• Unpretentious indoor plants for beginners. The most unpretentious and tenacious indoor plants

    27.12.2018

    Many plants can decorate our lives without requiring much time-consuming hassle in return. We offer you a list of the most unpretentious indoor plants.

    These plants can be replanted every few years; they perfectly tolerate the conditions of apartments with their dry air, put up with a lack of light and irregular watering. In general, ideal plants for people who are very busy or absent-minded: the most difficult thing is to purchase, and further care will not take much effort.

    1. Place on the windowsill for aloe(Aloe) was always there. Somewhere between ficus and geranium. But they valued it not for its beauty, but for its exceptional vitality and benefits. Prickly, splayed, clinging to the curtain, but extremely tenacious, ready to endure any hardships and hardships - heat in summer, cold in winter, shade and sun, long absence of water and poor rocky soil. At the same time, he is a wonderful healer, he cures everything - from a cut to consumption.

    And in order to somehow ennoble this wonderful plant, they came up with a a beautiful legend as if it blooms only once every hundred years. That's what they called it - agave.

    In fact, agave, also known as tree aloe, our most popular species, refuses to bloom solely due to lack of heat and light. And only in our climate zone. And in its homeland (in the deserts of South Africa, on the Cape Land), from each bunch of thick twisted and prickly leaves, a rather large peduncle with a brush or spike of bright orange or yellow-red, less often white, tubular flowers grows annually.

    For the ability of cut branches to live for years without soil and water, receiving all the necessary substances from the air, and at the same time to bloom, the ancient Assyrians gave it the name “patience” - “sabr”.

    Now sabr, or sabur, is the name given to the evaporated, condensed and hardened juice of different types of aloe (A. succotrina, A. vera, A. plicatilis, A. perryi and others). It is obtained from cuts of leaves cut in March and April and placed in special troughs. Then it is concentrated in copper boilers (as they do in the West Indies). And in the Cape Province, the flowing juice is collected in a hole dug in the ground and covered with goatskin, and then boiled in cast iron vessels.

    This substance and also Fresh Juice aloe possess healing properties, and they have been used in medicine since ancient times. As befits medicines, they are very bitter, which, in fact, is reflected in the botanical name of the plant: aloe means “bitter thing.”

    2. This plant competes with this plant for the title of “room doctor.” Kalanchoe(Kalanchoe). This is a representative of the Crassulaceae family, which has perfectly adapted to the lack of water, which is stored in its fleshy leaves. Crassulaceae are decorative due to the unusual shape (and often color) of leaves and, of course, flowers. Relatively small in size, they usually have brightly colored petals and are also collected in large inflorescences, sometimes quite original forms.

    IN folk medicine Kalanchoe has a reputation as a miracle cure for almost any disease. This is not entirely true, since Kalanchoe is credited with both its own properties and the virtues of aloe. Therefore, “home recipes” using Kalanchoe should not be unconditionally trusted.

    For example, its juice is often recommended to treat a runny nose. And although Kalanchoe juice is not as caustic as that of the even more popular aloe, it must be used with great care. The properties of the juice vary depending on the age of the plant, the season and even the weather. In some cases, undiluted juice (as recommended in recipes) can burn the delicate mucous membrane of the nose.

    Kalanchoe differs from its relatives in its special flower structure: while in most Crassulaceae the number of all flower parts is a multiple of five, then Kalanchoe has four sepals, petals, pistils and eight stamens. Babies appearing in huge numbers along the edges of its jagged leaves are a classic example of “viviparity” in plants.

    3. Crassula(Crassula) already has the reputation of a “money tree”. Equally unpretentious in care, it is considered a symbol of prosperity, as well as a Feng Shui talisman that attracts people to the house material well-being. You can safely check how well such recommendations work: the fat woman is unlikely to wither even in the hands of an inveterate lazy person.

    The name of the genus comes from the Latin word crassus - “thick”: the crassulas have succulent, fleshy leaves and stems. It was nicknamed the “Money Tree” because its leaves resemble coins. Although in fact the leaves of Crassulas are not only round, but also oval, ovoid, cylindrical and even triangular shape. They are painted in all shades of green, from dark to light green. The leaf surface is usually glossy or matte, but in some species they may be pubescent, such as the bearded crassula (C. barbata).

