It is quite possible to sew from an old one fur coat, even if it is worn out, there are probably some pretty decent pieces left there natural fur, which is simply a sin to throw away.

Features of working with fur
- What else needs to be said about cutting - cut carefully with long, sharp scissors, cutting through only the core, and in no case the pile. The lower blade of the scissors should carefully push apart the fur fibers so as not to damage it. Another option is to cut along the flesh with a sharp scalpel.
- Secondly, if you sew a product with the fur facing out, then you must take into account the direction of the pile! In rare cases it doesn't matter. As a rule, fur (think mink, muskrat, fox) always has a clearly defined direction. Think in advance how you will cut it out. This applies not only to such a large product as a vest. This is also very important for sewing a collar.
- Third, it has fur different lengths and thickness, longer on the back, shorter on the sides. This also needs to be taken into account.

How to make holes through which the edges of the parts that make up the pattern are connected? Everything is very simple. You can, of course, use an awl, but then the holes will not be as convenient for inserting a hook as when working with a special tool.
This thing is good for making belts. There are several punches for different diameters. If the belt suddenly becomes too small, I use this tool to punch an extra hole. If this Genuine Leather, then everything looks good like this, if it is an artificial material, then you can put metal eyelets, such as are found, for example, on boots.
My only advice is that if you need such a punch, don’t buy the cheapest one. I don’t know what kind of material it is, but I once had bent handles that had to be connected with force to break through the thick skin. I had to throw it away and buy a new, more expensive one.
Next, all the components of the pattern are tied around the edges and crocheted together. It's up to you to decide what yarn to use for this project. It all depends on desired result. Threads that match the fur base look good, but contrasting ones are also possible.
Some people prefer exclusively wool (then the entire product will be natural), but durable synthetic yarn is also suitable for this.
It is necessary to note an interesting and important detail - the vest is double-sided, two things in one bottle. You can wear it on any side, as you like or according to your mood.
Knitting with an elastic band along the sleeve and along the edges of the entire product, the longitudinal seams are additionally processed with fluffy thread.
As Nina says, she has sewn more than one vest this way. Here is an example of a finished fur vest on a mannequin. To this she added short sleeves with the fur facing up (or down, depending on which side to wear!).
She did not tie the bottom of the sleeve with thread, but tied it with an elastic band. It turned out to be a very nice warm thing.

Sleeveless vests are often made with fur trim, although the main material itself is not necessarily fur. Nina did it differently, but it was also very interesting. The vest was not trimmed with fur - it was crocheted around the edges with fluffy threads.
An ideal solution for those who freeze in winter or whose apartment gets cold. It’s even easier to sew a vest without sleeves. You can, of course, buy a women’s fur vest (it’s unlikely to be inexpensive), but if you have small but decent leftover fur, then by spending a little time you can get a comfortable, warm item with a minimum investment.
This is my small alteration of the coat hood. There was some kind of “fish fur”, I replaced it with seal, there were pieces from an old sheepskin coat lying around. It turned out well, the pile shines, does not get wet in the rain or sleet, and looks noble. There are still a few pieces left, but I'm afraid that the vest won't work out. Naturally, it is better to make one with a lining with the fur side facing out.

