Children choose costumes of cartoon characters or animals for the holiday. For them, this is an opportunity to reincarnate and try on a new image. In this article we will look at the dragon costume. This mythical animal is found in fairy tales of all countries and acts as a good and evil hero.

    Great choice

The dragon is always portrayed as powerful and brave, evil and good at the same time. His unique abilities to fly and breathe fire always attract little children. But not everyone will decide to try on this image. Bravery and courage are masculine qualities, so a dragon costume for a boy is better suited. This does not mean that girls may not even consider this costume option. On the contrary, such an idea will be very unusual; there are unlikely to be any analogues.

What should a children's suit consist of?

Undoubtedly, each parent has his own vision of the mythical dragon, but there are mandatory details, without which the image of the dragon will not be complete. Here is their list:

    • a cape or cloak with spikes;

You can selectively use this list to create a suitable kit. For example, a dragon costume may consist of the following parts:

      masks and wings;

      caps, wings and tail;

capes or cloaks with a hood.

It is worth paying attention to some details, such as shoes and clothing. The image looks harmonious when using green and red colors. Don’t be lazy to choose clothes and shoes to match, and you’ll get best suit dragon. Children's holiday The costume for which the costume is being prepared involves outdoor games, so make sure that the child can move comfortably and comfortably.

    Cape

This option is quite convenient and easy to manufacture. If you have an unnecessary one, you can remake it. To do this, just sew soft spikes on the head and along the spine. They can be cut from an ordinary kitchen sponge and glued with double-sided tape. Or you can sew it from fabric, filling it with cotton wool. Soft spikes like these are a must when creating a look.

If you're ready to make your own new Year costume dragon from a cape, then be sure to complement it with a mask. Select fabric suitable color and cut out a semicircle with jagged edges. Sew a braid or ribbon around the neck - and the dragon costume is ready. The advantage of this option is that the edges of the cloak do not need to be processed, but are left in their original form.

    Overalls

Such option will do for those who have an old jumpsuit in their wardrobe, and if you can sew it yourself, it will be a big plus. But we will consider the option of a ready-made jumpsuit.

All we need to do is decorate the finished item. Soft spikes, sequins, stripes, in general, anything you can find at hand will be used. Be sure to sew wings and a tail on our dragon, and also choose shoes to match the color. And the dragon costume can be considered ready. Children's party The length of time a child will wear this costume lasts quite a long time, so consider whether the onesie will be hot.

    Headdress

You can choose a headdress from several options: a cap and a hat, we will consider each of them.

Before sewing a hat, take measurements of the child’s head so that the product fits. The material that is suitable for this should be dense, but at the same time not hard. You can sew by hand, but if you have a machine, you can use it, it will speed up the process. A good option- felt, as shown in the picture below, the dragon hat is sewn in several steps.

If you don’t want to bother and choose the option with a cap, then all you need is to decorate the headdress. To do this you will need felt, scissors and hot water. Cut out eyes and spikes from the felt and glue these parts using a glue gun. Do not forget that a cap or hat must be complemented with a cape. You can see the decor options in the following picture, or you can come up with something of your own.

    Mask

The materials from which you can make a mask are very diverse. You can use cardboard colored paper, cloth, plastic plates. It will be effective carnival costume dragon, if you choose fabric as the material for the mask. The mask can be sewn three-dimensional with details or flat.

For the second option, just cut out the base from the fabric, sew on an elastic band and add details. It is better to choose colored cardboard for the mask, this will simplify production. If you use white, you and your child can paint it with a solid layer of paint or paint scales.

If you choose volumetric version, then be prepared to spend a little more time. It is better to use several shades of the same color, and choose cotton wool to fill the details. Be sure to wash your nose, eyebrows, horns and spines. And then the mask will have a realistic look. Below you can see one of the options for a voluminous mask made of felt and a tail. Which, by the way, can be sewn using the same principle, filled with cotton wool or padding polyester.

So, the dragon costume is made with your own hands, all that remains is to add a few touches to make your child the most beautiful and happy.

For a greater holiday effect, you can decorate the child’s face with paints. Draw scales, menacing eyebrows and outline the mouth. But this option will not work if you choose a mask.

Decorate your child's shoes with soft details. To do this, cut out triangles from felt or cardboard that will act as claws and place them on glue.

Pay attention to your baby's hands; gloves will be needed to complete the dragon costume. You need to stick claws on them like shoes. It is better to use fabric for the claws, it will stick more firmly to the gloves. It is necessary to glue with silicone glue on each finger. And remember to follow the color scheme.

