    03.08.2019

There is now a huge amount of men’s clothing in Moscow – it’s easy to get lost in such variety. Pride studio specialists analyzed the offers of shirts on the market and formed a rating the best manufacturers in terms of price and quality ratio. Our men's stylist Ruslan Mitro shares his opinion on the best brands.

    1) Shirts up to 5 thousand rubles. If you need inexpensive shirts for everyday wear, for example, to the office, we recommend paying attention to brands such as Boggi Milano, Massimo Dutti, Cacharel and Caliban. These brands use fairly good fabrics, and the quality of tailoring is also worthy of respect. However, you should not expect anything supernatural from them.

    2) Shirts from 5 to 10 thousand rubles. The leader of this segment can be called the Meucci brand. Costing from 5 to 6.5 thousand rubles, the shirts are of excellent quality; you can find extremely good options made of interesting textured fabric. In addition, almost all Meucci shirts have mother-of-pearl buttons, which is a sign High Quality.

In addition to Meucci, you can choose shirts from Hugo Boss, Pal Zileri, Eton and Cantarelli. Hugo Boss cost 6-7 thousand rubles. These are mostly straight-cut shirts; here even the fitted models are not very narrowed, so they are unlikely to suit thin men. Shirts from such well-known brands as Pal Zileri and Cantarelli cost around 6-8 thousand rubles.

A distinctive feature of the Eton brand is the diversity of its model range: here you can find classic straight shirts, skinny slim shirts, and super-slim fitted shirts. In addition, many Eton shirts have interesting trim on the inside of the collar or a contrasting color on the buttonholes. Thus, Eton is a great option for those who like original style casual.

    3) Shirts from 10 to 20 thousand rubles. These shirts are made from higher quality and thinner expensive fabrics, often with elements self made, and always have mother-of-pearl buttons. The brands included in this category are Van Laack, Canali, Finamore, Ermenegildo Zegna, Maria Santangelo and Dunhill.

For informal situations good choice will be the brands Etro, Paul Smith, Kenzo, Viviene Westwood and Burberry, which are known for their interesting and original designs.

    4) Shirts from 20 to 30 thousand rubles. When sewing such shirts, the finest high-quality fabrics are used. The shirts have hand-stitched seams, stitched yokes and other exclusive details that emphasize the status and high cost of the item. Perhaps the most famous brand classic clothes The manufacturer of shirts of this type is Brioni. You can also find great shirts at Tom Ford, Kiton, Feru, UomoColezzioni and Raschini. Shirts in an informal casual style are made by Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Dolce & Gabanna, Billionaire Couture and Zilli.

    5) Shirts from 30 thousand and above. This best shirts that can only be found in stores men's clothing in Moscow. The most expensive and thin fabrics, the highest quality fittings are used. All shirts are sewn by hand, and the tailors pay special attention to great attention every little thing.

Classic brands include Kiton, Cesare Attollini, Stefano Ricci and Tom Ford. Among the informal shirts, Billionaire Couture and Angelo Galasso should be noted - such clothes will emphasize your social position and status.

Men's shirts to order: to sew or not to sew?

Stylish men's shirts do not have to be bought in expensive boutiques - they can be made to order. Moscow has quite a lot a large number of atelier where you can order a shirt in any price range. In addition, serious studios provide the services of a stylist or designer who will help you choose the optimal shirt model, taking into account your body shape and your personal wishes.

Of course, depending on the chosen studio, the quality of tailoring may vary. We have compiled a list of the best studios in each price category. You can learn more about this from the corresponding review.

Contacting a tailor has a number of advantages:

If you have non-standard figure, then sometimes finding a suitable ready-made shirt can be somewhat difficult. While a custom-made shirt will skillfully hide all your shortcomings and correctly emphasize your advantages.

A good tailor can sew an original shirt with designer elements, while ready-made stylish men's shirts similar type quite difficult to find.

Tailored shirts are very comfortable to wear, as they are made taking into account all the features of your figure. Such shirts will not gather in a large number of folds or press, and the tails of the shirt will never stick out from the trousers.

Good tailors provide a variety of fabrics to choose from. At the same time, you will be sure that for sewing you will use natural material High Quality.