It is better to do this manually, since not every sewing machine This thickness of the product is possible, and the seam may be visible.
Take a large needle and strong thread that matches the color of the fur. It needs to be slightly bent to the wrong side (2-4 centimeters) and sewn with the lining over the edge. That's it, you have a beautiful fur vest. You can belt it with a leather belt, and your designer item is ready.
The idea came from a turtleneck sweater
If you have something that is already quite boring and requires a little more time, then try making fashionable outerwear out of it. As in the first case, open the sleeves and cut off the bottom of the fur coat. You will also have to part with her collar. If you don't want that, then leave it where it is.
Next, open the sleeves and collar of the sweater. Most likely, this product is knitted, so to prevent the loops from unraveling, overcast the top of the sleeves and the bottom of the collar using an overlocker or by hand. Now place the top of the right sleeve between the fur and the lining of the right armhole, and stitch it in this place.
To prevent the threads on the armhole from tearing when putting on the vest, when you sew on the knitted sleeves, pull them a little so that they are slightly gathered. If the top of the sleeves is the same or larger than the armhole, this is not necessary.
In order for the new vest to fit smoothly, if the sweater collar is one-piece, you will have to cut it vertically at the front. Next, fold it with the right sides and on the wrong side, stitch the place of the right and then the left cut. Turn right side out and stitch to the neck of the fur coat. To keep your neck warm, sew with right side a loop on the stand-up collar, and a button on the left. Cut out only the fur itself, leave the lining and insulation, if any. You can restore a fur coat with fur scraps of a different color. This thing looks very modern. After cutting out the area of wear, place the removed part of the fur coat on another piece of fur, placing their fluffy sides together. On the inside of the new fluffy flap, outline the outlines of the old one.
When replacing a worn place on a product, outline the insert and cut it out, not forgetting to add a seam allowance, it should be 7–10 mm on all sides. If you use a blanket stitch, then 5mm is sufficient.
If the placket where the fastener is located on your old outerwear has worn out, replace it with a new one. It is also knitted or cut from new fur or from a piece of the same old fur coat that has not been touched by time.
If you have pieces of fur, then sew them onto a leather vest and you will get a newfangled sleeveless vest like the one on the right. You can sew a vest, then decorate it with fluffy, roomy pockets and a collar.
Boots with fur tops, warm insoles
If only the bottom of the sleeves is frayed, and not the elbow part, then turn them into fluffy tops that are worn on boots. If you have insoles taken out of your boots, take them out, they will become a template. Attach it to a thick sheet of cardboard and outline it. Then place it on the flesh and also outline it with a pen. Cut out the cardboard and fur blanks, fold them together and stitch along the edge. If the insoles cannot be removed, place your foot on a piece of paper and outline it. Then put the blank into the boot, edit the pattern to fit the shoe and use it as a template.

It is better to sew such a carpet in the form of a hunting trophy from artificial fur, but it can also be made from natural fur with a small pile. Using small scissors, carefully rip apart the fur coat so that the fur back with sleeves remains; you won’t need lining or insulation.
Open the connecting seam on the sleeves, straighten them and cut them in the shape of the front paws of an animal. The back ones of this model are small, mark them at the bottom of the back panel and cut them out.
If you have light colored faux fur, add a leopard print pattern to it. To do this, dilute dark hair dye according to the instructions, apply it to the base using a brush or template.
For the last one, cut out circles on a piece of paper various shapes, attach the template to the fur and use a sponge to apply a design. Move the paper sheet over the entire skin until you have painted it all. Let the paint sit for 40 minutes, then wash it off and dry the product.
If the fur coat is long, then at the bottom of the back panel there is enough space for a tail. If it is short, then cut it out from the remaining part of the fur coat and sew it in place. All you have to do is cut out and sew the leopard’s head; this is the most troublesome and interesting part of the work.

Enlarge the details of the presented pattern on your computer, attach a large white sheet of paper and redraw them or use tracing paper. After redrawing the pattern details, cut them out, place the resulting templates on the wrong side of the fur, and pin them.
Pay attention to the arrows, this shows a shared thread, so arrange the parts. Redraw on them symbols, letters that will help you combine the elements of the leopard’s head correctly.
In total you need to cut out:
- 2 side parts of the head;
- 2 bow parts;
- the nose itself is dark in color;
- 4 ear parts - 2 plain and 2 with a pattern.
Please note that paired parts are cut out in a mirror image. For the nose you need fur of a dark color, and for the inside of the ears - light fur.
Sew the nose pieces to the sides of the head. The letters on the pattern will help you do this correctly. Speaking about how to sew fur by hand to join the parts, it should be noted that a seam called “forward needle” is used. After you have sewn the nose and sides of the head, sew the 2 ears so that the inner sides have a solid color of fur. Now sew the nose of a dark color to the location of the center of the head indicated by the dotted line. Sew the central and side parts of the head, leaving slits for the ears, and attach them in place.
Stuff the animal's head with cotton wool or padding polyester, which can be taken from a fallen pillow. Attach the leopard's eyes and sew the head to the body.

