• How to wash roller blinds. How to wash roller blinds

    05.08.2019

    The modern design industry does not stand still and more and more beautiful things appear in the interior. One of the inventions recent years These are roller blinds. They are as beautiful as regular fabric curtains and as practical as blinds. Roller blinds are easy to use; a home with such an interior item looks stylish and cozy.

    Thanks to the special impregnation of such curtains, dust practically does not settle on them. And if it does shrink, it does not penetrate inside the canvas, but remains on the surface. This allows you to wash the curtains very rarely. If your curtains have lost their original appearance, you need to clean them.

    Dry cleaning of roller blinds

    To prevent the curtains from getting dirty and dust settling on them, the room should be ventilated periodically. The air flow simply blows away dust that cannot adhere to the special impregnation. In addition, you need to get used to the fact that roller blinds are another item that needs to be wiped off. Once every two weeks, wipe the curtains with a dry cloth as you would wipe polished furniture. This will not be difficult, but will allow you to keep the interior fresh for a long time.

    A vacuum cleaner can be used for active dry cleaning. Once every few months, go over the roller blinds with a vacuum cleaner to remove the smallest specks and dust. However, be careful that excessive suction power does not damage the fabric or leave creases and folds on it. To do this, you can buy or sew a special attachment for a vacuum cleaner, which will be used only for delicate cleaning of roller blinds. It is an ordinary fabric that is attached to the vacuum cleaner tube with an elastic band.

    Wet cleaning of roller blinds

    With sufficient and proper care, roller blinds do not require extensive washing for the first few years. But they need wet cleaning at least a couple of times a year. To do this, take a flannel cloth and soak it in warm water. Go over the entire curtain fabric, wiping every corner. After this, wipe the curtains with a dry cloth and leave them straightened so that they dry completely.

    Curtains should be protected from staining in every possible way. When cooking, the curtains should be raised to prevent splashes from splashing onto the surface. The same should be done if children draw near the windowsill. Preventing ink and marker stains is much easier than removing them.

    However, if stains do appear, they can be removed with a regular office eraser. The fact is that a stain falling on the treated coating does not eat into the structure of the fabric itself, but remains on the surface. Therefore, it is quite easy to remove using an eraser. If the eraser does not help, you can use special stain removers. Please note that they must be natural based. Stain removers for roller blinds should not contain chlorine or other aggressive components. Grease stains are very easy to remove wet wipes. They not only remove stains, but also do not leave streaks.

    But no matter how much you take care of your curtains, no matter how much you look after them, sooner or later there comes a time when it’s time to wash them.

    Remember that washing partially destroys the rolled fabric, so you should wash such curtains only when absolutely necessary. You cannot wash such curtains “For prevention”.

    1. First you need to assemble the curtains into a roll and remove the roller shutter. Different designs have different mechanisms, so if you can’t handle it, it’s better not to experiment and call a specialist. He will carefully remove the shutters and show you how to install them back, after which you can do it yourself.
    2. Wash roller blinds in washing machine forbidden. After this wash, they can be thrown into the trash. Hand wash only!
    3. For this you will need a bath. Fill the bottom of the bathtub with warm water and dissolve the detergent in it. This can be powder or laundry soap, the main thing is that the composition does not contain chlorine or other aggressive components. Make sure that the detergent is completely dissolved and there are no grains left in the water.
    4. Lower the roller shutter into the bathtub and carefully straighten one end of the curtain. Clean it with a soft brush or cloth, but very gently so as not to damage the protective coating.
    5. The washed part of the curtains should be rolled up, and the dirty part should be gradually unrolled. This way you can clean (wash) every corner of the roller blinds.
    6. After washing they need to be rinsed. This should be done in the shower, simply washing off the soapy water from the linen. The second way to rinse off soapy water is to fill the bathtub with water and then lower and raise the curtains in the water until they are clean. The curtains should be rinsed very thoroughly, otherwise the remaining soap stains will be visible after drying.
    7. Drying curtains also requires observing some nuances. Firstly, the curtains should not be wrung out and, God forbid, twisted. They are simply left in the bath until the water completely drains from them.
    8. After this, the curtains must be straightened and dried in a vertical position. In principle, they can be immediately hung in place and fully opened. Access is important fresh air and draft - open the windows.
    9. Under no circumstances should roller blinds be dried in a curled state. You cannot dry curtains on a clothesline. The formation of creases and folds is unacceptable.
    10. Do not dry roller blinds near heating appliances or a gas oven. High temperature deforms the fabric - it can curl, shrink, or, conversely, stretch.
    11. If folds do form, the curtains can be ironed. However, this must be done extremely delicately and only in exceptional cases. Curtains should be ironed at a moderate temperature, always through gauze.

