and lay a machine line along the perimeter of the strap (ill. 23).

Now we need a press to install fittings (Fig. 24). With the help of punch nozzles, we will make two holes in our workpiece with a diameter of 2 and 3 mm at a distance of about 10 mm from the edges (Fig. 25). In that hole, which is smaller, we will install the upper part of the button with a diameter of 9 mm (Fig. 26). The press attachments that are needed for this are also shown in fig. 26.

On d. I we will punch two holes with diameters of 2 and 3 mm at a distance of 20 mm from the edges. Install the lower part of the button into the smaller hole using the appropriate nozzles (Fig. 27).

The final operation with the press is the connection of d. I with the strap through the existing holes with a diameter of 3 mm using a double-sided holniten with a diameter of 6 mm (Fig. 28). We squeeze not very much so that at the very end you can turn the strap 180 degrees.

    5. The last thing left to do is to connect the outer and inner parts of the purse to each other: mark out e. I as shown in ill. 29. We apply glue to the sections (ill. 30), glue and connect the parts with a machine stitch along the perimeter of d. I, laying it in the edge.

As a result, it should turn out as in Fig. 31.

Note! In the middle of case I, a slight slack should form relative to case 2 (ill. 31), so that the purse closes easily and does not open spontaneously.

We unfold the strap into the working position - and the purse is ready!

Thus, we have one large compartment for banknotes, two compartments for cards, two pockets for all sorts of pieces of paper (they have an entrance from above) and a compartment for small change (ill. 32).

The wallet is important, one might even say necessary thing in Everyday life. Wherever we go, it is almost always in our bag or pocket. An unpleasant situation can be when, standing at the checkout, you realize that you forgot your wallet with money at home or in the car.

Wallet as an important thing in everyday life

We need a wallet not only to store money, it is also a container for bank, discount cards and numerous business cards.

There is a huge variety of wallets - both men's and female models. They differ in size, number of compartments and, most importantly, material. Someone prefers leather models, for example from a pig snake or an ostrich. Someone prefers artificial materials: leatherette or fabric. And some prefer to get creative and sew the wallet of their dreams on their own. Why not? After all, this is a rather useful skill - to know how to sew a wallet without resorting to the services of a seamstress. The main thing is to decide on a pattern.

    How to choose a wallet

Nowadays, the wallet not only carries a functional load, but is also bright accessory. You can tell by the wallet taste preferences person, as well as his financial situation. Wallets from leading brands are made of natural exotic leather and are often decorated with rhinestones or stones.

In any case, it is a generally accepted fact that men choose their model based on its quality characteristics, while the fair sex prefers the model to be beautiful and fit their style.

And many needlewomen are completely interested in how to sew at home, without having special sewing skills. And having understood, they make unique models.

How to make a fabric wallet at home

Let's figure out together how to sew a wallet without spending a lot of time and effort on it. To start, we need necessary materials and tools.

So, let's look at how to sew a fabric wallet.

That's all. Now you know how to sew a wallet easily and quickly. You can use other patterns, then the model will be different.

    DIY leather wallet

How to sew different strength and durability. Therefore, take the choice of leather seriously, it is better to contact specialized stores.

You will need a sewing machine, since leather is a fairly dense material, and it is quite problematic to make an even seam by hand. Threads also need to be matched to the color of the base material. Having made a pattern, get to work.

It is desirable to make the seam small, then the wallet will come out more accurate in appearance. What if you don't have sewing machine? This will make things a little more difficult, in the sense that you will need to practice making a nice neat seam. You can work it out on extra pieces of skin.

In addition, it will take a little more time, as the fingers will get tired from working with dense material.

    Seamless wallet

As an option, we offer you such a creative model, for the creation of which you do not need to sew at all. You can make such a wallet very quickly, and it will look very interesting.

Just imagine what you are doing and now do the same with the skin and attach the button.

    Other materials

Materials can be combined, as leading brands often do. For example, make an insert from natural wool or fur on a leather basis, or combine different types skin. It will look very impressive.

remember, that natural materials are always more durable and hardy, unlike artificial ones.

Here is another example of a cute wallet.

Try, experiment and over time you will understand how to sew a wallet with your own hands. You can come up with patterns yourself, without limiting your flight of fancy, in which case you have every chance of becoming the owner of an unusual, original wallet.

It is difficult to find a beautiful, high-quality and convenient wallet made of genuine leather for storing money, and it is so expensive.

Therefore, I decided not to spend money and sew a leather wallet for money from improvised material with my own hands. What happened as a result you can see in the photo.

All bootlegs from worn women's leather boots I usually cut off and store for further making homemade products from them. It is easy to make shoe covers, slippers or a cover for any gadget from genuine leather. This time a purse was sewn from the top.

The choice of sizes and drawings of wallet patterns

First of all, it was necessary to determine the size of the wallet based on the size of the largest banknote, and make patterns out of paper. Banknotes of 1000 and 5000 rubles have the same dimensions 69 × 157 mm. The rest of the dignity of a smaller size.