It’s really not difficult to sew it and is much easier than cutting it, even if you have a ready-made pattern.
At the same time, the sewing of an already cut vest made of natural and faux fur differs only slightly if you followed my instructions when cutting.
Let me remind you of the need to use a furrier's stitch when sewing natural fur.
If you sew by hand, you can sew with a seam using regular buttonhole stitches. If you “break technology” on a universal machine, use at least a Teflon foot or a foot with rollers and a leather needle (with a “spatula” sharpening).
When starting to sew a product made from any fur, you should remember that you cannot use basting or notches. To avoid warping the product, apply control marks with a marker. And when grinding, carefully tuck the fur between the sections of the parts.
To give strength to the shoulder seams, they can be sewn together with any thin non-stretch braid or even a narrow nylon ribbon.
And if you use old worn fur for sewing, it is advisable to reinforce it with a trim.
To do this, after assembling the fur “top” of the vest, when only the shoulder sections are not processed, it is connected to the trim, cutting it out exactly according to the vest, that is, with the same seam allowances. They connect the border with the fur, quilting the product with oblique stitches 1.5 - 3 cm long, with the optimal distance between the lines being 3 - 7 cm. That is, the stronger the fur, the larger the stitch and the distance between the lines. After the vest is quilted, the seam allowances are cut off (cut out) on the side. This sequence ensures maximum accuracy (Fig. 1).
With faux fur, everything is simpler - fur with a glued base is ground off with a Teflon foot or a foot with rollers on a regular universal machine. If you don’t have these devices, you can sew through newspaper. Fur with an unglued base can be sewn down with a regular foot. In any case, remember to increase the stitch length.
Processing the dart: the allowance is cut out completely for the furrier's seam, but for the machine seam we leave 0.7 cm, then the dart is ground down.
Now about the “lining”. Mo 
th tip: choose a satin lining or thick satin, non-stretch satin, quilt the lining yourself.
Despite the apparent simplicity of processing this component of the product, there are several questions that do not even arise for some novice tailors. Let's dwell on them.
Why do I recommend a quilted lining? If you take a regular one, all the seams and flaws of natural fur or the glued base of faux fur will be felt through it. Therefore, it is better to take a thin quilted lining. Of those on sale, choose one quilted not with threads, but thermally, since factory quilting usually quickly pulls out of the seams.
Why do I think it's better to quilt your own lining? There are several reasons for this.
Firstly, all ready-made quilted linings are of low quality and are quilted on synthetic padding. It’s better to buy a satin liner, or even better, thick satin.
Secondly, it is better to use thin batting or thin pure woolen fabric as insulation (for example, a woolen scarf that has already been worn quite well). These insulations are not only warmer, more importantly, they can be ironed and do not “pass” through the lining with “nasty white balls”.
Thirdly and fourthly, the “homemade” stitch does not pull out of the seams and you can choose any wonderful pattern.
Attention! A lining quilted with padding polyester cannot be ironed! Therefore, the stitching seams should be unstitched. But a lining quilted with batting or woolen knitwear can and should be ironed, so we iron the sewing seams.

Finally, the upper collar seam allowance is folded over the open edge of the lower collar, basted and hemmed with small bias stitches. The fur will hide them, so a hidden stitch is not needed here. It is very important at the end of the collar to hide the ends of the edging under the seam allowance, and then connect the “top” and “lining” along the collar stitching seam.