    Crassulas are not too demanding to care for. Thanks to their unpretentiousness, they easily survive entire generations, calmly enduring all the vicissitudes of indoor living. Lighting is preferably good, but without direct sunlight. Crassulas will not die even in light partial shade. Especially if you take the plants out into the garden, onto the balcony or terrace for the summer. By the way, if you combine “free summer maintenance” with a cool dormant period in winter, old specimens can bloom. The inflorescences of Crassulas are a loose semi-umbrella or a multi-flowered dense head. The color of the flowers is white, pink, yellowish, red. The flowers have a pleasant aroma.

    In summer, fat plants are fed every two weeks (fertilizers for cacti and succulents are suitable). Transplants, as a rule, are required no more than once every 3-4 years. Ready-made nutrient soil for cacti or succulents is best suited as a substrate. You can make the mixture yourself by taking clay-turf and leaf soil, humus and sand in proportions 2:1:1:1. The main thing is that the mixture is loose and rich in nutrients.

    In the autumn-winter period, watering is reduced. The lower the temperature in the house, the less often you need to water the plants. Excess moisture for Crassula is more dangerous than its lack, especially in winter. Excess moisture can lead to rotting of the root system and base of the trunk, as well as fungal diseases, as a result of which the leaves turn yellow, then darken and fall off. But if you avoid mistakes in care, Crassulas are practically not affected by pests and diseases.

    Crassulas are propagated by cuttings (stem and leaf), which easily take root in a loose substrate.

    4. Haworthia or Gavortia(Haworthia) have ideal characteristics from the point of view of “plants for the lazy”. They do not require bright sun, they do not need a lot of space. Haworthias even tolerate gross mistakes in care and prolonged absence of owners. But at the same time, they are cute, very diverse and can decorate any home.

    They owe their name to the famous English botanist and collector Adrian Haworth (1768–1833), which is why in some sources they are called Haworthia. These unpretentious miniature plants were first brought to Europe more than 300 years ago - in 1701, and during this time they gained extraordinary popularity, as they are perfect for growing indoors and do not require special care skills.

    Haworthias vary so much in appearance that it is sometimes difficult to imagine that they are all from the same genus. However, it is enough for a practicing gardener to know that this variety can be classified into three groups that are noticeably different from each other: hard-leaved, herbaceous and “window”.

    5. Spurge(Euphorbia - euphorbia) - an unconditional "survival specialist". These plants have no equal in the richness of life forms. Among them you can find low-growing trees and giant thorny bushes, stem succulents, annual and perennial herbs. Sometimes they are confused with cacti. But, unlike the prickly natives of America, they secrete milky sap. Hence one of their names - milkweeds. The composition of the milky juice of euphorbia includes rubber, amino acids, essential oils, sugars and resins.

    A toxic substance, euphorbine, was found in the resins. Therefore, almost all milkweeds are poisonous. Euphorbine can cause burns, inflammation of the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, and dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract. Care must be taken when planting and propagating these plants. But, fortunately, they can grow without requiring replanting for years.

    The scientific name of the genus was given by the ancient Roman physician Dioscarides in honor of his colleague Euphorbus, who owned the secrets of preparing a wide variety of medicines and potions from these plants. Their columnar trunks, thickened shoots and underground organs store water, allowing the plants to withstand long periods of drought. Where they grow, local residents plant them along their houses as hedges. Huge thorny bushes serve both as protection and decoration of the home. In indoor floriculture, milkweeds, of course, do not reach the same size as in nature, but this does not prevent them from decorating winter gardens and window sills.

    The bisexual false flowers of euphorbias, with the fancy name "ciation," come in white, yellow, pink, red and purple. various shades. The flowers are small: several male (with one stamen) and one female in the center, on a long peduncle. Therefore, the decorative effect of many species is determined not by flowers, but by colored bracts in the form of a glass. In addition, they are collected in complex umbrella-shaped inflorescences with wrappers. Most milkweeds are entomophilous plants - that is, pollinated by insects.