    These simple rules will help you clean and refresh your roller blinds. If you are afraid of damaging the delicate coating, it is advisable to dry clean the piece of furniture. Experienced professionals know how to clean roller blinds and maintain their original appearance.

    Caring for roller blinds

    At first glance it may seem that care roller blinds requires a lot of effort. However, it is not. Timely cleaning will help you maintain the freshness and cleanliness of the coating, brightness and color saturation.

    Once a year, perform a preventive inspection of the curtain mechanism. It should be lubricated regularly with silicone spray. Operation of the chain mechanism should be as careful and delicate as possible - no need to pull too hard.

    Roller blinds should not be hung near radiators. They contribute to the deterioration of the quality of the fabric. High temperatures can cause curtains to fade or change shape. It is not recommended to hang roller blinds in rooms with high humidity - they will lose their properties.

    Any piece of furniture requires periodic cleaning, and roller blinds are no exception. If you regularly give them absolutely a small amount of time, they will look perfect for many years.

    How to care for roller blinds that cannot be washed?

    When purchasing such window decorations, you must immediately clarify whether the roller blinds can be washed by completely soaking them. Not all products tolerate washing well. There are models that cannot be wetted, because the composition is washed off along with the dust, which prevents the product from fading in the sun.

    So you finally got rid of those annoying old ladies - blinds. Now yours plastic windows hung with their rolled relatives with a “high-tech” coating, to which neither dust nor dirt sticks. Are you asking how to wash such an interesting and unusual curtain without dry cleaning, at home? There is nothing complicated about this - the most common inexpensive means at hand will be enough for you.

    Safety cloth

    If the anti-dust coating does its job and your curtains don’t get particularly dirty, then a simple damp cloth will be enough to clean them. Feel free to wipe curtains made of any material with it - it won’t harm them at all. But use only the softest cloth, with a microfiber structure. Walk over the roller curtains at least once a week.

    Yours is quite suitable for wiping curtains. old sock. But only if it is not wool, but, say, terry or cotton.

    If an ordinary cloth does not help much and your curtains are very dirty, then you will have to regularly clean them with a vacuum cleaner (regularly - this means at least 2-3 times a month).

    No harsh carpet cleaners! Use only soft, gentle attachment options.

    And keep in mind: too strong a jet of air can damage the rolled surface. Therefore, walk along the canvas with the nozzle very, very carefully. And if your vacuum cleaner can adjust the power, then when cleaning the roller blinds, always reduce it to a minimum.

    So, neither the cloth nor the vacuum cleaner really helped you. Dust and dirt have become very deeply embedded in the roller blinds. Well, there is no way out - you will have to wash the roller curtains.

    Remember right away: roller blinds are not allowed into the washing machine - after this, your roller blinds can only be used as a dog mat.

    But in an ordinary home bathroom, it’s very possible to wash roller curtains. But the truth here is that it is important what material they are made of: if plastic, vinyl or polyester, then “ water procedures“Your roller blinds are completely allowed. But if roller blinds are made from natural raw materials (for example, bamboo stems, jute fabrics or, for example, reeds), then you will have to limit yourself to stain removers (we’ll talk about them below) - immersing such “natural” roller blinds in the bathroom is strictly not allowed!

    Bamboo roller blinds cannot be washed in the bathroom

    arrow_left Bamboo roller blinds cannot be washed in the bathroom

    Most often, roller curtains are made from completely “washable” synthetic fabric- polyester (in 90% of cases).

    You need to wash roller blinds in the bathroom like this:

      First of all, you remove the rolled fabric from the shaft (that is, from the lifting mechanism) of the curtain.

      You carefully spread it out in the bathroom. And be sure to ensure that no creases or similar bruises appear on the fabric.

      You fill the bathtub with lukewarm water, but only about halfway. Add some cleanser with a neutral pH. If you don’t have one at hand, then just add a few teaspoons of regular dishwashing gel to the water.

      Stir the water until bubbles begin to appear.

      Keep the roller blind in this foamed solution for approximately 20-30 minutes.

      Then drain the water and wipe the fabric with a soft brush, sponge or cloth. This way you will finally clean the roller blinds from any remaining dirt.

      Now you pour clean water into the bathroom and wash off the soap suds from the roller blinds.

      Then wash the rolled fabric thoroughly under a good shower stream.
      Remember: if you wash the fabric poorly, expect disaster - caustic soap residues will make the fabric easily vulnerable, the sun's rays will easily discolor it, leaving “gifts” on it in the form of stains and stains.

