A wreath of leaves is an indispensable attribute of autumn photo shoots. The two most popular options are rowan and maple. Wreath base
The first step is to decide on the base material. In this selection you will find several options: choose the most convenient one.
Option No. 1: from twigs
To make the basis for an autumn wreath on your head, select young branches. Willow, birch, pine and other trees and shrubs are suitable, from which thin, strong twigs can be easily cut.
We strip the branches of bark and make them smooth. To make a wreath of leaves beautiful, you need to make the base correctly - it should not be too big or too small. Measure the circumference of your head, but constantly estimate the size of the workpiece as you work.
Use twine to tighten the twig ring. Then start wrapping rods around this frame. Build them up gradually and constantly reinforce them with jute.
Make a tight wrap when you finish braiding the branches and achieve the desired thickness of the rim for the wreath. Place the workpiece under the press overnight.
Option No. 2: made of paper and nylon
This base for an autumn wreath on your head will be made of lightweight materials, but you can rest assured of the strength and reliability of the design.
We have already told you before. The principle is the same here. Cut magazines and newspapers into strips and roll them into tight tubes. Twist them together or simply glue them together. You can also make the base for the wreath using tape or sew these strips together.
To finally fasten the structure together, take nylon tights and wrap them tightly around the headband.
On such a blank you can glue or apply leaves, berries or other accessories from which you want to make your autumn wreath.
Option No. 3: made of wire
The good thing about a wire rim is that it turns out thin. This means that you can make the autumn wreath on your head more elegant and lighter. This is ideal for assembling small leaves in one or two layers.
The wire must be folded into one, two or three layers and intertwined with each other, twisting it into a bundle. Select the degree of winding depending on the thickness of the material.
Intertwine the ends of the wire and hide them. Wrap the top with twine or tape. This is necessary so that the craft turns out smoother and does not tangle the hair.
This wreath can be braided with leaves on top or the material can be glued directly onto it.
To make the wreath on your head more convenient, you can form peculiar loops at the ends of the wire. Then we will tie ribbons there and tie it with a bow. You can make this a unique decorative element: for example, add a wide red ribbon and leave its ends free.
Weaving pattern
As a rule, all head wreaths are woven according to the same pattern. It looks like this.
You can use flowers, autumn leaves, grass, dried flowers, rowan branches or any decorative material as a basis.
Additionally, the spaces between two adjacent leaves can be fixed with fishing line, thread or twine. Also you can use satin ribbon to make the wreath more colorful.
Maple leaf wreath
The most popular autumn version- wreath of maple leaves. You can do it yourself quite quickly. Choose a warp from those described above, or weave without it.
The first step is to collect as many maple leaves of different sizes as possible. Dry them a little if it's humid outside.
The thickening near the stem must be cut off from each leaf.
We take the first sheet and bend the bottom edge so that we get a parallel line with the “stem”.
Using a branch of the second leaf, carefully pierce the first one as if making a stitch with a needle and thread.
We fold the second sheet in the same way as we folded the first sheet before. Take the third maple leaf and repeat the procedure.
So we go around the whole circle. To finish the wreath, you must first try it on your head, and then pierce the first and second leaves with the stem of the last one.

What is needed to create a craft?
The first thing you need is paper. It can be either white or colored. If you decide to make leaves from white papyrus, then you will need to color it with pencils, felt-tip pens or paints.
Color preference:
- red;
- orange;
- yellow;
- brown;
- green.
And it will be possible to make the leaves more original if you use special paper with an ornament (or wrapping paper). The main thing is that its shade is from the autumn palette, with notes of red and yellow. You can choose any ornament: geometric (stripes, diamonds, checkered patterns, etc.), abstract, or even with the image of leaves).
You will also need scissors and glue. In some cases, it is more convenient to use a glue stick. An alternative to glue can be double-sided tape.
Paper leaves: form No. 1
Instructions for creating paper autumn leaves first basic form (for example, like birch):
- Take sheet A4.
- Fold it in half.
- Cut along the drawn line.

- Fold the resulting triangle like an accordion, as in picture 1.
- We make a stem from the remaining paper (picture 2).

