So, in essence, I don’t think it’s necessary to bother buying a special product to wash your brushes. In general, this is more marketing. If you want a special product (or it’s a pity regular shampoo), then below I publish a list of the most popular liquids for cleaning brushes:
- Sigmagic shampoo from Sigma Beauty: cleanses well and rinses off easily. Used as a regular brush shampoo;
- Pure Solid from BeautyBlender soap for cleaning and brushes (I also have this, it’s a very good soap);

- MAC Makeup Brush Cleaner (contains alcohol, but as far as I can tell it doesn't dry out the bristles);

Now, regarding devices for cleaning brushes, I’ll say right away that it’s quite possible to do without a special device. This is not a necessity, but rather just a way to speed up and simplify the process. Of course, you can simply move a brush over your palm at home (although it’s not a fact that the brush will be cleaned well in this case), you can also use a sponge (but always a new one, not with the remnants of the conventional “fairy” for dishes) Buy Chinese tools, or you can use special products for cleaning makeup brushes. It seems to me that this is purely a matter of personal convenience, and perhaps the wallet. One way or another, the most popular devices today are:

Cleaning my makeup brushes
Well, let's move from words to action, in the next part of the article I will show how to properly wash makeup brushes using the example of seven dirty ones, which are in the photo above. So, first, rinse the brushes under running warm water (hot water can “injure” the brush) and apply shampoo or other makeup brush cleaner.
I apply shampoo directly to the bristles of large brushes (such as foundation brushes, powder brushes, etc.). When washing eyeshadow brushes, I apply shampoo to the cleansing device itself, not to the brush. Because for small brushes it is difficult to calculate the volume of product.
Now let's get down to business! We wash our makeup brushes - to do this, you need to carefully move each brush over the cleaning device that you are using. If the brush is very dirty, I wash it again, using the “Refine” side for a deeper clean. This brush cleaning step can be replaced by simply repeating the previous step. There is only one principle. Gently move the brush and “create” foam. I would also like to give a couple of tips on how to carefully clean your brushes:
- There is no need to press too hard on the brush and injure the bristles; this does not in any way affect the degree of cleaning of your makeup brush;
- Especially carefully wash the place where the bristle of the brush connects to the handle, try to wash it as delicately as possible, without large quantity foam (so as not to provoke “molting”).
Now that we've finished washing our makeup brush, we need to rinse it (to remove any remaining cleanser). To do this, simply run the brush under warm (again, not hot) running water. How to dry makeup brushes?
Now about drying makeup brushes. In general, both options for drying brushes are acceptable: horizontal and vertical (although I am all in favor of the vertical):
- If you are drying your brushes horizontally (that is, if you do not have a special drying stand), then lay the brushes on a clean towel, after wringing them out a little;
- If you dry your brushes vertically, you shouldn't do it in a regular glass (you'll ruin your brushes, that's all), you should have a special stand for drying brushes with the bristles down.
I use a brush drying rack from Sigma Beauty. Vertical drying is a priority for me, this way water does not get into the part of the brush where the bristles are attached, which prevents the brush from coming apart and starting to fade.
In principle, such devices could be a carriage and a small cart. Both ordinary Chinese coasters and branded ones, it’s everyone’s personal choice.
