Making holiday topiaries with your own hands

There are many master classes on the Internet, but there are rules that you need to understand before starting work.

    1. The first step is to decide on the style of the craft. It could be a stylized Christmas tree or pine tree, a tree made of cones, acorns, glass balls, satin ribbons, paper napkins or money. You can use the symbol of 2019 according to Chinese calendar: yellow pig.
    2. New Year's topiary can embody the fulfillment of your cherished desires, which means that to decorate it you can add symbols of everything that you would like to bring into your life. These could be coins to attract money, a toy car to make your dream of a new car come true, or hearts to attract love. The creative process will be a resource for positive changes in life, because we all make wishes under New Year, so why not help yourself with their formulation by creating a topiary?
    3. Handmade New Year's souvenirs will be wonderful gifts for friends and family. Through such a gift you can express your best wishes.

So, what the tree will be made of is determined, it remains to understand how. The topiary consists of a crown and a trunk, which are subsequently attached to the base.

The base can be any flowerpot, flower pot, plastic or glass glass, cup, or small box.

For the trunk you will need a strong wooden stick, several wires twisted together, you can also use plastic or metal rods. The trunk can be straight or curved - it depends on the idea of your tree.

The crown most often has the shape of a ball. To do this, use polystyrene foam or various kinds of balls, on which materials decorating the topiary are fixed. For the Christmas tree, you can use cone-shaped shapes or an abstract crown.

    Crown

It’s better to start by preparing the crown. Let's consider several options.

    • Made from polyurethane foam. In order to make a round crown yourself, you can even use polyurethane foam. To do this, take two plastic sour cream boxes. Fill them with foam. When it hardens, remove the boxes. Glue the foam together with PVA glue, and then cut it so that you get a neat ball.
    • Made from polystyrene foam. Take thick polystyrene foam, you can use what is left over from the packaging of household appliances. Glue it into a cube using PVA glue and carefully cut it with a paper knife. True, when cutting polystyrene foam, the material becomes highly electrified and scatters throughout the apartment. It's best to vacuum it up immediately.

    • From threads. Take a balloon. Inflate it up the right size and wrap it with threads, soaking each layer with PVA glue. The layers of thread should be quite dense and cover the ball completely. When the glue dries, pop the ball. The result is an openwork base in which you can easily attach light topiary decorations.

    • Rubber ball. A medium-sized rubber ball can serve as the basis for a crown. Just don't use pins to attach jewelry to it. But a glue gun will attach the materials to the base well.

    • Papier mache. Paper, glue, paper. From papier-mâché you can create a cone-shaped, spherical, or crown non-standard shape. The disadvantage is that it takes time for each layer to dry properly. And the strength is slightly lower than that of polyurethane foam or polystyrene foam.

    • For a cone-shaped crown, foam, polystyrene foam, and thick cardboard are suitable. You just need to maintain the correct proportion of the cone.
    • Non-standard forms. Hearts and abstract figures are created in a similar way from any available materials. Creating such crowns requires more experience and patience.

    Trunk

As mentioned earlier, the trunk can be straight or curved. Ordinary wood, wire, and plastic are perfect for it.

To decorate the trunk you can use:

    • acrylic paints;
    • threads;
    • tinsel, rain;
    • crushed shells or ground coffee, tea;
    • other interesting and accessible materials.

    The basis

Often finished craft It turns out not very easy. In order to give it stability, you need to take care of a solid base. Most often, plaster or alabaster is used for this:

    Manufacturing process:

    1. Decorate the pot for the base.
    2. Pour alabaster solution into the pot. The consistency should be thicker than sour cream.
    3. Insert the barrel into the solution, fix it and wait until it hardens.
    4. After hardening, attach the crown to the trunk. Additionally glue the joint with PVA glue or other durable glue.
    5. Now you can start decorating the product.

Step-by-step master class on creating topiary: video

After deciding that there should be flowers on the table, I thought about the question of how to make topiary with my own hands, because... constantly change flower arrangements It's expensive in January.
Topiaries came to us from the times of palace luxury. When gardeners trimmed the crowns of trees and bushes in the form of balls, figures, birds. In floristry also giving perfect shape bouquets by trimming are very popular. Well, our housewives have learned to create a cozy atmosphere in the apartment with the help of mini trees. They set off the interior if they are made in appropriate colors and look unusual.

This tree looks quite unusual, ideal for the kitchen, because... it eliminates food odors and freshens the air.

    We will need:

    • Any vertical base for the trunk (stick)
    • Styrofoam ball
    • Pot, cache-pot, cup or flowerpot
    • Coffee beans
    • Twine
    • Ribbons of different widths
    • Sackcloth
    • Thermal gun
    • Construction gypsum

First you need to wrap the stick with twine. To do this, coat one edge of the stick with a heat gun and glue the end of the twine.