It is possible to make fire as an addition to the costume. After all, as everyone knows, dragons breathe fire. To do this, you can cut out a flame from cardboard and decorate it with paints. And then glue it on wooden stick using hot silicone. All a child needs to do is bring the flame to his face, and the effect of a fire-breathing dragon will be created.

A dragon costume for a girl can be made from the same details, just choose more delicate colors. Shades of red and pink are suitable. To sew a suit, choose natural fabrics. Choose a matching skirt with tights, braid your hair into two buns - and the cute dragon is ready.

Unfortunately, not all cartoon characters can be found in stores. For example, Toothless. This is a cute black dragon from the cartoon How to Train Your Dragon. Some toys are not the right size, others are appearance. And many trade marks They produce branded cartoon animals at exorbitant prices. What to do? One option is to sew Toothless with your own hands.

How to sew a toothless toy

For a successful result, you need a dragon pattern that looks like a cartoon character. That is, a dragon with a long body, an oval head and large wings. You can find many options for dragons on the Internet, but it’s difficult to find a cartoon dragon.

Therefore, it is better to choose the most similar and a simple pattern dragons.

The simplest version of the workpiece consists of two parts that will need to be sewn together. And then add individual small elements - paws, tail, mane and eyes.

    Tools and materials

In order to sew a dragon with your own hands, you will need the following materials:

    • Fleece fabric, leather or velor in black and beige.
    • For the mane - drape or felt.
    • Light fabric for a costume (if you want to dress up a toy).
    • Synthetic fluff or any other filler.
    • Sewing threads.
    • Rubber.
    • Material for sealing wings. For example, you can take thick oilcloth or regular office paper.

You don't have to look for a sewing machine. toy good quality It is quite possible to sew by hand using a seam called “back needle” or any other.

    Dragon pattern

First of all, you need to print out the pattern of a soft toy dragon. Each part of the body is on a separate A4 sheet. Everything is cut out and glued together, matching all the circles and markings.

Then comes the process of cutting the fabric. All paired parts are cut according to the same pattern. Two-color elements are cut out from one sample in duplicate.

Then you can start stitching the dragon. To connect the head correctly, you need to place the side of the head to the middle, align all the notches and only then sew the element. First, one half is fastened, and then the other.

The next stage of creating a toy is to sew the second side of the head to the middle. All parts of the head meet at the back of the head. It is important not to sew up the hole ahead of time, because the product will be turned inside out and straightened through it.

The upper limbs, ears and wings are sewn last. All legs are connected completely at once, leaving no holes. Then cut a small hole in the upper part of the foot and turn it inside out. Gaps and cuts are made in all corners of the future dragon.

    Step-by-step instruction

The dragon is sewn in stages, like any other toy.:

    • The two parts of the abdomen are sewn together. Focus on the less convex part. This will be the middle of Toothless's tummy.
    • Straighten what is sewn and sew the tail to it.
    • Then they work on the side parts of the body - attaching legs, paws, wings. It is important not just to sew the feet, but to sew them into the body. And also do it in such a way that the dragon stands on these legs quite steadily.
    • Sew the belly to the side elements. They do this starting from the neck, through the legs and to the tip of the tail. Repeat the action on both sides.
    • The longest part of the tail is laid out between its side parts.
    • Everything is sewn on, starting from the body and moving to the side tip of the tail.
    • Most short detail manes are sewn into the back of the dragon. If desired, you can omit the mane and leave the back of the dragon smooth.
    • We turn the sewn body of the toy inside out. We fasten and check all seams.
    • We stuff the filling tightly into the dragon.
    • We tighten and sew the ears to the body.

To decorate the face, you can use the most various materials. For example, make eyes from beads or beads or embroider them with floss threads, weave them from threads, buy and glue ready-made eyes. It all depends on the author’s imagination.

The inside of the dragon's wings is reinforced with thick oilcloth so that they stick out. Of course, wings are easier to make with a sewing machine. But if it is not there, then you can do it manually. It’s just that more time and effort will go into sewing the part together.

It is worth noting that the patterns from the network do not indicate the direction of the lobe. In this case, you should focus on height.

A handmade Toothless toy will look wonderful. She will be a wonderful friend for anyone small child. The main thing is not to be afraid to try, use your imagination and patience.

    FUNNY DRAGON

    FUNNY DRAGON

This cute dragon can be made from pink, green or blue fleece, or from wool, although this is a very difficult fabric to cut and sew. Despite the simplicity of the pattern, working with complex fabric will require some skills from a novice craftsman. If you don’t take such fabric, then even people who don’t often hold a needle in their hands can make this toy.

