Because all the fashionistas in the world seem to live somewhere at the latitude of Sochi and the icy wind never gets into the collar of their light coat (well, that’s pretty much how it is). Even the artificial cutting off of the southern territories does not help. I was looking street style from Stockholm Fashion Week in the hope of seeing some life hacks unknown to us to combat the cold. All I saw were the same bare legs in sandals (and socks, according to latest trends), running past the snowdrifts. Therefore, my first thought will be a little outrageous and, at first glance, in no way related to fashion. But don't worry, it will be followed by a second, more practical one, and many, many examples.
Yes, the fashion industry doesn't expect you to stand at a bus stop for twenty minutes. public transport in the wind and frost, cursing the Slavic ancestors, who had the idea to settle in the area of the gloomy banks of the Vistula (and then conquer Siberia), and not in the blessed lands, where in winter you can smoke for a long time in street cafes, wrapped in a blanket. I don’t want to play the role of Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev, in whose world every Russian family, in addition to a pink pony, owns a personal car... But if suddenly you consider buying a car as something completely separate from your budget for fashion and beauty, then stop considering it that way. Not a single fur coat, not a single sheepskin coat, not a single bag will do as much for your personal style as the oldest, most simple machine. When discussing fashion purchases, the question “is it worth saving” periodically comes up. For a fur coat, for a bag, for a Gucci sweater. So, my answer is: no. It's not worth saving for anything except a car.
My new wonderful world, in which I like myself in the mirror, began with a visit from stylists and the determination of half of the closet for scrap. And he continued by buying a car. And that’s when I was able to throw away the remaining creepy things “for warmth.” At least one layer of clothing was gone, which I had pulled on simply out of fear of breaking on the way to the metro. Gone are the fur-lined shoes - they are no longer needed anywhere except for walks in the park. The desire to pull boots higher, because they supposedly warm your feet, and cheaper, because they will be trampled by neighbors on transport or rendered unusable by winter reagents on the roads, has gone away. The Orenburg scarf finally stopped appearing a good option insulation (a woolen hat is enough).
That was my first thought. Thought two: it’s easy to write about stylish looks in winter. No, I didn’t report and didn’t get confused in the subordinate clauses. You can and should look good in any weather and any budget (and for many years I didn’t know how I looked, primarily because I didn’t pay attention to the issue and didn’t know the rules, and not because I was very cold without a car). It’s just that the colder it is, the fewer options there are. There are not so many clothes and options for combining them according to the “both stylish and warm” principle. Frankly speaking, not enough. Down jacket. Parka. Sheepskin coat. Thick tights. Woolen dress. Boots. Trousers and jeans. Skirt. And the difficulties begin when, in this cramped space, we begin to be overcome by attacks of creativity. What if the coat is for the winter, but warm? What about knee-high boots? Or maybe a fur vest (God forgive me) on a leather jacket? What if a down jacket with a circle-shaped hem and short sleeves? Let's talk about this.
Outerwear
Coat. The coat should be relatively thin. It is not intended for frost. Therefore, artificially insulated models of classic coats look monstrous and ridiculous. You definitely won’t look more elegant in such a coat.
Also, any variations on the theme of a raincoat coat are not suitable:
When you start to freeze in autumn coat and a sweater, it’s time to introduce heavy artillery in the form of a down jacket, parkas and sheepskin coats.
Down jacket. A successful down jacket comes in two types: a neat, thin jacket that can be worn under a coat or even, and volumetric version. At the same time, it is better not to wear a short jacket separately; it greatly simplifies the look (especially together with jeans and boots - and this is the number one most popular look in our latitudes during the cold season).

Sheepskin coat. Again, quite spacious models, as if taken from the shoulders of American pilots, are relevant. Without shine, varnish and any special delights. I'm not sure about the heat-saving qualities of models made from artificial materials. So this story likely won't be cheap. And the question remains open with a buttoned sheepskin coat (which doesn’t look nearly as cool as an unbuttoned one). Therefore, you should try on very carefully and take time to think and calmly look at the photographs taken in the fitting room.
Parka. The most win-win type of winter clothing. The most successful colors are natural. Green, khaki, olive, yellow. Nice models you can safely start looking in sports stores (just check what temperature the item is designed for, there are different variants). And continue (if you wish) in designer boutiques. I don’t recommend black, there is already a huge amount of it in any wardrobe. And again without unnecessary details and glamor. I already thought that nothing could spoil the park at all, but it turns out it can. Some kind of incomprehensible drawstring rising to the chin - and that’s it, a good thing has disappeared.
Don’t be clever, take the simplest options:
Fur coat. I don’t like them and I think their value in fighting the cold is greatly exaggerated. For the cost of a more or less decent fur coat, you can buy at least two expensive and very warm parkas. I won’t even talk about the works of art in the form of a robe.
For outerwear too. Don't look at the numbers (42, 44, 58 - it doesn't matter). A winter outerwear should not be too tight and should leave room for a jacket, sweatshirt or jacket that you will inevitably wear underneath.
Dresses and skirts
For some reason they are unpopular in winter. Apparently they are considered cold. But the ugly version of “tights + trousers + boots + sweater” is extremely popular. In fact, wearing thick tights and a thick skirt or dress (wool, cotton) is no colder than wearing trousers. And much more beautiful. And there is no such inconvenience intimate question like “what to do with tights in the office.” It’s hot to leave them under your trousers, and taking them off somewhere in the toilet is a chore. If you are desperately, well, simply impossible, cold on the way to work (and I understand this well), then it’s easier to put on a ski suit warm suit over dense simple dress than on top of something complex. And get there like that (and go to meetings in a thin coat and by taxi, but how could it be otherwise). Below is a selection of the correct ones winter skirts and dresses. Where we see bare legs, we do not fall into sacred horror. We mentally pair these images with thick black, gray or brown tights without glitter. Both sweater dresses and sweatshirt dresses, not to mention wide cocoon dresses, should fit loosely.

At half the price of the Boss sweater we discussed, I think it invites closer acquaintance. I haven’t held it in my hands, but judging by the photo, the dress is good (though it may be a little short). 
Trousers
It is unlikely that you will be able to refuse them completely. But remember that boots are still not allowed. Therefore, it is better not to wear office trousers, but to wear jeans or chinas. Wear a warm (and long!) sock underneath. And over the sock - a low boot.
Again he sets an example for us men's fashion. The sock can be contrasting (for the brave) and with a pattern. Or maybe some neutral blue color.
Shoes
Boots. Here is also an example of an extremely overrated wardrobe item. There are almost no truly beautiful boots that fit well on your feet in nature. Even what is sold in Chanel and Gucci does not cause wild delight. Not to mention some Tervolina. Yes, photos from the show can be perfect. But we're not on display. At the show they will never show you thick boots with fur inside (they have no idea why this is at all). On display, the stiletto heel will not slide on the ice and will not fall into a snowdrift.
It’s also unclear what to combine with. It's bad with trousers, only skirts and dresses remain. But even better with them are boots that lengthen the leg and look more expensive than they cost (unlike boots, which are exactly the opposite).
