The most pleasant and exciting thing is getting ready for the trip. It’s scary to even remember that on my first trip, packing my suitcase turned into a real disaster for me. Not knowing what to put in my suitcase, I went on vacation, and “my 10 suitcases were traveling with me.” Now, through trial and error, I have a list of everything I need, which I use as a guide.
Packing a suitcase is an art. When we go on vacation, we always face the problem of what to put in our suitcase so that we don’t have to waste our time and be left without the most necessary things on vacation. Therefore, you should always figure out in advance what you will desperately need and what you can refuse.
The basic rule is a minimum of things. This point is difficult to complete, because when you get ready, it seems that both this and that might come in handy.
When getting ready to travel, be sure to check the functionality of zippers, combination locks, and locks (don’t forget to take the key). Unfortunately, we all know that it is quite popular for luggage to be opened by craftsmen at airports, so take everything valuable in your hand luggage.
Oh, and also, there are now new restrictions on the presence of liquids in hand luggage, so you won’t be able to take a bottle of water with you - you’ll have to put it in your luggage! Find out more details from your tour operator or at the airport so you don’t have to worry later.
So, first of all, you need to not forget (!) everything Required documents. It is better to keep them with you in your pocket or in a place that is easily accessible to you (!), so that during numerous controls at the borders you do not have to rummage through all your luggage upside down. The main thing on vacation (especially if it’s on the beach), of course, is a swimsuit! We definitely take it (preferably there are two of them), and a matching pareo, headdress, and bag. A Panama hat or a hat will be very useful for those young ladies who are prone to sunstroke. Take a tunic or a light robe dress - light, comfortable, feminine, they are ideal for going to the beach. Just please don’t wear this to a restaurant (it looks disgusting). AND Sunglasses do not forget! You can immediately put them on your head as a hoop (although this is considered bad form).
Don't forget about a pre/after tanning cream based on your skin type. It’s better to buy everything at home than to overpay for it at the resort.
An important item are flip-flops/shales, in which you will be comfortable walking both on the sand and around the hotel grounds. Take shoes that have been tested by walking, so that you don’t suddenly find out that they are rubbing your feet (this is a common phenomenon in hot weather). Plus, such shoes should be reliable and not tear after the first trips to the beach. Finding new flip flops that suit your taste, are comfortable, and at a reasonable price at the resort can be a challenge, especially for those on a tight budget!
Be sure to bring shorts! This is universal clothing for all occasions. You can wear them to the beach, to the dining room, or on an excursion - convenient and practical.
Preference should be given in clothing natural fabrics that “breathe” and won’t make you sweat even more. In 40 degree heat this is very important!
For excursions I choose open comfortable shoes like sandals without heels, then sometimes hours of climbing mountains/caves/ruins will not be stressful, and sore and tired feet will not spoil the impression of what you see. Believe me!
For going to a disco, I take sandals (it’s worth considering that in some hotels there is a disco on the beach, so heels are obviously not suitable, and if you end up at a foam disco, then the foam will cause your feet to slide very much in open heeled sandals, so much so It’s very likely that you will either have to take off your shoes or immediately wash your feet somewhere, so take these nuances into account...
In total, we have 3 pairs of shoes: for the beach (by the way, if you prefer pebble beaches, then you simply need slippers for going into the sea), hiking and entertainment (for those who like to wear even flip-flops with small heels, I advise you to choose a platform, because... because in many hotels the area is paved, and rubbing your heels on the joints of the tiles is not very pleasant).
For an evening, you shouldn’t take more than 2 types of clothes - they simply won’t be useful. The first is a dress (shouldn’t be too frilly or too simple), the second is some breeches/trousers + top/blouse. Be sure to bring accessories with you, you can use them to customize your day/evening outfit.
I take a few tops - a couple or three, usually this set is enough.
It is advisable to choose things that do not wrinkle, because... Ironing is paid, and not everyone can afford it, especially if it’s done every day. Although one of my friends carries with her...an iron (she says that she can’t bear her own burden :-)).
In the evening it can be unseasonably cool, with a “very invigorating” wind blowing from the sea, so for evening walks on the beach a windbreaker/light sweater/cardigan will be very appropriate.
A must-have item is to take a first aid kit with you! Many people do not tolerate changes in climate and food well, so in the first days stomach upsets are common (be sure to take Regidron with you), in addition, the days of female malaise (forgive me for writing about this) may begin earlier or too late(be sure to bring personal hygiene products with you). If you have chronic diseases, etc. - take your medicine! And it is advisable if you have a certificate from the clinic with a diagnosis and contraindications for medications. It's no secret that the most common health problems on vacation are crashes digestive system, sunburn, temperature. Therefore, take care of yourself!
Don’t forget personal hygiene products: shampoo, soap (the hotel provides these, but usually not very High Quality- or their stocks are not replenished as often as we would like). I always take a beach towel (waffle) with me. Why waffle? Firstly, it takes up little space in the suitcase, and secondly, it is easier to wash and dry. In many hotels there is a confusion with beach towels, because... It is not allowed to take towels out of the room, and it is not immediately clear where to get beach towels (besides, it happens that there are not always enough of them, or they are paid). Toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, etc. – all this should go with you to the resort).
Don't take too much cosmetics - they float terribly in the heat; the bare minimum is enough.
A camera, a video camera, batteries and accumulators – we take all this in hand luggage. By the way, for those who are traveling to Turkey for the first time, know: electronics in Turkey are very expensive, so be sure to take batteries with you.
Don’t forget the travel kit, which should include a needle case and threads, a pin, and scissors (at the hotel, of course, you will find this item, but it may also come in handy on the road).