Even with classic shirts, you can show originality. Typically, designers and tailors can provide a variety of shirt designs and varieties of collars and cuffs to choose from. Thanks to so many design options, you can become the owner of a truly ideal shirt that will make you feel comfortable in any situation.

Of course, custom-made shirts take time to try on. However, contrary to popular belief, sometimes making a custom-made shirt is faster than going around the shops over and over again in search of a ready-made shirt that would satisfy all your requirements.

As part of a fan study by Roskachestvo, the consumer properties of 29 samples of men's shirts under trademarks Allan Neumann, Fortunato, Brostem, Dobroshiv, Conti UOMO, Authentic, O'STIN, VOGEL, Greg, Bruno Banani, River Island, Bonprix, H&M, Zara, TOPMAN, V.B, Galta, SELA, Hans Grubber, Baon, Oodji, John Jeniford, Favorite, Incity, Tom Farr, MNG, Chkalov, Livanso, Bellford. These are the most popular brands of men's shirts among Russians, which are called shirts in the state product classifier. Almost half of all shirts (15 samples) were produced in factories in China, Moldova, India, Bangladesh, Belarus and Turkey. The presented sample indicates a fairly high share of imports in this product category. Each sample was examined according to 12 quality and safety parameters. The cost of the products participating in the fan study ranged from 800 to 4,000 rubles per unit of product at the time of purchase.

STANDARD OF THE RUSSIAN QUALITY SYSTEM

The standard of the Russian quality system for non-classical men's shirts, in comparison with the current GOST, sets higher requirements for the breathability of the fabric. In addition, it included additional requirements for the hygroscopicity of materials and changes in product dimensions after wet processing. A high-quality shirt should provide maximum comfort to its owner in terms of hygiene and withstand long and intensive use. The required level of production localization for awarding the Russian Quality Mark is at least 75% of the cost of the product.

An address is not a house or a street

According to the current law on the protection of consumer rights and technical regulations of the Customs Union, the labeling of each product must be as informative as possible. Packages must bear the name of the manufacturer, manufacturer and supplier/importer (if any). Moreover, it is necessary that information about each of these legal entities be supplemented with contact information - telephone numbers and addresses. Regardless of the specific country in which the product was produced, when it is sold in Russia, all text must be presented in Russian and be accessible for viewing and identification. And this requirement has nothing to do with excessive bureaucracy. The fact is that the consumer should always know how and to whom he will make claims if necessary. The packaging of the shirts did not contain comprehensive information Bruno Banani, TOPMAN, River Island. No information other than the brand name, shirt size and article number was indicated when labeling the samples Fortunato, Brostem, V.B, Hans Grubber, Bonprix, Baon, John Jeniford, Favorite, Tom Farr, MNG, Livanso. That is, in fact, when purchasing shirts from half of the study participants, the consumer took unidentified products, responsibility for the quality of which was shifted only to the retail outlet where the goods were sold. All these cases are regarded as violations of consumer rights to reliable labeling. Control authorities were notified about them.

    Important

From the point of view of official terminology, the shirts that are familiar to everyone are called “men's outer shirts.” This name was assigned to the product for historical reasons: previously, a shirt belonged to a rather intimate wardrobe, essentially being underwear. Shirts are divided into classic and non-classical (sports). The most popular sports models today can be worn for graduation, they have pockets sewn on them, and the use of suits and ties is not necessary.

    Synthetic deception

As shown by early fan studies of Roskachestvo, which studied the properties of other products light industry, falsification of fabric composition is a fairly common practice. As a rule, the cause of this violation has economic roots. By purchasing products made from more expensive “80 percent cotton,” the consumer sometimes received almost 80 percent cheap synthetics. Men's shirts In terms of falsification, they were no exception. Deviations from the declared composition were found in almost half of the products presented in the study (14 samples).

