    10 ideas - DIY Christmas tree decorations (video)

    How to make Christmas tree decorations (video master class 21 ideas):

    Today we showed how to make Christmas balls with your own hands, without unnecessary financial and time costs, such beautiful decorations They will definitely not go unnoticed, and your friends will certainly appreciate all your efforts.

    Good afternoon friends!

    As I already told you, I love browsing Pinterest looking for new ideas. And just the other day I came across a stunningly beautiful Christmas tree toy there – the one in the photo. This decoration of New Year's balls is made by machine embroidery.

    And at the end of the article I will tell you how such beauty can be made without even knowing how to embroider, knit, or sew.

    DIY New Year's ball decor using lace. Master Class

    I found the master class here:

    My translation

    To decorate New Year's balls with lace you will need:

    • bright New Year's balls,
    • water-soluble stabilizer,
    • sewing machine,
    • satin ribbons, braid, beads
    • sewing needle and multi-colored threads,
    • scissors,
    • cup with water.

    First of all, we measure the height of the ball from the base to the lid with a loop, by which the ball is usually suspended, and the width of the ball at its widest part.

    Thus, we determine the size of the future lace.

    Lace for decorating New Year's balls is embroidered on a water-soluble stabilizer. We insert the latter into the hoop and under the machine.

    The whole process is well shown in the video (in the language of needlework).

    The needle in the machine moves quite quickly. I don’t really know how it’s possible to embroider intricate, complex patterns at such speed?

    For one ball we make two identical blanks.

    We trim off the excess stabilizer around the perimeter around the embroidered fragment and soak the lace in water according to the instructions for the stabilizer.

    We take the lace out of the water; all the excess material around it has dissolved!

    Usually this lace is allowed to dry, but in our case, to decorate the New Year’s ball, you need to give the element a curved shape, so it will be more convenient to work with raw material.

    We place the two parts facing each other and sew them together at the edges in the wide lower part with a needle and thread.

    Turn it right side out and place the piece on the ball.

    All that remains is to insert the braid at the top of the lace and tie it, attracting the lace elements to each other. Beauty!

    I admired and admired these balls just like .

    Various patterns for embroidering similar lace for New Year's balls are available on the source's website.

    Additionally, you can decorate New Year's balls with beads, beads, various crystals, ribbons, feathers and anything else your imagination tells you.

    Decor of New Year's balls... oilcloth

    Did you understand everything in this master class? No to me. I didn't know what a water-soluble stabilizer was.

    I went to Google and found out what this thing was. A water-soluble stabilizer is used in machine embroidery as a base; it is a film that is placed under or on the fabric. After embroidering the pattern, it can be easily removed. Water-soluble stabilizers, so far only foreign-made, can be bought in online stores.

    Skilled embroiderers can make wonderful decorations for New Year's balls with their own hands. These vintage laces will add elegance and your Christmas tree will be unique and fabulously beautiful!

    But what should we do if we don’t know how to embroider?

    Decoration of New Year's balls with lace can be done either with bobbin lace, or lace woven using the macrame technique, depending on your ability. Or you can just buy ready-made lace and decorate the balls with them.

Each of them is interesting in its own way and has its own characteristics. In this article we will look at various ways making a Christmas tree decoration - a ball using a variety of materials.

    How to make a New Year's ball with your own hands - openwork balls for the Christmas tree

    To make such a toy you will need balloon, thick thread, for example, iris, PVA glue, fatty cream and glitter for decoration. Initially, you need to inflate the balloon to the desired size and grease it with cream. Then it is entangled with thread, but not too tightly - at first there should be small gaps. The resulting structure is generously smeared with PVA glue, or you can simply immerse it in glue and, after taking it out, sprinkle it with glitter. Next, you need to wait some time (usually at least a day) for the frame to dry completely, puncture the balloon and remove it. As a result, it will remain very light, transparent and beautiful. Christmas ball.

    Openwork balls for the Christmas tree can be made using this method and using lace. In this case, lace elements are glued to the inflated balloon. Then everything happens the same as with the thread - the frame is enveloped in glue, after drying the ball is pierced and removed. This design is a little more painstaking, since it is necessary to carefully apply the lace to avoid the formation of humps and folds, however, such an openwork ball will look much more attractive, especially if you complement it with decorative elements: sparkles, beads, etc.

    Openwork ball for the Christmas tree

    It is worth noting that such production of a Christmas tree toy - a ball - is not labor-intensive. This method does not require any special material costs or effort, so it is quite popular among craftswomen. The main thing is to follow the instructions, and also study photos of DIY Christmas balls.

    DIY fabric balls for the Christmas tree

    This option will do for lovers of cozy home textiles. The basis of such a ball can be polystyrene foam or a hand-made round stuffed bag. Next, it comes down to fantasy. You can simply wrap the base with a small piece of beautiful fabric, decorating it with bows and ribbons. Small scraps can be used to make ruffles or other shaggy decoration.