Now the most important thing is how to put things in a suitcase:
- first of all, shoes should be placed at the bottom of the suitcase/bag (I always put them in a bag); - “heavy” clothes (cardigan, sweater) go after the shoes;
- for skirts and trousers there is a place in the middle of the suitcase;
- blouses (if you take them) are better to be folded together so that there are no folds left on them, the sleeves are folded in the shape of the letter “U”;
- heavily wrinkled items are padded with knitwear, for example, T-shirts, tops, to soften creases;
- I roll up wrinkle-resistant items with a roller and place them “standing” in any free space;
- before/after tanning products, etc. are also sent to available spaces.

Several years ago, I also took a lot of extra and, as it turns out later when traveling, unnecessary things. Over time, I learned to take only the essentials, and on trips to Europe or Russia during the off-season, I only go with a backpack. I’ll tell you below an example of how this happens!
So, on an April trip to the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria and Italy (about 20 days), my things easily fit into a backpack. I also went to St. Petersburg for 12 days in May with a backpack. I definitely travel with a backpack for 3-4 days. For example, now I have returned from Kazan in September, where all my things were also placed in a backpack!
I want to immediately convince you that a backpack can fit a LOT of things, the main thing is to follow a few simple, but important rules! So, let's go - how to pack a suitcase or backpack correctly?
Bathroom accessories
The most important rule to follow is to never do not take full-size products(shampoos, balms, shower gels, etc.). These items add the most weight to your suitcase! Many people buy such products while they are already on vacation, and in principle, this is also a way out. But not for me. Firstly, I’m used to using certain products that may not be available in the store. Secondly, the first thing I want to do when I arrive at my destination is take a shower, and not look for a store to buy shampoo, conditioner, etc. That's why I bottle my favorite products in special miniature containers from Ikea. I also take miniature toothpaste and soap.
For my hair when traveling, I use an absolute trio: a compact Tangle Teezer comb, an elastic band and a hair band, which I use when washing my face and applying makeup.
Care products
The approach to care products is the same as to bath accessories. I also bring face/hand cream and body balm in miniatures, if their packaging is large for my reasons.
Cosmetics
Since I’m talking about the example of a trip in the off-season, during this period, of course, cosmetics have a special tribute (when going to the sea, for example, I keep it to a minimum). From cosmetics, I take basic products that I use daily. If the packaging is bulky, I try to replace it with another product. If this foundation in heavy packaging, poured a small amount of into a miniature.
As an accent from decorative cosmetics I most often use lipsticks and lip pencils, so when I travel I take two/three variations - for everyday makeup and makeup for going out.
Clothes and shoes: 5 important rules
We've come to the hardest part - collecting clothes! My minimum set of clothes that fits in a backpack most often consists of two pairs of jeans/trousers, a couple of light jumpers/sweatshirts, two/three tops/T-shirts, one dress. There are several important rules when collecting clothes.
First rule: in order to pack your suitcase correctly, take only those things that are easy to combine with each other. For every thing that I take with me, there is an unspoken rule - if this thing is combined with others in at least 3 looks, then it suits me, and I take it with me! For example, a denim dress that can be worn both as a dress and as a shirt, tied at the waist.
The only exception can be a small one black dress(well, or any other - to your taste). Although, even this black dress can be easily tucked up and worn as a top with jeans!
Second rule when choosing clothes: give preference to lighter things and leave the heavy ones at home. Sometimes I cheat: choosing light, non-bulky things allows me to take an extra dress or jumper)
Third rule: When you pack your things, roll them up so they take up less space!
Fourth rule concerns shoes. I take only comfortable shoes, and they should be combined with all the chosen items. Most often these are two pairs of shoes: comfortable sneakers and some boots that can be worn with both a dress and jeans.
Fifth rule, also related to shoes: when I travel, I wear heavier shoes, and I put lighter ones in my backpack! Both pairs should be comfortable!
Accessories
For accessories, I take with me a small bag and a fabric tote, which fold easily and perfectly into a backpack. During the day, when traveling, I travel with a backpack, and in the evening, when I go out, I take a small bag. A shopping bag - for unexpected purchases.
Among mandatory accessories in my backpack there will always be one snood or stole, as well as a light scarf with which I cover my head when entering a church/monastery. This scarf always travels with me and takes up about a gram of weight.
Like any girl, I add jewelry to my looks, so when traveling with a minimum amount of clothing, bright, unusual accessories will always save you. Lately I've been loving brooches
Or it could be a collar/necklace. I also take sunglasses with me.
Gadgets
The minimum set of gadgets on my trip is a lightweight Panasonic Lumix GF6 mirrorless camera, an iPhone 5s and an old Transcend player with my favorite music.
Important things
One of the important details is vision glasses, these are my second eyes, I can’t live without them. I also include a wallet with cash and cards, and a flash drive for photos in this category. In my backpack you can always find a notebook with a pen because... when traveling, I always write down the most important important information, which I collect bit by bit for the blog, I keep booklets and tickets as souvenirs.
It seems like I’ve listed so many things here that it won’t all fit into my backpack! But I assure you, this is not so. The basic contents I showed as an example today fit easily into my backpack. The main thing is to train yourself and reassure yourself that these things will really be enough for you!

Much depends on the age of the baby. For a child under three years old, several sets of clothes will be enough, as it is better to save space for a first aid kit. A girl or boy over 6 years old will need several pairs of shoes, shorts, and T-shirts, because at this age they are more mobile and the likelihood of damage to clothes increases; they may not be affordable to buy in another country, and it is not very convenient to wash them in a hotel.