Instructions on how to make autumn leaves from paper using the origami technique, reminiscent of maple leaves (second main form):
- Take A4 and fold it in half.
- Draw a line with a pencil from one corner to the opposite.
- Draw a zigzag, herringbone-like line on top of the straight line.
- Cut along the intended contour (picture 1).
- Fold the resulting sheet of paper into an accordion shape.
- We make a stem (picture 2).
- Glue the parts together (picture 2).
The second form of autumn leaf is ready!
You can make any leaves using this method. To modify them, you just need to change the contours (edges), along which you will then cut out the craft.
Wreath made of paper autumn leaves
To make autumn leaves from paper for such a wonderful wreath on the door, you will need ten sheets of colored paper 8 x 8 centimeters per leaf. You can use smaller or larger sheets, the main thing is that it is a square.
Instructions for creating a wreath from autumn paper leaves:
- Take one sheet of paper.
- Fold it in half to make a triangle.
- Unfold the sheet and place it with one of the corners facing up.
- Fold the left and right corner of the diamond to the center fold line, as in picture 1.
- Fold the new left and right corners of the figure towards the center again, as in picture 1.
- Make three pieces of the same parts as in step 4.
- Make six of the same pieces as in step 5.
- Take one part from point 4 and two from point 5.
- Fold the three pieces as shown in picture 2.
- Lubricate the top part with glue and glue the bottom two to it.
- Make two more parts in the same way.
- Glue all three components together, as shown in picture 3. Each component must be placed on top of the other. As a result, you will have a finished leaf.
- Now you can make a branch. Glue the paper to the back side of the finished leaf so that one corner peeks out (diamond-shaped).
- Trim the glued sheet of paper on both sides and fold it as shown in the picture below.
- One autumn sheet of paper is completely ready. Make a few more leaves and combine them into a wreath shape.
Magic autumn leaves made of colored paper
To make such a miracle leaf, you will additionally need to take a set of needles, pins, tweezers and a board.
Instructions on how to make magical autumn leaves from paper:
- We take a regular sheet of paper and draw a maple leaf with several veins on it (picture 2).
- Place the sheet with the design on the board (picture 3).
- We cut a bunch of multi-colored strips up to a centimeter thick and about 10-15 centimeters long (picture 5).
- We insert pins along the contours of the drawn sheet into its sharp corners.
- We fold each strip of the same color in half and attach it to a pin (pictures 6-9).
- Lubricate the contour, each strip with glue.
- Take a strip of a different color, twist it and put it in one of the cells of the outline (picture 10).
- We fill all the cells of the frame in this way.
- We make a stem (picture 11).
You can give a leaf a special color - a transition from one shade to another. To do this, dilute red, orange paint and each in a separate container. Take a sponge. We soak it in red and blot the finished leaf on top. Then dip the sponge in orange and add color to the middle. Finally, paint the bottom of the leaf with yellow paint.
The autumn leaf is ready!
Simple autumn leaves
The easiest way to make autumn leaves out of paper with your children is to use a special shaped stapler (sold in large office supply or specialty stores). If there is no such thing, but you don’t want to buy it, then you can resort to the old method: fold five pieces of paper (or take one and fold it several times), draw the outline of a leaf (for example, aspen) and cut it out.
Using these blanks you can make original wreaths.
To get wreaths like the ones in the picture, you need:
- Make a lot of colorful paper leaves (at least fifty pieces).
- Cut a circle of any size from cardboard or other dense material.
- Glue the leaf blanks to the circle, starting from the outside, not from the middle. To do this, you can use either glue or double-sided tape. In the second case, the circle should be covered with tape, not the leaves.

Wire wreath with stems
To begin, unwind enough wire to wrap around the head twice and cut it off with wire cutters. 
Twist the ends of the wire around the resulting circle very tightly so that it is reliable and safe. Double-check that the circle fits well and comfortably on your head, then set it aside. 
Now that you have the base for your wreath, it's time to start creating the flowers! Cut 15 cm of wire using special wire cutters. 
Fold in half and twist the ends together, forming a stem with a small loop at the end. 
Wrap the small loop and the rest of the barrel tightly with kraft paper tape. Please note that the tape holds well when wound on the same tape, so make sure it tightly covers the previous layer and work your way down the stem. 
Tip: process will go faster, if you hold the tape diagonally to the stem and twist the stem itself with your fingers. Cut off the excess tape with scissors and wrap it around the end.
How to make paper flowers and leaves
Nobody wants to waste time cutting out each petal individually. Fold the kraft paper several times like an accordion, bend it 4 cm at a time, then fold it in half and cut out several layers at a time. 
Cut out round petals with a small loop at the top. Make sure that you cut all layers evenly and that the petals do not move. We made the petals 5 cm wide and 4 cm long, but you can also do this with other sizes. 
While your petals are still in a neat pile, wrap them all tightly around the pencil, then twist each one individually. Make sure that the stripes on the kraft paper line up along the pencil. 
Place a small drop of glue on the stem, about 2.5 cm from the top. 
Let the glue cool for 2 seconds, then glue on your first petal. Press the bottom of the petal onto the stem and glue 5 more petals, wrapping them around the stem. 
Once the 6 petals are glued on, wrap the ribbon around the base of your flower, working your way down the stem and wrap it all the way around. Press the tape well at the base of the flower, this will help it hold firmly enough. 
At this stage your flower may look like a pine cone, so now is the time to shape those petals. Twist the petals outward, wrapping them around a pencil, and alternatively, twist one or two petals inward, which will give the flower more naturalness. 
Look at this big one beautiful flower! Once you master this, the rest will be easy. 
For orange flowers, cut out the petals a little smaller than for pink ones, about 3 cm wide and 4 cm long, to give the wreath some variety and volume. But the creation process is absolutely the same! 
And those green leaves? Exactly the same, but instead of 6 petals you need to take 2 or 3. 
These bright green companions are simply smaller versions of their dark green friends. Simple enough! 
Put on some good tunes and repeat the process until you have everything you need to create flowers and leaves. We believe that five flowers of each color is enough for a wreath, they cover 2/3 of the wreath in a circle, leaving a little space, which will give your image its own special style and naturalness.
How to make a wreath of paper flowers
The wreath on the left uses 5 flowers of each color. On the middle wreath – 2 large flower, 3 small and 16 leaves. And for the classic one (on the right), 8 large flowers, 12 small and 15 leaves were used completely in a circle. 
Arrange your flowers and leaves along the circle of wire, highlighting your favorite ones in the foreground and framing them with leaves along the entire length. 
Now carefully tighten the wire, leaving the entire structure intact. 
Start twisting the stems of your flowers around the circle of the wreath so that the ends are hidden under the next stem and together they sit beautifully. 
Once you have added all the flowers and leaves, finish off your work with ribbon, wrapping it tightly around the entire circle. Yes, between all the colors. Bend flowers and leaves to reach hard-to-reach areas and exposed wire. 
Now adjust these flowers a little by hand, it will take some time, wrap the petals here and there. It's amazing how kraft paper can behave and change!