    The basis for such toys is old Christmas tree balls that are already fed up - the new fabric design will breathe life into them new life. Such fabric balls will bring an element of comfort and warmth to the interior of the room, decorate it adequately, and will also look stylish on the New Year tree.

    Making a Christmas tree toy - a paper ball

    Before you do New Year's toys- DIY Christmas tree balls, it is worth noting that there are quite a few techniques for making such paper products. But all of them, as a rule, come down to one principle - fragments of one shape or another are cut from paper (provided by the technique), and then they are fastened together, taking the shape of a ball.

    When making a Christmas ball toy, you can use paper of different structure and color - this will make them more original.

    Balls made of white paper are usually decorated with beads and sparkles, and bright ribbons are used as thread. In order not to introduce excessive “clutter,” you should choose balls of one or two shapes (possibly of different sizes) to decorate the Christmas tree. Some craftswomen make truly unique balls from paper containing photographs from their personal photo archive.

    How to make Christmas balls for the Christmas tree with your own hands: tied

    Tying the balls can be done using knitting needles or a crochet hook. In any case, the toy will turn out to be very attractive and unique. This option is not often found - it is only gaining popularity. As a rule, threads of different colors are used, but if knitting a pattern is tedious, you can use melange threads.

    The knitting method involves creating a dense shell around the base, which can be either a foam ball or an old Christmas tree toy. Crocheting involves “dressing” a Christmas tree ball in elegant openwork outfits, creating a unique pattern on it. Therefore, for crocheting you need to choose a beautiful Christmas ball bright color, different from the shade of the thread (a combination of a white thread with a blue, red or yellow ball will look beautiful).

    How to make a New Year's ball with your own hands using the decoupage technique

    Decoupage is essentially an appliqué that is glued to a surface. Most often, the material used is napkins with a pattern, which can take any shape and adhere well to glass, wood and other surfaces. The base ball must be thoroughly degreased using suitable means. Apply a coat of paint using a roller or sponge.

    Any Christmas ball must first be painted with acrylic paint and only then proceed to gluing napkins. For creating rich color you can put two or three layers

    The next step is gluing the napkin. The pattern is applied to the surface of the ball and, using a brush, is smeared with glue (regular PVA glue or special decoupage glue). When applying glue, it is necessary to smooth out all wrinkles and, at the same time, remove air bubbles. This is quite delicate work - it is important not to damage the drawing. After the drawing is applied, you need to wait until it dries completely. To better preserve such a surface, it is additionally treated with a varnish layer, which will reliably protect it from moisture and fading. To ensure that the image is preserved for a long time, a layer of varnish is applied at least three times. At the final stage, the finished balls can be decorated with artificial snow, which is commercially available, or you can make it yourself by adding semolina to white acrylic paint.

    DIY decorated Christmas tree balls

    Balls from various materials: plastic, foam, glass, fabric and others - they are available in a wide range in craft stores. Foam blanks are considered the most convenient option., since they can not only be pasted over with decorative elements, but also needles, pins and pins can be stuck into them, if this or that technique requires this. Any materials are used as decorations: beads, sparkles, scraps of fabric, buttons, ribbons, sequins and other elements - it all depends on human fantasy. Color palette at the same time, it is also not limited and allows a varied combination of shades.

    Conclusion

    In conclusion, I would like to note that hand-made Christmas tree balls should, first of all, please the eye, being a real “highlight” among other decorations. Don't be afraid to experiment and follow standard patterns exactly.

    Vintage ball "Lace"

    We have already talked about the decoupage technique in, but it is better to make this ball in a separate chapter. The ball is not just beautiful, it is exclusive. Everyone can add personal touches to its execution, and the uniqueness of the vintage New Year's ball will amaze any guest. And to the question: “How much does such beauty cost,” you will smile contentedly. To make it you will need:

    • foam ball;
    • lace, preferably made of cotton and with a large pattern;
    • glue;
    • acrylic paints at your discretion;
    • brushes for glue and paint;
    • sponge.

    As you can see, nothing supernatural is required. The progress of the work is also not complicated.

    • First, coat the ball with PVA glue.
    • Glue the cut out pieces of lace onto it. Of course, the design must be thought out in advance.

    • The next step is to prime our pattern with white acrylic. The layers are applied evenly. Try to paint right through the lace. Despite the sufficient thickness and unevenness of the surface, try to avoid streaks.

    • Now it’s time to tint our ball. After the soil has completely dried, begin painting the ball with darker paint. Bronze, silver or old gold will look especially good.

    • Take a piece soft fabric, or better yet, use a sponge and quickly blot the entire ball. Now we need coverage heterogeneity.
    • We rub until traces of the dark tone remain only in the recesses of the lace.
    • We attach the thread and bow.