You will need Fleece, wool, knitted fabric or any other fabric of two contrasting colors (light and dark green), felt or drape, thick oilcloth (sealant for wings), black beads or ready-made plastic eyes, padding polyester or other filler, flexible wire, strong sewing threads to match the fabric, thin threads, paper, thin cardboard, a simple pencil, a needle, pins with heads or rings, scissors, chalk or a dry thin piece of soap.

    Progress

Dragon pattern increase to the right size, transfer to life-size paper, cut out, glue parts of the body, aligning the control circles on the pattern and prepare patterns from cardboard (Fig. 52).

Before cutting, you should carefully study all the details of the dragon pattern, then cut out the required number of parts. All parts are paired, with the exception of the continuation of the tail and the middle part of the head; these parts should be cut one at a time. Place the pattern of the dragon toy on the fabric desired color, then start cutting.

The ears and wings are two-color, so you need to cut 2 pieces from fabric of each color.

First sew the head, paws, wings and ears. To do this, attach the side of the head to the middle part, align the notches, pin the parts together with pins and sew first one half, then the other. In the same way, sew the second side part of the head to the middle part. When stitching the parts together correctly, the ends of the middle part of the head should meet at the back of the head. For ease of further processing, seam allowances in rounded areas should be cut. Leave the hole open to turn the workpiece out.

Figure 52. Patterns of the “Jolly Dragon” toy

Now you need to sew the upper limbs, wings and ears. Sew the paws completely, leaving no holes, so as not to disturb the shape. To turn the paws inside out, you need to carefully cut small holes along the grain thread in the upper part of each paw. Make cuts in all corners of the legs in the seam allowances. Sew the wings and ears from fabric of two colors. Turn all sewn parts right out.

Details from faux fur should be cut with the sharp ends of scissors, cutting only its base, but without touching the pile. Otherwise, the fur will be cut in the wrong place.

Sewing the dragon's body should begin by sewing together the parts of the tummy, folding 2 pieces of light fabric facing inward. They need to be sewn along the less convex side, this will be the middle of the dragon's abdomen.

Having sewn and straightened the seams of the abdomen, sew a continuation to it - the dragon's tail.

Now you need to sew the side parts of the body, sewing the legs to them: sew the side parts of the legs to the body, with the exception of the bottom part, since there will be feet.

Then pin the feet on each side so that their highest point coincides with the junction of the body and the side of the leg, then sew in the feet.

Now you need to sew the belly to the sides of the dragon’s body, starting from the neck, through the leg and to the tip of the tail: first on one side, then on the other. Carefully straighten the seams.

Cut out the jagged parts of the dragon's mane from felt or drape, and place the longer part between the side parts of the tail. Secure the piece with pins, then sew it in, moving from the body to the tip of the tail.

The part of the mane that is shorter is sewn into the back of the dragon. Since the mane is still longer than the back, its tip will stick out. You can use two options: either cut the mane at the neck, or sew this part into the dragon’s head. However, the second option is more labor-intensive.

Trim all seam allowances on the body to a minimum, and make cuts in the corners. Turn the torso right side out.

Before assembling the dragon, tightly stuff the body, head and legs with filler. Pull the ears from the side of the light fabric so that you get a notch. Place the ears into the corners of the hole at the back of the head and sew them in with a hidden seam. After sewing in the ears, the hole can be left unsewn so that part of the mane can be sewn in here later.

First, make small cuts on the back of the head on both sides from the junction of the middle part of the head.

Place the head to the body, attach it with pins, and insert the free end of the mane into the cuts on the head. Secure it with pins.

Now sew the mane to the dragon’s head with a hidden seam from top to bottom. After the mane, sew the head to the body with hidden stitches in a circle.

Sew the legs with a hidden seam to the body so that the holes through which the parts were turned out were facing the body of the dragon.

When completing the design of the dragon, you can make a constriction on its tail and tummy with a seam using a needle, grabbing the stuffing a little.

Figure 53. Soft toy"Cheerful little dragon"

Cut out small circles from light fleece or felt - nostrils, and sew them to the dragon's head with a loop stitch. Attach ready-made eyes or sew on beady eyes. To strengthen the wings, cut out parts from thick, hard oilcloth, or use an office folder.

Roll the parts into a tube, place them in each wing, then straighten them inside.

Sew each wing around the perimeter sewing machine, indicate membranes. Sew the dragon wings to the back using a blind stitch. The cute and somewhat pot-bellied dragon is ready (Fig. 53).