And if the actual fabric composition of branded goods Allan Neumann, Dobroshiv, Conti UOMO, VOGEL, Hans Grubber, John Jeniford, Favorite, Tom Farr, Livanso, Bellford differed from what was stated not so much, then in the case of samples Fortunato(stated - 80% cotton, fact - almost 80% polyester) and Brostem(stated - 80% cotton, fact - 80% polyester) gross facts of falsification were recorded. In addition, sometimes manufacturers surprised experts with very unexpected substitutions. For example, like this: V.B(stated - 100% bamboo, fact - 100% linen), SELA(stated - 65% cotton, fact - 100% cotton). It is difficult to explain the last two facts logically. Cotton and linen are natural and quite expensive materials that the real composition of the product must be hidden, especially under the loud name “bamboo”, which is very rare in its natural form and is very expensive.

All these facts are regarded as a violation of consumer rights to reliable labeling.

    Erasing financial losses

Unlike children's clothes, a men's shirt goes into the wash much less often, however, over time, under the influence of a centrifuge and moisture, it can change its size. Shrinkage or stretching of fabrics after washing in the case of shirts will lead to a loss of aesthetic component and family budget. A product that does not fit well on its owner will quickly be taken out of service, which means he will need to buy a replacement. Considering that the average cost of the shirts presented in the study is about 2,000 thousand rubles, saving on a “sustainable size” has well-founded reasons. The requirements for changing dimensions after wet processing in the Roskachestvo standard are identical to the current GOST, according to which the product should not lose 2-3% of its dimensions after the first wash. The vast majority of products presented in the study were able to meet this requirement. Separately, it is worth mentioning positively the samples under trademarks Authentic, O'STIN, Greg, Bruno Banani, H&M, SELA, Zara, TOPMAN, Hans Grubber, Tom Farr. In them, the deviation from the original dimensions barely exceeded 0–0.5%.

    Get off to color

Modern fashion trends have provided men's shirts with access to all color palette. Used in the production of any textile products dyes, as early studies by Roskachestvo showed, are a rather weak link in terms of the safety and quality of light industry products. The fact is that any textile research includes testing for dye resistance to various influences - washing, dry friction and sweat, that is, all basic operational mechanics. This parameter refers to the safety characteristics that are included in the mandatory product requirements. It is important to note that the requirements for the coloring of materials in the Roskachestvo standard have been tightened, including because a shirt is the first layer of clothing that is in direct contact with human skin, and therefore poses a potential danger to it. During laboratory tests, it was found that in the vast majority of cases, manufacturers used high-quality and stable dyes. Relatively easily, it was separated only from four shirts that could not meet the standard of the Russian quality system for this parameter. And the only sample that, in terms of safety, was recognized as not meeting the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union was a bright shirt under the trademark John Jeniford. The dye was intensively separated from the fabric under the influence of washing, sweat and dry friction.

    It's all about the seams

It's obvious that men's style The use of the shirt will differ slightly from that of a woman's shirt. A sharp wave of the hand or carelessness can lead to the product quickly coming apart at the seams. The requirements for the quality of seams are very clearly formulated in current GOST, they were also included in the increased standard of the Russian quality system. According to them, all sections of fabric must be carefully processed, the lowest seam is made with a hem, and the side seams are made in a lock, and not using the stitching method. All these requirements are aimed at increasing strength (as a result, the service life of the shirt) and improving hygienic indicators. It is gratifying that, regarding the specified characteristics of the seams, almost all the samples presented in the study were able to meet the strict requirements. The only exceptions were four shirts, in which some of the seams were made using the stitching method. It is worth noting that in general the type of seams does not affect the safety of the product.

    "Smooth" shirts

A high-quality product, according to higher standards, must also be symmetrical on all sides. Sleeves, collar sides, pockets and even patterns in every detail of the shirt should be proportionate. During laboratory testing, minor deviations were found in two samples. These facts do not violate any current regulations, but a man wearing uneven shirts is likely to look less stylish.

    Fresh look

Even though the shirt modern man rarely used for sports and other activities (for this, as a rule, there are more suitable clothing), even during a quiet daily routine, the sweat glands of the stronger sex work more actively than in women. Therefore, the fabric of shirts must have very high hygienic indicators, because both the health of the skin and the image of a man depend on them.