    6. Ivy(Hedera) transforms not only the landscape, but also the interior. Its dense thickets give a mysterious look to grottoes and old trees, hanging shoots with carved leaves give a classic austerity to flowerpots. And the ivy-covered houses and mossy stone walls look sentimental. Clinging to threads and ropes, carefully stretched from the closet to the window, climbing the walls, ivy is able to decorate the most inconspicuous room. Is it any wonder that for so many years it has been included in the top 10 most beloved and popular indoor plants?

    The image of ivy can be found in numerous ornaments. Its shoots twine around marble columns, decorate the staffs of Egyptian and ancient Greek gods, the heads of Dionysus and Bacchus.

    In world culture, many legends and myths are associated with this plant. For example, about Dionysus, at whose birth his mother died in a fire. The same fate awaited the baby, but the ivy thickets that suddenly appeared protected him. (By the way, the legend reflects the very real property of the woody trunks of the plant to resist fire.) And Dionysus, the god of winemaking, then decorated himself not only with grapevines, but also with ivy, since this plant, which cools a hot head with its leaves, was also attributed to sobering, and thought-provoking action.

    It is interesting that in both Egyptian and Semitic mythology, and in the Christian religion, evergreen ivy clinging to a support symbolized immortality and devotion. These are evergreen woody vines that climb a support with the help of aerial sucker roots. It is probably because of the flattened roots and shoots pressed against the support that the plant received its Russian name.

    7. Equally unpretentious sansevieria(Sansevieria). For its shape and color, people call it “pike tail”, “mother-in-law’s tongue”, “snake skin” and even “African hemp”. The dense, fleshy leaves serve as a kind of reservoir in which, thanks to the water-storing tissue, water is retained and the plant easily tolerates dry periods.

    The genus received its Latin name in honor of the Neapolitan prince von Sanseviero, who contributed to the development of natural sciences.
    Sansevierias are rhizomatous plants with a rosette of erect decorative fleshy leaves. Greenish-white flowers with narrow petals and long stamens, collected in a dense cylindrical inflorescence on a long erect peduncle, are very fragrant - they open in the evening and at night they emit a strong vanilla aroma.

    The fruit of Sansevieria is a spherical berry of bright red or orange color. Many sansevierias are grown in cultivation for the valuable technical fiber obtained from the leaves, and various garden forms are successfully used for landscaping indoors and winter gardens.

    A tradescantia, chlorophytum and ficus have phytoncidal properties - the ability to purify indoor air.

    8. In addition to being decorative Tradescantia(Tradescantia) is highly valued for another remarkable property - resistance to diseases and pests.

    They prefer light, moist soils, but can easily adapt to any habitat. They are able to tolerate a lack of moisture for a short time, since, like other members of the genus, they have a special layer of cells in the leaf that accumulates water. And besides, they are not afraid of weeds.

    9. Chlorophytum(Chlorophytum). Green plant - this is how the name of chlorophytum is simply translated: сhloros - “green”, phiton - “plant”.

    And it itself is one of the most unassuming. And... the most necessary things in our apartments. Judge for yourself: chlorophytum has a rare combination of advantages: an abundance of openwork greenery, rapid growth, plasticity in the interior and, most importantly, the ability to purify the air.

    It has been proven that in one day a plant, by releasing phytoncides, can destroy about eighty percent of pathogens located within a radius of one to two meters from it. Chlorophytum also almost completely cleans the air of formaldehyde emitted by chipboards, plastics and others. modern materials, from carbon and nitrogen oxides, neutralizes toluene and benzene. Thus, a few plants can purify and almost completely improve the air in an average-sized room.

    10. Ficus- perennial woody and shrub plants, there are also creeping species - lianas. Their inflorescences - syconia - cannot be called particularly beautiful, but it is difficult to disagree with the fact that they are original. It is a hollow inside, round or pear-shaped berry with a small hole at the top through which insects - small blastophagous wasps - pollinate the flowers. By the way, ficuses are cauliflorous plants, that is, their flowers can grow not only on the branches, but also directly on the trunk.