      After a shower, hold the cloth in an upright position so that all the water drains from it. And don’t even think about wringing out the fabric - you’ll ruin it!

      Then place the curtain (flat and horizontal) on a drying rack and let it dry. Straighten the roller blinds on the dryer well, otherwise kinks will form that you can’t remove with anything later. By the way, many people advise drying roller blinds on a rope, but you better not do that - strong impulse wind can wrinkle the fabric and it will no longer be useful.

      If the fabric is not in a hurry to dry, use the tip of the iron (but only the tip, not the entire surface) to very, very gently stroke the linen seams. But be sure to put a damp cloth on them first. Don’t even think about touching the canvas itself with an iron, otherwise you’ll ruin not only it, but also the surface of the iron to boot! Drying roller blinds on a regular heating radiator is also strictly forbidden! Drying like this will cause the fabric to shrink, become dry and completely deteriorate.

    Remember: you cannot use aggressive detergents that contain many different fragrances and bleaching components with roller curtains. They will quickly ruin the color of the fabric, making it faded and faded.
    If the detergent is in powder form, be sure to ensure that it is completely dissolved in water, since individual large grains of sand can seriously damage the fabric.

    Well, you did it! Roller blinds are finally clean! Now all that's left is to attach them back to the lifting mechanism.

    Removing stains from roller blinds

    Have you seen stains on your roller blinds? Don’t panic, and don’t rush to take them to the dry cleaner. Getting rid of stains is actually very simple.

    Stationery eraser and toothbrush

    Don't forget that the curtain can be easily wrinkled. Therefore, before cleaning, lay out newspapers on the floor, and spread your roller blinds on top of them. If you don’t have newspapers at hand, then find old patterns made of thick paper and lay them down. By the way, some washed old sheet, which you don’t particularly care for, can serve as a “bedding” for the roller blind.

    Did you find a bedding and lay out a curtain? Well, that's great. Now take a regular rubber band or a toothbrush with soft bristles and carefully, but without excessive excitement, rub it over the stains. Believe me, you won’t have time to get tired - the curtain will be clean in just a couple of minutes.

    True, an eraser or a toothbrush most likely will not get rid of greasy and stubborn stains. But don’t rush to get upset - fortunately, there are better ways to deal with roll dirt.

    Special stain remover

    To get rid of stains that are deeply embedded in the fabric, you will need a special stain remover.

    Don’t even touch solvents like acetone or gasoline - roller blinds simply cannot tolerate them. They cannot tolerate various abrasive harsh products and chemical bleaches.

    You can easily find a suitable natural stain remover on the Internet.

    arrow_left You can easily find a suitable natural stain remover on the Internet.

    In general, use only natural-based products, otherwise the curtains will have to be scrapped or simply thrown away.

    So, you’ve finally found an absolutely safe stain remover for your curtains (thank you know-it-all Internet!). Then:

      Apply it to the greasy stain and do not rinse off as much as the instructions recommend.

      Then wash or clean the surface of the curtains.

    Well, if the dirt is so ingrained that even a super-duper natural stain remover doesn’t help, then you’ll have to throw out the white flag, admit that you can’t clean your fabric roller blinds on your own, and just take them to the dry cleaner.

    Well, for a snack, look at this excellent master class on washing roller curtains:

    Roller curtains are in no way inferior to ordinary standard curtains in terms of practicality, convenience and style.

    Having a special impregnation, dirt does not eat into the canvas, but remains on the surface, which greatly facilitates their cleaning.

    This allows you to wash them quite rarely. However, sooner or later this will have to be done.

    It will be useful for owners and potential buyers of this interior detail to know how to wash roller blinds, which is what this article will tell you about.

    The most acceptable frequency of cleaning them, in the form of vacuuming dust, is twice a month.

    A procedure such as washing should be used no more than once every six months. These are average conditional time indicators.

    If necessary, using some detergents, roller blinds can be cleaned once a month. It all depends on the degree of their contamination.