The fabric hygroscopicity parameter determines the effectiveness of the material in absorbing and removing from human body moisture, the accumulation of which can lead to various skin irritations. It is interesting that none of the current standards, including GOST, sets mandatory requirements for the hygroscopicity of men's shirts. The reason is the outdated approach to the concept of “shirt”, that is, current standards do not consider a shirt as clothing of the first layer, which means that the ability to absorb and wick moisture is supposedly not so important for it. The Russian quality system, taking into account the modern realities of using shirts, and the overwhelming majority of them are worn by all men naked body, has included this requirement in its own standard. Based on the results of laboratory tests, each of the presented samples was able to meet this requirement. Branded products were recognized as the most hygroscopic shirts Chkalov And SELA.

Breathability determines how well a shirt will breathe. The microclimate of the body under the fabric, and therefore human hygiene, depends on the ability to pass air. The requirement for this parameter, in contrast to hygroscopicity, is established by the current technical regulations of the Customs Union. The Roskachestvo standard in this part also went further and included more stringent requirements. Most of the products, with the exception of five products, were able to comply with them. But in the samples Zara, MNG, Bellford the fabric practically did not allow air to pass through - in terms of breathability, these three shirts did not meet the mandatory requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union, which means they are unsafe.

Good quality clothing and straight seams are not the same thing. Moreover, the high price of a product cannot always guarantee the excellent quality of the item. Often the choice of clothing is influenced by the brand of a particular product that has proven itself in the market. In this article we will pay attention to such an important detail in a man’s wardrobe as a shirt, and we will review men’s shirts and their brands.

    Features of branded men's shirts

Brands gain their popularity for a reason. The features of branded clothing set them apart from cheap, simple items:

    • Textile. Branded products are usually made from natural fabrics. These are cotton, linen, a mixture of cotton and linen, and rarely silk. It is generally impossible to find polyester in the fabric of a men's shirt of a famous brand.
    • Cut. A branded shirt always fits your figure perfectly. The specificity of tailoring has been developed over the years and deservedly brings popularity to the brand.
    • Accessories. Well-known global shirt manufacturers practically do not use plastic buttons. Their shirts are usually decorated with high-quality metal fittings, which can be of absolutely any shade.

Important! Men's shirts from well-known brands have their own signature style, which distinguishes them from other clothing.

let's consider best brands men's shirts and note their features.

    Henderson

The famous Henderson brand was created by the Polish clothing giant LPPS.A, but was later purchased by Russian businessman Ruben Harutyunyan.

Important! The price segment of this brand's clothing is more mid-range than high-end. However, this does not prevent the Henderson brand from winning awards in its field. For example, this brand was named the best 5 years ago.

    Features of Henderson shirts:

    • Sewing. The fabric for sewing shirts is always 100% cotton. The stitch density on the product is 6 cm, which is a decent level for shirts.

Important! Henderson shirts boast a perfect match of patterns and lines of connection of parts.

    • Style. All Henderson brand models have the same business style.

Important! It should be noted that over 100 Henderson brand stores are open in Russia. However, the brand is not very popular among European buyers.

    Tommy Hilfiger

Branded clothing Tommy Hilfiger belongs to the Phillips-Van Heusen factory from the USA. The company was founded in 1984 and is today the largest corporation in the world. It is noteworthy that the leading specialist in shirt design is still the creator of the brand, Tommy Hilfiger.

Important! The price segment of the products is above average in Europe and high in the CIS countries.

    Features of Tommy Hilfiger shirts:

    • Sewing. Men's clothing from this brand is comfortable and has a simple design. Products are made from cotton or wool, with rare exceptions - with the addition of synthetic elements for decoration. The shirts of this brand are pleasant to the body, wear-resistant and of high quality.
    • Design. The clothes of this brand are more of a semi-sports style than a classic one. This type of clothing is very popular in the American states among bright and independent people. Of course, the assortment of Tommy Hilfiger brand stores includes products of a strict style, but it is quite difficult to classify them as classics.

Important! This shirt will look great on athletes who are interested in yachting, fishing, and skiing.

    Etro

Continuing our review of men's shirts, we note the Etro brand, which belongs to Etro SpA from Italy. The company entered the market in 1968 offering expensive, high-quality fabric.

Important! The founder, Gerolamo Etro, already at that time focused on expensive products. The world-famous paisley graphic style appeared in 1980. The Etro brand belongs to the high price category.