    The most common types of ficus:
    - Fig (F. carica) is a deciduous tree with beautiful palmate leaves. In Ancient Egypt, sculptures and sarcophagi were cut from it. It can be useful to us because even indoors it bears delicious fruits - wine berries. Several low-growing, self-pollinating fig varieties are ideal for a cool loggia. And what’s nice is that you won’t have to wait too long for the harvest: plants obtained from cuttings begin to bear fruit within two to three years.

    Ficus rubber (F. elastica) was once unfairly called a symbol of philistinism and mercilessly expelled from rooms. Now it has again taken its rightful place in the interiors of offices and apartments. This is one of the most unpretentious decorative foliage plants.

    The lyre-shaped ficus (F. lirata) has especially beautiful leaves - dark green, with light veins, leathery, thickened, with a wavy edge. They are shaped like a lyre - hence the name. Place the plant in a large, bright room and it will grow beautifully.

    No less interesting is the sacred ficus (F. religiosa). In India, Burma, and Sri Lanka it is planted next to temples. According to legend, it was under him that the reincarnation of Buddha took place. This plant has bluish-green heart-shaped leaves with beak-shaped, retracted tips, on which drops of moisture hang from time to time. “The Cry of the Sacred Tree” has a simple explanation: water is released due to changes in atmospheric pressure. By the way, monstera and calla lilies can also “predict the weather,” but this is quite unusual for the mulberry family. Ficus sacred does not tolerate the dry air of our rooms well, and therefore it can be seen in warm greenhouses more often than in someone else's home.

    Ficus goblet (F. cyathistipula) from tropical Africa is an incredibly resilient plant. It has elongated, leathery, dark green leaves with brown stipules, shaped like a glass. This species tolerates both dry air and relative shading well.

    But the most popular remains Ficus Benjamin (F. benjamina). It has small leaves, is much more graceful than other ficuses, and looks more like a regular tree. And it has just a lot of varieties and forms. By the way, you won’t find a better plant for a modern apartment.

    11. Among the unpretentious plants, there are also those that attract attention with their bright blooms. For example, geranium(pelargonium) is one of the traditional symbols of home comfort. The first pelargoniums were brought to Europe by Dutch sailors and pharmacists in the middle of the 17th century. Stopping at the Cape of Good Hope on their way to Indochina and Japan, they acquired local plants for botanical gardens and collectors. Within a century and a half, numerous hybrids and varieties were grown in Holland, France and England, some of which have survived to this day. Then they became as popular as tulips.

    Nowadays, numerous varieties of different types of pelargonium amaze the imagination with the variety of colors and shapes. This plant will require some work. In particular, to maintain compactness and abundant flowering, pelargonium needs regular replanting, formation and rejuvenation. But if there is no time for this, the geranium will still bloom, just not as profusely.

    Depending on the characteristics of the flower, varieties are divided into:
    * star-shaped - with pointed petals (simple and double);
    * cactus-flowered - petals are twisted lengthwise;
    * rosaceous or “rose buds” (“rosebud”) - densely double flowers do not open completely, they actually look like the buds of miniature roses.

    There are also one-color and two-color ones - with a contrasting spot in the center, at the base of the petals or with a border.

    Briefly about two types of this plant.
    1) Pelargonium royal. Some of the most popular among them are varieties from the “Angels” group. The flowers of these varieties have upper petals that are larger than the lower ones and slightly overlap each other. This shape and the violet-purple or dark red spots on a white background make them very similar to violets. The height of the plants is up to 30 cm, they grow well. "Angels", unlike other pelargoniums, need abundant watering and tolerate shading more patiently. In summer they can be grown outdoors in a border. Indoors, flowering does not last long, about a month, but on a balcony, sunny porch or in the garden they can bloom until autumn.

    2) Fragrant pelargonium. The most common variety is "Graveolens". The bush grows up to a meter high, but it has a thin stem, so the plant needs support. If you pinch it in time, it will be quite branchy. The leaves are split, light green, with a strong and pleasant smell, which is felt even with a slight vibration of air. In good light, pretty inflorescences appear. The flowers are small, pink or lilac-pink. The variegated variety "Lady Plymouth" - with large leaves decorated with a white or cream border, looks great both in edgings and in winter gardens.