    Prohibited actions in care

    Any thing requires self-care and actions that cannot be used. Roller curtains are no exception; when starting to clean them, you need to know what not to do:

    • The most important prohibition is automatic washing, regardless of their material. Such actions will hopelessly ruin the canvas and a beautiful appearance is out of the question;
    • processing the fabric with aggressive chemicals (acetone, solvents, gasoline, etc.) is unacceptable;
    • some advise treating curtains with steam, not taking into account the fact that it can contribute to the disintegration of the dust-repellent coating;
    • After wet treatment, the roller blinds must be dried in a straightened form and in a horizontal position. Various bends and additions in several layers are unacceptable. If this happens, then it will no longer be possible to fix the curtain;
    • Ironing in the care of roller blinds will also do more harm than good. If this becomes necessary and you only need to iron a small part of the fabric, you can do this with the tip of the iron, at a minimum temperature and always through a damp cloth.
    • if the material of the solar control fabric is made of natural materials, such as bamboo, flax, reed, wood and the like, such curtains should absolutely not be washed;

    An excellent alternative to traditional curtains can be roller blinds, which are practical, convenient, modern and stylish look. Special impregnation of surfaces reduces the accumulation of dust on them.

    Fabric roller blinds are similar in purpose to plastic and wooden blinds. Their main difference is that the textiles in the room look cozy and homely.

    However, many people wonder how to clean roller blinds, how to wash them by hand or in a washing machine, which the article describes in detail.

    Typically, fabric curtains for roller blinds are made of polymer-impregnated textiles. Despite the apparent ease of caring for them, this is not always the case.

    To prevent the product from being damaged after the first wash or dry cleaning with your own hands, the instructions drawn up and attached to the product by the manufacturer must be strictly followed. This is due to the fact that some curtains can only be cleaned dry, while others can be washed using a wet wash.

    Advice: But you should always remember that frequent washing destroys the protective coating, which deteriorates the quality of the fabric.

    Before cleaning roller blinds at home, you need to keep in mind that:

    1. Polymer impregnation will begin to deteriorate when exposed to hot water;
    2. The fabric changes its characteristics when using chemical detergents;
    3. Regular gels and powders, especially aggressive cleaning products containing bleach, can ruin the color of the product.

    All manufacturers offer approximately the same advice on how to clean roller blinds.

    These include:

    • Periodic vacuuming is considered optimal and should be done every 2 weeks;
    • Major procedures, such as dry cleaning of roller blinds or washing, should be carried out twice a year. However, sometimes the intervals may be different. For example, it is better to clean fabric blinds every month using special detergents, or only dry-clean them. And the answer to the question whether roller blinds can be washed, how and with what, is decided by the manufacturer, and indicates this in the instructions for their use;
    • To reduce the rate of contamination, prevent the formation of stains, and maintain the neat condition of the canvases more long time, it is advisable to follow a few simple tips:
    1. You should not hang roller blinds on plastic windows in such a way that they are located in an area where there is an air curtain from heating devices. There must be a protective barrier, this could be a window sill.
    2. It is better to ventilate a room in a house where there are decorated fabric blinds at least once a day. It will be the best way to get rid of dust that settles on textiles.
    3. The worst place for roller blinds is a room where people smoke.
    4. Any stain that appears should be removed as quickly as possible. A dried old stain is very difficult to remove, and frequent use of stain removers or washing will quickly ruin it. appearance products.
    5. Bends and deformations of the canvas should not be allowed. You need to raise and lower it without sudden movements, smoothly.
    6. If condensation appears on the glass, the fabric may become moldy and deteriorate. To prevent this, curtains should be rolled up and glass should be wiped regularly.
    7. If the mechanism for raising and lowering the curtains jams, you need to fix it urgently. Replace the broken part and lubricate the mechanism with oil or silicone spray.

    Tip: The key to good condition of roller blinds is careful handling of the products. If they are installed in the kitchen, the canvas should be rolled up when cooking. When doing general cleaning or washing windows, the curtains should be lifted and placed in a protective tube.

    Keeping the room clean greatly helps to maintain the good appearance and condition of the roller shutters. Timely removal of accumulated dust on furnishings, regular wet cleaning, reduces the contamination of window decor, and it can be washed less frequently.

    Preparing items for washing

    Before washing roller blinds, the question is often asked: how to remove roller blinds for washing correctly?

    To do this you need:

    • Roll the fabric tightly into a roll;
    • Unhook the guide line, if present, and then the weight plugs sliding along it;
    • Remove the weighting material from the bottom of the fabric, if it is removable;
    • Remove the protective capsule;
    • Remove the fabric along with the winding pipe. To do this, carefully move the plug away with a screwdriver and remove the axle from the bracket.

    When installing a simpler model, mounted on a hanging bracket, you simply need to remove the fasteners from the window, and then unhook the shaft from them. In this case, roller blinds are attached with self-tapping screws or double tape.

    Unscrewing the screws is quite simple, but carefully peeling the tape off the brackets is a more difficult task. You must try not to damage the coating on the plastic frame and not to break the structure bracket itself for attaching the axle. When assembling the curtains, the tape must be replaced.