Thus, the width of the compartment for paper notes, taking into account their possible number and the seam allowance of 6 mm, must be at least 172 mm. As a result, the size of the wallet turned out to be 80 × 172 mm. Based on these data, patterns were made from thick paper.

After opening the seam and removing the inner fur lining, a flat sheet of natural leather was obtained. To determine the sufficiency of the size of the leather plate for making a purse, the patterns were laid out on it. Luckily, the sheet of leather from the top turned out to be of sufficient size so as not to engage in additional sewing.

    How to smooth natural skin

The skin from the tops of the boots was undulating in places, and a general bending of the entire surface of the plate was observed. Therefore, before cutting, it was required to smooth it out. The easiest and fastest way to perform this operation is with an iron for ironing clothes.

The plate was placed skin side up on a flat surface of a table covered with a thick cloth. From above the skin was covered with cotton cloth. Using a sprayer, the fabric was slightly moistened with water.

The iron setting has been set to maximum heat. When the iron was hot, the leather was ironed over the entire surface by applying and lifting the iron without moving across the plane. The essence of smoothing is a slight moisturizing and pressing down of the skin, which leads to its straightening.

After smoothing with an iron, as can be seen in the photo, the waves disappeared on the sheet of leather, and it became flat, ready for further work. It remains to let it rest for a few hours, so that moisture evaporates from the skin, and it takes on a natural shape. When moisturized, the skin slightly increases in size.

Marking and cutting leather for a homemade wallet

When the skin plate has dried up, you can start marking it out according to the pattern, and cutting out the details for making a wallet.

For marking, you need to lay out the patterns on the surface of the skin and circle them around the perimeter with a ruler using an alcohol felt-tip pen.

You can cut genuine leather with a scalpel or a clerical knife. To do this, you need to firmly press the metal ruler, oriented along the marking lines, and draw a knife blade along it with sufficient force. To prevent the knife from dulling under the skin, you need to put a soft material, for example, corrugated cardboard or several newspapers. If you have not had to cut the skin before, then it is better to first practice on an unnecessary section of the plate.

The photo shows workplace and the tools that were needed during the cutting of leather for a homemade wallet.

How to sew a leather wallet by hand

Since the design of the wallet consists of two sections sewn together, the space between the sections was used to create a pocket for storing plastic cards.

The dimensions of a standard plastic card are 54×86×1 mm. The size of the pocket was chosen based on the possibility of placing up to 6 cards in it and was made taking into account the seam allowance of 60 × 100 mm.

Further along the seam marking line with reverse side skin was applied glue "Moment". Glue is needed only for the convenience of sewing, and in this case it can be used by anyone, since the skin will be later sewn with threads.

To seam at hand sewing turned out with equal length of stitches, it was marked with a ruler and felt-tip pen in increments of 5 mm.

In order for the needle to easily pass through the skin, it was drilled at the marking points with a mini drill with a drill with a diameter of 1 mm. Instead of a drill, you can use an awl or a special line punch for leather.

You can sew with any thread - linen twisted (its waxing is required), polyester (kapron) or lavsan. I chose a kapron thread, black. It is elastic, strong, durable and melts easily, which allows you to securely fasten the ends of the threads in knots. Any needle will do.

I sewed with a double thread through one stitch in one direction and back. To prevent the thread from getting tangled, you need to press it with your finger from the side where the needle is inserted.

The wallet compartment for cards is ready. You can put cards in it and see how they are placed. Over time, the skin will take desired shape and the cards will be easy to take out and put back in. If desired, you can make round cutouts on the sides to make it more convenient.

You need to start the firmware by bringing the thread between the folds of the skin and finish with a double stitch with the output of the second end also between the folds of the skin.

At the last step, the knot is smeared with glue and, using a narrow screwdriver blade, is tucked into the crease between the skin plates.

The photo shows appearance hand-sewn from the top of a women's boot purse. It remains only to install a button-fastener on the valve.

    Snap button installation

The button fastener at the wallet serves not only to fix the valve, but also is an element of decoration. Therefore, a button with a fixing annular spring was chosen. It works softer and has relatively large overall dimensions.

The set of one button includes four parts, which are shown in the photo. Two of them are fixed by riveting on one of the fastened surfaces, and the second pair - on the other.

The following tool is required to install the fastener button: - a hammer, a punch and tools - a bit for riveting and a support hemisphere. If there is no punch, then you can put the skin, for example, on a piece of wood, install the part of the button with sharp edges (top in the photo) in the right place and lightly hit it with a hammer.

The fastener button is installed on the wallet and its operation has been checked. The photo shows a hand-sewn women's wallet. If desired, according to your taste, you can paint over the ends of the skin with a felt-tip pen of the desired color and apply a drawing with an electric squeezer or embossing.

This is how a do-it-yourself wallet made of genuine leather looks like, filled with banknotes, plastic cards and small change. As you can see, due to the simplicity of the design, any home craftsman can sew such a wallet in a couple of hours.