    12. Oddly enough, but despite the fame of “tropical capricious plants” inherent in orchids, unpretentious ones can be found among them. For example, phalaenopsis, with butterfly-like flowers, will require even less hassle than geraniums. At the same time, phalaenopsis flowers last for at least three months. Translated from Latin, phalaenopsis means “like moths.”

    When buying an orchid in a store, take a good look at it: the leaves and flowers should be clean, without stains, and, as a rule, new shoots (future bulbs or rosettes) are stretching upward from below.

    At home, wash the orchid leaves and place the pot with the plant in warm water for half an hour so that all possible pests emerge from the substrate. After this, it needs to be placed correctly - put in a fairly bright place, but not in direct sunlight. Transparent containers are best suited for growing orchids, because the roots of the plant, like the leaves, are green and participate in photosynthesis.

    Phalaenopsis tolerates the climate of city apartments well. True, if the orchid is on the windowsill, then in winter it is better to place it on some kind of stand, since cool dampness is detrimental to the plant. The main thing is not to place it in drafts, as this can cause the plant to get sick.

    13. Other unpretentious plants with bright colors include hoya(Hoya). It is not for nothing that the abundantly blooming “wax ivy”, as the fleshy hoya is incorrectly called, can often be seen in in public places.

    Hoya owes its name to Robert Brown. This English botanist, known to every schoolchild, not only discovered the chaotic movement of molecules, but also glorified for centuries the name of Thomas Hoy, the head gardener of the Duke of Northumberlaine.

    The history of the name Hoya kerrii is interesting. Because of the heart-shaped leaves, it is popularly called “hoya in love” or “valentine”, and the plant received its official name in honor of its discoverer Kerr. But kerrii echoes the Greek word, which also means “dear, beloved.”

    Until recently, two species were common in culture: fleshy hoya (Hoya carnosa) and beautiful hoya (Hoya bella).

    The most popular is fleshy hoya. This is an evergreen climbing plant up to 6 m long. The shoots are quite thin, requiring support. The dark green leaves are medium-sized, thick, hard, oval-shaped, covered with a waxy coating and silvery specks. White flowers in the shape of stars, with a pink crown in the center, are collected in a rosette and have a delicate aroma. There are also variegated forms of these plants.

    Hoya beautiful is a small, abundantly branching shrub with rather small leaves and hanging shoots. Just like Hoya fleshy, it has a variegated variety. Its flowers are so perfect that they seem to be the work of a skilled jeweler. Each umbrella inflorescence has 7–9 small five-pointed white stars, the rays of which are slightly bent. In the middle of the star are translucent lilac shiny “flowers” of five petals, similar to beads.

    14. Decembrist or "Christmas Cactus". If you have heard about cacti that, firstly, are afraid of the sun, secondly, love water and, thirdly, do not have thorns, then this was most likely a “Decembrist”. A small genus of Schlumbergera, represented primarily by the well-known Decembrists. Sometimes they are called in the old fashioned way - Zygocactus.

    Brazilians call them "Christmas cacti" because they bloom there at the height of summer, at Christmas. Once in Europe, the natives of the state of Rio de Janeiro did not want to change their habit and still bloom at the same time, in December, when it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

    The genus Schlumbergera, named after the name of a famous cactus breeder, unites low epiphytic cacti with articulated shoots, at the ends of which red-colored, long-tubular, often asymmetrical flowers appear from the apical areoles. Normally, Decembrist blooms earlier - at the end of October - November.

    If the Decembrist does not bloom at all or produces very few flowers, something is wrong in the conditions of detention. Basic possible reasons- lack of nutrients and light. If the plant has not been replanted for many years (or is not watered often enough), if it stands somewhere in a dark corner where natural light does not reach at all, then you cannot count on flowering. Other reasons could be a lack of any nutrients or the pests mentioned above.

    During the flowering period, Decembrists are very elegant, but this beauty lasts only about a month. If you cross-pollinate the flowers of two Schlumbergeras, fruits will form that will decorate the bushes for more than a year. Decembrist with bright pink fruits somewhat resembles a decorated Christmas tree. These plants look unusual when they bloom at the same time as the fruits of the previous flowering.