    Models whose price is high can be disassembled quickly and quite easily. The simpler the design, the more difficult the process of removing the curtains. In high-quality products, you can always replace the canvas, if necessary.

    Wash

    Many owners are interested in the question of how to wash roller blinds at home? Manufacturers of models with antistatic fabric impregnation do not recommend doing this. If the fabrics are made of simple or synthetic fabric that is not impregnated, there are no restrictions on washing.

    Before washing the roller blinds, the method of carrying out the work is selected. It can be done:

    1. Without removing the canvas from the fastening;
    2. After disassembling the structure.

    The choice of method depends on the size of the product and the owner’s skills in handling household equipment.

    Tip: Remove curtains from their fasteners only if there is a container the right size. This is due to the fact that the fabric should not be kinked during washing.

    Before you can properly wash your roller blinds at home, you need to purchase:

    • A container with a length exceeding the width of the canvas;
    • A brush with a stiffness corresponding to the density of the model’s fabric;
    • A stain remover that will be safe for the base material and antistatic coating;
    • Detergents that do not harm the material being processed;
    • Soft natural fabric;
    • Fan heater, in the absence of heating in the room, during work.

    After this, the following actions are performed:

    • The pipe for winding the fabric is removed from the brackets, as described above. This should be done carefully, without damaging the control mechanisms of the structure;
    • The fabric is carefully inspected for stains, adhered fragments and other contaminants;
    • Using a school eraser, try to remove large stains that stand out strongly on the fabric. Particularly large and voluminous fragments are pryed off or trimmed with a stationery knife;
    • To fragments not deleted mechanically, stain remover is applied. The time specified in the instructions for use of the composition is maintained;
    • Use a sponge to remove any remaining stain remover. If necessary, re-apply the stain remover;
    • The surface of the canvas is wetted with a cleaning solution. This should be done very carefully, without disturbing the structure of the fabric or damaging the designs printed on it. Wetting can be done with a spray bottle or a soap roller;
    • Wait until the solution darkens. This indicates that the dirt has become soft and has moved away from the fabric. Using light circular movements, wipe the surface of the canvas with a soapy sponge;
    • The curtain is thoroughly rinsed using a shower head while hanging, or by lowering the curtain into clean water. You can stop rinsing when the water flows out completely clean. When dry, detergent residue may leave stains;
    • The product is hung until all the water has drained.

    Tip: It is strictly forbidden to wash rolled products in a washing machine. With a long stay in water, the aesthetic properties of the material deteriorate, and torsion will disrupt its shape.

    Drying curtains

    After getting acquainted with the process of how to wash roller blinds on plastic windows, it is equally important to dry them properly so that the canvas does not deform and retains its original properties and geometry.

    When drying washed fabrics, you must adhere to some rules:

    • The curtain, after removing most of the moisture from it, is laid out on a flat surface until it dries completely. Water is removed from the fabric faster if a dense natural fabric is placed under the material;
    • The canvas can be hung on a flat and durable base, as in the photo. A slight draft or light breeze is allowed. However, caution must be exercised: strong air currents can cause fabric fibers to twist and stretch;
    • If creases form during use, you can get rid of them using an iron, which irons the fabric without high temperature through moistened gauze, from the wrong side, to prevent damage to the pattern on the curtain.

    Tip: Do not dry the product at high temperatures! The canvas may warp and lose shape. Drying roll models on heating radiators is strictly prohibited. The protrusions of the heaters will leave marks on the fabric that cannot be removed.

    Vacuuming

    Washing may not be used for all fabrics, but how to clean roller blinds with a vacuum cleaner?

    The set of such equipment includes attachments made of soft brushes, with which you can care for the products. If they are not very dirty, it is enough to clean the canvases weekly when putting things in order in the apartment, being careful not to break the fabric. It is almost impossible to correct such a defect.

    It is more difficult to clean solar roller blinds - how to wash such products placed in rooms with high humidity and grease fumes?

    In rooms such as the bathroom, dining room and kitchen, roller blinds get dirty much faster. In addition, a layer of organic deposits accumulates on them, which cannot be removed by a stream of air. Solves such problems by using a washing vacuum cleaner.

    How to clean roller blinds at home using such a device?

    For this:

    • Purchase a solution for washing fabrics with antistatic impregnation;
    • The washing vacuum cleaner is refilled according to the instructions and detergent supplied with it;
    • Roller blinds are laid in the rolled out position;
    • The canvas is rigidly fixed so that during processing it is stretched sufficiently tightly;