After the release of the cartoon about brave Vikings who learned to tame dragons, many children and adults had a new idol - the dragon Toothless - the Night Fury. Many kids dream of such a toy. With a little effort you can make it yourself.

    Velor dragon

Toothless looks most natural when sewn from velor or suede - then his sides will evenly shimmer in the sun.

The leather can be used to make the tip of the toy's tail, the teeth on the spine and claws. In general, the toy looks equally good in any design made from any materials - wet suede, leather, yarn.

Making a dragon with your own hands is very simple - it is important to decide on the materials and techniques for making it. List necessary materials:

    • Velor or black suede
    • Volumetric eyes
    • Black threads
    • Sintepon for stuffing
    • Black and burgundy leather stripes
    • Scissors

First of all, based on the patterns, you should make fabric blanks.

You should start by assembling the head parts into a pile. In order to get the head, you need to cut out and combine parts A-G. First of all, you should sew parts A on side 1. You need to remember that Toothless has beautiful horns. They can be obtained by connecting parts E6 and C6. Similar work should be done with parts D5 and C5. Then you need to align both parts C. All 4 “ears” must be connected near the beginning of the horns with the back part G.

The seam should be located inside. The remaining horns are sewn from parts F7 and B7. The head will be ready if you combine parts C3 and B3, and then BC with A. You also need to stitch along sides B2 and A2. The next step is to create Toothless's torso. To do this, you should cut out parts J and K from the fabric and connect them together. Next, you need to attach part V to the stitched parts. As a result, a line of spikes should appear located in the middle of the back.

Next you need to cut out parts G and L and sew them together in the places marked on the pattern as “ears”. It is very important that there is a hole between the two Q parts (it will be convenient if it is located below the protrusion of the chest). This hole will be needed so that the toy can be turned inside out. Parts R, S and T, which are the scallops and wings, need to be assembled together. You need to embroider them based on the dotted lines on the front side. P should be attached to combination parts QL.

To obtain the torso, you need to combine the parts QPL with JK. The upper part of the wings should be located 5 cm from the apex, on the shoulder of JK. Thus, the triangular scallop S should begin where the wing ends. Similar actions are performed with parts U, S, T, W. You need to make sure that when turning the craft right side out, the scallops will be on the outside.

Important detail - Toothless has suffered damage to his tail, and part of it needs to be made from a different color of fabric. The legs need to be sewn from parts M, N, O. Ready craft you should fill it with padding polyester and sew up the hole left in area Q. You can make the eyes yourself from fabric, but the toy will look most expressive with voluminous eyes.

    Upright Toothless

A toy standing on its hind legs looks quite original. When creating it, the main attention should be paid to the body and hind legs - in general, the structure should be stable. List of required materials and tools:

    • Velor or black velvet
    • Black felt for horns and paws
    • Wire
    • Leather or leatherette
    • White felt for eyes and teeth
    • Fabric glue
    • Fabric paint
    • Needle and thread
    • Scissors

This Toothless is easier to perform than one standing on four legs. Thus, his head consists of only four parts - the back of the head, the chin and two identical halves for the face. All parts are carefully sewn together so that the seam is in the middle of the muzzle.

A little below the seam line, several teeth should be glued. Gray paint represents Toothless's nostrils. Horns, ears and spines on the spine can be made flat by cutting them out of felt. Toothless's eyes consist of several parts - an eyeball, a black pupil and a highlight. First, all the parts are glued together into a single composition and only then fixed on the dragon’s face. At this stage of work, you should be careful - if you glue the eyes asymmetrically to each other, the dragon will “squint”.

The dragon's body consists of four parts - two identical parts of the chest, two identical parts of the back. Everything is sewn together and stuffed with padding polyester. Spikes are sewn along the seam on the back. The tail of the toy should be a solid part of the back; this must be provided for when choosing a pattern.

The front and hind legs must be sewn perpendicular to the body, having previously filled them with padding polyester. The claws can be painted on with fabric paint. A dragon with thin movable wings will look good. This is possible if you make them from leather or faux leather, placing them on a wire base. The flexibility of the wire will allow you to arbitrarily change the shape and span of the wings.

    Girlfriend for Toothless

In order for the little dragon not to get bored alone, you can sew him a girlfriend. It should be made according to the same pattern as Toothless himself, but with minor differences. So, it is advisable to make it from brighter materials - pink or yellow fabric is quite suitable.

An important feature is that the girlfriend must have a solid tail, so there is no need to add any extensions to it.

There are many more techniques in which the toy can be made. A developed imagination and skillful hands will help you create a unique craft.