    15. And if the “Decembrist” flowers add bright colors to winter, then eucharis(Eucharis) blooms with exquisite daffodil-like flowers in the fall. However, its large leaves are decorative throughout the rest of the year. Another advantage is that this native of the Amazon basin does not require bright lighting, and feels great a few meters from the window.

    In Colombia, eucharis is always among the “invites” to a wedding: brides wear its flowers in their hair. Eucharis, or Amazonian lily, is considered a kind of amulet for a girl, helping to preserve family happiness.

    We have Eucharis - one of the most popular and favorite bulbous indoor plants. Flower growers value it for its high decorative value throughout the year - it does not have a pronounced dormant period. Thanks to its large shiny leaves on long petioles, it looks great as a single plant and in flower groups: mature, well-grown specimens are especially beautiful. White, daffodil-like flowers of eucharis exude a pleasant, unobtrusive aroma. They stand well as cut flowers and are actively used by professional florists when composing flower arrangements.

    More than a dozen wild species of Eucharis are known, but only two are common in indoor floriculture. Most often found in home collections is the large-flowered eucharis (Eucharis grandifora) with spectacular inflorescences of 4–7 large, up to 12 cm in diameter, fragrant flowers on a long peduncle, up to 60 cm. Amazonian eucharis (Eucharis amazonian) has flowers about half the size, is less common, and is more difficult to find on sale.

    Flowers are the remains of heaven on earth. (John of Kronstadt)

    How long can donated cut flowers last? Not as long as we would like, and flora lovers may have a negative attitude towards such flowers. IN last years there has been a tendency to give blooming houseplants in pots, which, unlike cut ones, will remain not just good memories, but proper care will become part of the interior, fill it with new colors, charge it with energy and good mood.

    Decorative flowering plants are divided into light-loving species and shade-tolerant, complex and unpretentious species that require moderate or frequent watering. Some exotic species bloom once a year or even several years, while others bloom profusely most of the year and are well-deservedly loved by gardeners.

    Of course, those that bloom profusely and do not require complex care are most often chosen to decorate window sills and balconies. However, like all indoor indoor flowers, they need timely watering, fertilizing in the spring, and preventive measures control of diseases and pests. All their care will not take much time and effort.

    Basic conditions and rules for choosing flowering indoor plants

    Since beautifully flowering shade-loving plants can get burned in the bright sun, and lovers of the bright sun can stretch out, stop blooming and die, first of all, you need to decide on the conditions in which the flower will grow, which side of the apartment you want to plant - southern or northern, which lighting in the room, and only buy a plant based on these parameters. Particularly popular today are small, beautiful bulbous primrose flowers - crocuses and hyacinths, which delight with their flowering in early spring, but require certain conditions after flowering, during the dormant period.

    When buying flowering plants for your home, remember:

    • doing so better in summer, because when transported in winter, temperature changes and cold, beautifully flowering house plants may freeze;
    • at home, you should not place flowers in drafts, and on frosty nights it is better to remove them from a cold windowsill (this is especially true tropical plants with tender stems and leaves);
    • do not forget to constantly remove already withered inflorescences to give impetus to new flowering;
    • For beautifully flowering plants, the substrate should not dry out, so they need regular watering;
    • If your indoor indoor flowers do not bloom for a long time, move them to a dark, cool room for several days and do not water them, and then return them to their place. This “shock” method can produce results and the plants will begin to bloom;
    • After flowering is over, be sure to “feed” decorative flowering indoor plants to restore their strength. Even the most unpretentious potted flowers need such care and nutritional support, since over time the substrate becomes poorer and loses the necessary useful material and minerals.

    Top 5 most beautiful and abundantly blooming “living diamonds”

    An old Persian legend says that the devil, seeing how Eve was pleased with the beautiful and bright flowers, give her hope, turned them into gems to instill greed in human souls. But beautifully flowering plants still give us joy with their blooms and aroma. Their beauty is not so eternal, but they live and develop, lift our spirits and relieve stress. And the delicate petals of these “living diamonds” create an atmosphere of harmony and tranquility in the house.