    We admire the delicate pattern of old lace on the surface of the ball, as if purchased several centuries ago. Using this technique, you can tint the balls however you want. For example, take bronze as the main tone, and use dark brown as the second

    Do you want to deviate from the rules? Please! Cover the lace with gold paint before gluing, and paint the ball with oxidized copper. Then randomly apply gold in a highly diluted concentration. Go over it with a sponge and stick on the lace. An extraordinary combination!

    Or you can leave the balls white. Then their snow-whiteness will resemble pure snow.

    Graceful spider web balls

    Openwork ephemeral balls-webs made of threads look very attractive not only in New Year's decor. When you see such beauty, it doesn’t even occur to you that you can create something similar with your own hands, without serious financial expenses and special handmade skills. And they will bring much more joy and moral satisfaction than those purchased for money in a souvenir shop. They can be used simply as stylish element decor, both as an original lampshade, casting fancy shadows, and as unusual New Year's toys, as opposed to traditional glass balls. From several web balls of different diameters you can make all kinds of toys: snowmen, fish, birds. In general, everything is limited only by your imagination.

    To make Christmas balls from threads we will need:

    • any yarn
    • air balloons
    • Vaseline or any fatty cream
    • PVA glue
    • scissors
    • Bowl
    • ribbons, ribbons, beads, beads, rhinestones for decorating balls

    How to make New Year's spider web balls from yarn

    1. We dilute PVA glue with water in a ratio of approximately 3 to 1.
    2. We inflate the balloons to the size of the future product. Each ball needs to be given round shape and tie it with thread. Be sure to leave a loop to make it convenient to hang the balls to dry.
    3. Rewind required amount yarn, place in a bowl with adhesive solution and leave for five minutes.
    4. To make the balls easier to separate from the frozen thread, lubricate them with any thick cream, Vaseline or sunflower oil.
    5. We wrap the balls with yarn soaked in glue, first leaving a large distance between the threads, and then gradually reducing it until the entire ball is wrapped in yarn and looks like a cocoon. You can try to create a simple ornament, or you can wrap the ball completely randomly. In any case, the result will be excellent!
    6. Cut the thread and glue it to the ball. The next stage is drying. We hang the balls in a secluded warm place and leave them for at least a day.
    7. Now we need to separate the balloons from the thread. To unstick the thread frame from the ball, carefully press each rubber ball with your fingers. Then we pierce the balloons and deflate them. Now the balloon can be easily removed through any suitable sized hole in the thread cocoon. We carefully take out the balls so as not to damage our marvelous creations. We tie a fancy rope to the top of the ball for fastening. Wow! The ball is ready!

    To make spider web balls, you can use yarn of any color. Alternatively, you can paint it with any spray paint or glitter spray already ready product. Christmas balls made from threads will look great with decorative bows, tinsel, rain, stars, beads, sparkles, rhinestones. We hang small balls on the Christmas tree, and decorate the room with large ones. Let your imagination run wild!

    If you are unable to wind glue-soaked thread around the ball, wind dry thread, and then use a sponge or brush to thoroughly saturate it with glue.

    Clue: glue can be replaced with starch paste or sugar syrup. To prepare the paste, you need to take three teaspoons of starch in a glass of cold water, mix thoroughly and bring to a boil. If instead of yarn you wind it on balls copper wire, the result will also be very interesting and extraordinary.

    Handmade Christmas tree toys

    Using stencils and gouache, you can place these wonderful guys on your windows! It is unlikely that you will want to part with them after the New Year

    Materials.

    Plastic balls;

    Acrylic primer;

    Acrylic paints;

    Voluminous lace;

    Wax polish;

    Burnt umber oil paint;

    Texture paste;

    PVA glue;

    Colored wax patina;

    Thinner No. 4;

    Palette knife;

    Foam sponge;

    Progress.

    Apply to plastic ball layer of acrylic primer white. Let the layer dry. If desired, you can apply several layers of primer.

    We cut out suitable pieces from the voluminous lace. Glue them to the surface of the ball using a brush and PVA glue. We apply glue under the lace and on top.

    In this way we decorate the entire surface of the ball, creating volumetric patterns from lace. After the glue has dried, apply a layer on top of the lace acrylic paint white.

    On a palette, mix wax and dark brown oil paint. Apply colored wax to the surface of the lace using a brush.

    We rub the wax into the volumetric surface with a foam sponge or sponge, thereby revealing the relief. Using a cloth with a solvent, remove excess wax, brightening the surface spaces between the lace and the protruding parts of the lace.

    Now let the patina dry for several hours. If desired, the surface can be protected with alcohol varnish. The varnish should be applied in two layers, allowing each layer to dry thoroughly. The varnish will allow you to wipe the surface with a damp cloth. All we have to do is decorate the ball with ribbons. To do this, cut off a few pieces decorative ribbons, different in color, width and composition.

    It is better if you choose shades that are close in tone. We stack the ribbons one on top of the other and tie a neat bow on top of the ball. We make a pendant from a gold decorative rope. The decoration for our Christmas tree is ready!