    Features of Etro shirts:

    • Sewing. Etro brand shirts are made from natural fabrics - linen, cotton, and silk. Sometimes up to 20% elastane and nylon are used for individual elements. The quality of tailoring for Etro men's clothing is quite high, which is achieved through two-needle stitching.
    • Style. Etro products are distinguished by bright patterns and an unusual combination of different patterns. The brand's designers have been giving preference to Indian motifs for many years.

Important! There are no labels on the products; the Etro brand is recognized by its bright prints and designs. Most shirts are made in a casual casual style.

    Paul Smith (mainline)

The brand belongs to Paul Smith Ltd, founded in 1970 in the UK. The first collection of men's clothing was presented in France in 1976. The prices for Paul Smith men's shirts are high, as is the quality.

Important! The main collection of the brand is the Paul Smith mainline line of shirts. Prices will be slightly lower for shirts from the Paul Smith London collection, which is achieved by cheaper fittings.

Distinctive features of Paul Smith shirts:

    • Design. The company produces high-quality clothing made from natural fabrics or a mix of them with viscose. On branded clothing, only mother-of-pearl buttons are used, the presence of plastic fittings is excluded. The brand is distinguished by the original and unusual design of its products. Paul Smith focuses on details - signature stripes, bright prints, unusual color combinations.

Important! The highlight of branded products is one button on a shirt of a different color.

    • Style. Among Paul Smith's products one can find not only a strict classic style, but also bold, frilly shirts. Designers can use cufflinks with a pattern of naked girls, a flamingo or a treble clef on the product.

    Marks&Spencer

The company has a huge distribution network in the UK and around the world. In 1884, emigrant Michael Marks founded his own clothing business and opened a store where all items were sold for one penny. In 1894, Tom Spencer offered Michael cooperation, and after 20 years the partners owned 145 stores.

    Characteristics of Marks&Spencer shirts:

    • Design. Men's products have a classic, seasoned style, but there are also sports models. The company's main focus is on large size shirts.

Important! There are practically no colors in men's clothing bright shades, common colors are black, blue, cyan and brown.

A good shirt is a work of art. It is like a painting by a brilliant master: you can admire it from a distance, enjoying the plot; you can come closer and carefully examine the details - the smallest strokes and strokes in which the artist’s inspiration is embodied. To create something beautiful, you need to have not only talent, but also skill - knowledge of technology - which comes with experience. A well-tailored shirt is not just a collection of mechanically connected pieces of fabric. A quality shirt requires a careful, holistic look at the manufacturing process, which includes many factors. These are also parts of the product that are very precisely adjusted to each other - as a result of which the shirt becomes not just clothing, but a second skin, you feel cozy and comfortable in it, it does not restrict movement and at the same time fits your figure. This is the quality of the fabric, which makes the shirt beautiful and elegant. This is also attention to detail, seemingly insignificant at first glance, which is what we want to talk about today. Let's look at two examples of what makes a good shirt high level from the most ordinary, or even mediocre.

Let's take the fairly well-promoted mass Spanish brand Massimo Dutti. The cost of this copy is about 3 thousand rubles. (regular price without discounts). Made in Türkiye. Well, let’s compare it with an Italian shirt from the Guglielminotti brand, which is made in Italy. Price about 8 thousand rubles. Both shirts can be classified as approximately the same style - or smart casual. Both are slim, that is, slightly fitted. I must say that they are fitted different ways: MD - using darts, and Guglielminotti did without them. Personally, I like the second option better, but this point cannot be considered as an indicator of quality.

Cut. Of course, everything depends on the individual characteristics of the figure, but I would still note that the Massimo Dutti shirt, despite the fact that it generally fits well, slightly restricts movement in the area of the latissimus dorsi muscles. Guglielminotti does not have this drawback - and in general, the Italian shirt has a certain harmony of parts, thanks to which the necessary comfort is achieved.

Buttons. On a high-end shirt, mother-of-pearl buttons are a must. They won't break, unlike plastic, and they look much better. The thickness of a button can serve as an indicator of the manufacturer’s “generosity or stinginess”: thin buttons made of natural mother-of-pearl, of course, reduce the cost of production. You can distinguish mother-of-pearl from platinum by touch. The most likely test would be to touch the lips: mother-of-pearl feels cooler tactilely.