    Our House Plant Magazine offers its list of the five most unpretentious flowering plants for the home. These potted exotic indoor plants blooming all year round, are unlikely to leave you indifferent, and their numerous types and varieties will allow you to create a wonderful collection at home.

    Saintpaulia (Usambara violet) is a perennial herbaceous evergreen plant that is familiar to many gardeners, and is often called the “queen of indoor plants.” These small exotic flowers are very unpretentious and shade-tolerant. Violet blooms almost all year round (spring, summer and autumn) with short rest periods. The plant's homeland is eastern Africa. Today, breeders and fans have developed numerous new species and varieties - simple and double, with smooth and grooved, wavy petals, leaves of different shapes.

    Care

    Optimal conditions for the plant are temperatures from +16 to +24 degrees Celsius, humidity within 60-70%, absence of drafts and direct sun. It is better to place Saintpaulia on windows facing east and west, but it also grows well on the north side. Watering should be moderate; overwatering leads to rotting of the root system. Therefore, it is better to add water to the tray of the flowerpot so that the flower itself takes as much water as it needs. You cannot spray the violet or pour water on the leaves! It is propagated by small bushes, developing near the main bush, by leaves. Caring for violets is not difficult. The only thing that harms it is an excess of water, especially in winter.

    The indoor rose seems to be specially created for residents of megalopolises who dream of such a flower, but do not have the opportunity to start their own “rose garden”. This ornamental flowering plant loves good lighting, but does not tolerate strong overheating. It is best to place it on the western and eastern windows, and move it to the balcony in the summer. Indoor roses come in different colors, and their compactness allows you to create a real greenhouse on your window. After purchasing a rose, it should be immediately transplanted into a large container; the soil should be nutritious. In favorable conditions, the rose blooms almost all year round with a break of one and a half to two months.

    Care

    The plant loves good lighting and constant watering (the rose cannot tolerate drying out; if the air in the room is dry, it needs to be sprayed frequently). It is important to regularly water the rose during the growth and growing season - in spring and summer; in winter, watering is reduced. Roses are fertilized every two weeks. The temperature of the plant is 20-25 degrees Celsius. Pruning an indoor rose comes down to removing faded flowers, dry twigs and leaves.

    Hibiscus (“Chinese rose”) is a small tree or shrub. Exotic hibiscus flowers - simple and double, fragrant and large in size bloom in the spring; they can decorate both an office and an apartment with their blooms. Hibiscus is a member of the malvaceae family and is native to China. Thanks to selection work, today you can purchase both large and dwarf and even standard species of hibiscus. The flowers of the plant are red, purple, lilac, white and yellow. Each flower of the plant blooms for only one or two days, but there are many of them on the bush, which allows you to enjoy the beauty of the flower for a very long time. The plant genus has more than 200 species, but the most common are the trifoliate and Syrian hibiscus.

    Care

    Caring for hibiscus is simple. Rose loves a bright location, but not too bright sun. You should not place it in drafts. It needs moderate watering so that the soil in the flowerpot does not dry out, but it should not be flooded. The plant loves frequent fertilizing with mineral fertilizers containing iron and copper, and in the summer - phosphorus salt. The flower tolerates cold well and can grow even at temperatures of +12-18 degrees Celsius in winter. Hibiscus is propagated by cuttings, and this procedure is carried out in the summer. The top cutting of the plant is cut off, planted in a pot and covered with a jar to create a microclimate for better rooting. It is from this rose that the famous medicinal tea “Karkade” is created.

    growing in pots on the window, always attracts attention, the plant will never go out of fashion, bright exotic balls of blooming flowers will decorate the window in the kitchen and room, and in the summer - balcony boxes. The plant belongs to the geranium family and has 280-350 species; its homeland is South America. Essential oil Pelargonium has a detrimental effect on some pathogenic bacteria, so the plant helps purify the air in the house. Pelargonium has a short dormant period - from November to February; the rest of the time it pleases gardeners with constant lush flowering.

    Care

    The plants are easy to care for, they love light and tolerate direct sunlight well, it is better to place them on the south side, especially in winter, on northern windows and with a lack of light, the flowers stretch out and lose their decorative effect.