Choose the length of the stick yourself, depending on how tall you want the topiary to be.
The end of the twine also needs to be secured with glue.

Let's start decorating the pot. To do this, take our burlap and begin to wrap the pot.

Coat the pot with glue and wrap it with burlap.

Excess around the edges can be trimmed off.

To avoid any white gaps, paint the foam ball black.

We cut a hole in the ball for the barrel. Lubricate the end of the barrel generously with glue.

Let's start covering the ball with coffee beans. You can do this in different ways.

For example, we apply glue to the ball, and then put a lot of coffee beans in a handful, pressing them to the surface.

But all the grains that are not fixed will scatter in all directions.

You can do it differently. Glue one grain at a time, which will take longer, but be more accurate.
You need to work quickly because the glue cools quickly.

To make the pot stable, we will fill it with plaster. To do this, pour water into the plaster and stir.

After filling the pot with plaster, you need to insert the tree into it and hold it for a while so that it is fixed.

The plaster will dry in ten hours.
We begin to decorate the finished composition. We make bows from ribbons and glue them to the trunk.

You can use beads, twine bows, dried lemon, cinnamon sticks and other decorative materials.

Instead of sticks for the barrel, you can use skewers; they are sold in grocery and hardware stores.

Now we make a hole in the newspapers with scissors and insert the barrel into it, securing it with hot glue.

A foam ball of this diameter will cost you 50 rubles in the store.

Take napkins and fold them in half.

And again in half. And cut along the second fold line.

We fasten it in the middle with a stapler.

We cut each piece into a circle shape and bend each layer towards the middle, so we form a flower.

We wrap the topiary trunk with tape; to do this, attach one end of the tape to glue and wrap it around the trunk in a spiral.

Glue flowers onto the ball. To do this, apply hot glue to each flower.

You can decorate with ribbon rings. To do this, wrap the tape around your finger, maybe twice, and glue it at the base. You can use a needle to attach the ribbon ring to the topiary.

We put the alabaster in a flowerpot, insert the topiary in the middle and wait for it to dry.

Alabaster can be covered with the same flowers from napkins. We wrap the trunk with ribbon and make a beautiful bow.

If there is room left, you can put sweets in the pot.

    Making roses from satin ribbon

To make roses, take a ribbon and bend the edge at an angle.

From the end of the ribbon, fold the ribbon inwards, forming a bud.

Add glue along the bottom to prevent the rose from blooming.

After this, we tuck the ribbon under itself and we get a petal.

Take a pencil and twist the end of the bottom strip onto it. Next, we form a rosette,
glue it in the center. It turns out to be such a beautiful rose.

That's how many roses we got.

    2. Preparation of the trunk, installation of the tree.
We take a foam ball of smaller diameter, pierce it with a pencil, and decorate a glass of cotton swabs with a napkin.

We connect two balls with a pencil, wrap the barrel with a green ribbon.

We insert a small ball into the glass. For strong stability we use plasticine.

    3.Decorating the crown with flowers.
Now the fun begins creative work– we begin to decorate our ball with beautiful roses. We pin the roses in a circle using needles.

Decorate the surface of the pot. Place inside the pot paper napkins, put green “grass” yarn on them, tie a bow with a green ribbon.

This is what a beautiful tree we got.

    "Queen".

Rose is a symbol of perfection,
    Wisdom and purity.
    Her supremacy is recognized
    Among the colorful flowers.

The queen keeps in the petals,
The secret of tenderness and love.
    Everyone can enjoy
    The standard of beauty.

A bouquet of roses is charming,
Gives a symbol for each color:

    2. Now very carefully: we take what we folded a second time in the middle with our fingers and right hand we lift the bottom fold, as if we were twisting a candy wrapper on a piece of candy. And we hold the top of what we have folded with the finger of our left hand.

    3. Move thumb with your left hand in the middle and holding it so that it does not move, bend it again with your right hand and lift it, and so on until the end of the strip.

4.At the end, we twist the rest of the paper and hide it.

    5. Form a rose: roll it into a tube, starting from the place where we hid the rest of the paper.

    6. Secure with wire and straighten the edges of the rose.

    7. In this way we make 19 pink roses and 18 raspberry roses (repeating steps 1-6)

    8. We form a ball of the required size from the newspaper and wrap it with thread to secure the shape.

    9. We wrap our stick with floral tape.

    10. Insert it into a flower pot and fill it with the prepared alabaster solution.

    11. We cover our newspaper ball with roses as desired - I glued it in circles.

    12. Glue the finished ball to our trunk.

    14. We decorate the trunk with a bow.