The Massimo Dutti shirt has plastic buttons, the Guglielminotti one has mother-of-pearl buttons. Pay attention to the sewing method: on the right - by hand, in a beautiful way“crow’s foot”, on the left - the usual machine “criss-cross”. However, both shirts have a minus: the buttons do not have a “leg”. Not critical, but still.

Also important is the fact that on the right (of an Italian shirt) the loops are hand-stitched (all of them), while on the left - by machine.
Here's another interesting difference: the Guglielminotti shirt has a horizontal bottom loop (for greater freedom of movement - a small thing, but a nice touch).

Manual operations- one of the main indicators of a high-level shirt, which we will mention below, but it should not be overestimated. Yes, it is prestigious, and a live seam may make the fit more comfortable and natural, but machine stitching is, of course, stronger. And they often duplicate each other. Look at the photo below: it seems that the yoke is sewn by hand. Really, hand stitch is present, but in fact there is a hidden machine seam there.

Massimo Dutti - regular machine stitch:

The MD shirt, of course, has no manual operations at all. What can the Italian test subject boast from this point of view?
Sleeves are sewn by hand (photo from the inside):

As you can see, there is also a machine seam nearby, but it is not working. This is clearly visible if you slightly bend the fabric.

UPD: Here's the thing: doubts arose whether this is a real hand stitch or whether it was made on a special machine that imitates a hand stitch - thanks to Eduard for the clarification (see comments to the post). Contacting the manufacturer did not clarify the situation - there was no response from the Italians. Still, I am inclined to agree with Eduard - the seam was not made by hand, that is, with a needle and thread - a cunning machine was used here.

Here it’s worth immediately pointing out one more factor, which, if you notice it, accurately indicates that this is not an ordinary shirt. Good tailors sew on the sleeve at the end, after the back and front are sewn. It’s easy to determine: see if the side seam and the inner seam of the sleeve match. If not, the sleeve is sewn on at the end.

The sleeve cut placket is sewn by hand:

Also pay attention to a tiny but very characteristic detail - a short transverse seam, which is rare even in expensive shirts. Apparently, it serves to strengthen the design of the sleeve cut.

Gussets. Another little detail that is present on all decent shirts. This is a small piece of fabric, most often triangular, that connects the bottom of the front and back of the shirt. As we can see, it is present on the MD shirt, but it definitely looks much nicer on the G.

Collar. In both shirts it is not very stiff with a thin lining inside. On an Italian shirt it is neater and smoother. MD cannot boast of a high-quality collar, as it bubbles slightly.

Good shirts must be removable (cheap ones have them sewn in). In our comparison, this extremely useful option is present in the collars of both shirts.

Another important factor is stitch density machine seam. It speaks of the strength of the entire structure. In shirts of the lower price segment it is approximately 4-5 stitches per cm. In good and very good ones it is 6-7. Sometimes it can be more. Both of our shirts today fall into the same category according to this indicator: MD - 6 stitches/cm, Guglielminotti - 7 stitches/cm.

Let’s complete the analysis by naming one more detail by which you can confidently say that this is a good quality product. quality shirt. The English term sounds like “single-needle stitching”. This means that the side seam is sewn using one needle. What does this mean? The fact is that a double parallel seam is easier and faster to make with a sewing machine with two needles, but this is not the most the best option for the buyer: after washing, the fabric at the seam will most likely become wavy. It takes longer to sew with one needle, but it looks more aesthetically pleasing (only one seam will be visible from the outside), and the fabric will not wrinkle.

The Massimo Dutti shirt, as we can see, is stitched with two needles. Guglielminotti - in one.

People have always valued quality and professional approach in everything. Even more so in tailoring. Experience, craftsmanship, traditions, love for one’s craft and the flight of the soul - these seem to me to be the conditions for creating truly beautiful creations. You rarely see a complete set of these factors, which is why such clothes are expensive. However, as has been mentioned more than once here, good clothes or shoes can be regarded as an investment - an investment that will bring dividends: career, relationships, new opportunities. But there is another reason - sincere and selfless love for good things. Why not?
