You can measure the radius with a ruler and calculate the required wire length using the proposed formula. You can also use another method, and by applying the wire to the sketch of the circle, determine the required length. It’s even easier to form a circle “on the fly” without precise calculations.
In any case, we have decided on the length. Now twist its ends using pliers to form a circle. Depending on what the next layers are made of, wind one or two more layers of wire, fastening them all together. Ready.
The cardboard ring is made without a blank. A circle of the required diameter is drawn on a sheet of cardboard. Next, a certain distance from the outer line is set aside at four points of the circle (so that the inner one turns out even). The inner circle is drawn using the marked points. Now we remove it without disturbing the external one. So we only have the headband left. These are the rings for the New Year's wreath, on which decorative elements are attached.

This way they will be directed in one direction (from the inside to the outside), and we will get a relatively smooth and voluminous wreath. For this option you will need flexible and long branches.
A wreath of holly, fir or mistletoe is made in the same way. You can find it in flower shops or grow it in the garden. This amazing plant also remains green throughout the year.

The Internet appeared and, finally, the smart idea came to look in its vastness for the technology of making New Year's wreaths with your own hands.
At first, my eyes ran wide from the many options. But then I remembered that I like it to be beautiful, fast and economical, and I began to look in this direction. What I liked, I bring to your attention.

The story of the origin of the Advent wreath is very touching. In 1839, Lutheran theologian Johann Wichern, who raised children from poor families, made such a wreath for the first time. The children were looking forward to Christmas and constantly asked if it would come soon. Then Johann came up with a great idea - with the onset of Lent (Advent), in 28 days, make a Christmas wreath from an old wheel, decorating it with fir branches. He placed 24 small red candles and 4 large white ones on this wheel. And every day before morning prayer he lit one red candle, and on Sundays a large white one.
Initially, the tradition of decorating a house with a Christmas wreath meant a pleasant anticipation of the holiday. And still in many European countries, 4 weeks before Christmas, one white candle is lit on Sundays. The round wreath means eternal life, and candles are divine light.
But the tradition itself turned out to be so beautiful that it spread to other countries, including Orthodox ones. The wreath is prepared before the New Year, and it has become an integral beautiful attribute New Year's holidays in our homes.
DIY New Year's wreath base
You can make wreaths from various auxiliary materials - fir branches, cones, burlap, Christmas balls and even wine corks. But the main thing in a wreath is the base on which all this beauty will be attached.
There are a lot of ways to make a base; perhaps over time you will come up with your own. And now I want to offer you a very simple and inexpensive way to obtain the basis for any Christmas wreath.
What we need for work:
- wire about 75 cm long, you can use aluminum with a cross-section of 2 mm; it is important that it is not soft and keeps its shape;
- old newspapers;
- threads;
- light paper (toilet paper, paper towels or used paper tablecloth);
- organza ribbon 4 cm wide;
- padding polyester
Step-by-step instruction:
1. We bend the wire so that we get a circle with a diameter of 25-27 cm. It is possible with a smaller diameter, but you need to take into account that then you will glue cones, toys, and so on to the base, not only along the outer diameter, but also along the inner one.
It is necessary that when finished, there is empty space inside, otherwise it will no longer be a New Year’s wreath.
Twist the ends of the wire. If it is difficult to do this with your hands, use pliers. It is best to ask men to do this; they have been able to handle wire since childhood.
The result should be a ring, as in the photo.
2. Now we take old newspapers and threads. First, we crumple newspapers in our hands, and then we begin to wrap the wire with these newspapers without pressing tightly. To prevent the paper from moving, we wrap it with thread on top. We make 2-3 turns with newspaper, then we wrap these turns with thread, again 2-3 turns with newspaper and again secure with thread, and so on.
3. If the first layer seems thin to you, then roll up the second layer of newspapers, not forgetting to wrinkle them well first. This gives volume to our workpiece. The result of this stage is in the picture below.
Actually, the blank is already ready, you can glue twigs and toys onto it. Would you say it's ugly? I think so too. So let's move on.
4. Now take white paper and wrap the resulting donut with white paper, securing it with white threads. You can make several layers, this will only benefit the bagel, it will become stronger.
Look at the picture to see what happened. Already beautiful, right? But there is one caveat. If in the future you plan to decorate the wreath not very tightly, then White paper will shine through, and this is already low-quality work. So let's make another layer
5. Take an organza ribbon and wrap our donut in one or two layers over white paper. If you took a brown ribbon, then the bagel turned into a ring of Krakow sausage. Does it really look like it?
We choose the color of the tape depending on what you will glue in the future. We were going to stick on pine cones and spruce branches, so the brown tape will show through quite naturally.
Why did you choose an organza ribbon and not a satin one, for example? Because details don’t stick well to satin ribbon, but they stick to organza very well.
That's it, the base is ready, you can start making the Christmas wreath itself.
But, take your time. We have another very simple version of the base.
You can use strips of thick white padding polyester instead of newspapers and paper. Just like with paper, wrap these strips around the wire. Just fasten it not with threads, but glue it with a silicone gun after 2-3 turns.
First, glue it to the wire; if a second layer is needed, then to the padding polyester of the first layer. The end result is this cute fluffy miracle.
Just remember that this base will hold up to lighter embellishments.
New Year wreath made from newspaper tubes
I warn you right away that this is not the easiest wreath to make. Rather, it can even be called complex. But it turns out so beautiful and so economical that I couldn’t help but talk about it. Or rather, it will not be me who will tell the story, but those craftswomen who have mastered this method.

Christmas wreath made of pine cones - step-by-step instructions
An inexpensive and very cute wreath is made from pine and fir cones. Let's go to the forest or the nearest park and easily find material for our wreath.
Glue on ribbon bows.
Add bows made of gold braid. Glue pearls into the middle of the bow, or pine cone, or wherever else your heart desires.
Wreath made of burlap and wine corks
This wreath is suitable not only as a New Year's decoration, but also for decorating the kitchen. After all, in almost every home there are used wine corks. These are the ones we will use.
What you need to make a wreath:
- sackcloth;
- wine corks;
- cinnamon tubes;
- Bay leaf;
- allspice or black peppercorns;
- nuts;
- Raffia is a natural fiber made from palm leaves; you can use a suitable rope or twine instead.
We take the base for the wreath and instead of a brown organza ribbon we wrap the future wreath with burlap. We do this carefully overlapping, so that later, while we are gluing the corks, our wreath will not become disheveled. We use a glue gun as usual, gluing the burlap to the base from time to time.
Now we will glue the corks to the burlap, beautifully distributing them throughout the wreath.
It turned out like this “bagel sprinkled with corks.”
Now take the raffia, fold it in half and make a loop. I have already written that instead of raffia, you can take rope or thick twine; it is important that they match the color and do not seem alien. Glue the loop to the base.
The remaining long ends We wrap the raffia around the base and secure the ends with glue.
We finally decorate the wreath with cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, peppercorns, seeds, nuts and anything else that comes to hand in the kitchen. Bright accent The wreath would contain red rose hips or any other berries.
Master class on making a New Year's wreath from beads
What you need to make a wreath:
- green wire thickness 0.37 mm;
- large beads, red or blue;
- green beads (can be mixed);
- gold beads No. 10 for the garland;
- a ring or steel wire of the small diameter we need;
- ribbon;
- bell;
- glue.
1. As always, the work begins with making the base. For this wreath, we take a ready-made ring or make it ourselves from wire. The diameter of the ring is approximately 15 cm. The ring can be wrapped in green tape or paper so that the gaps are not so noticeable later.
2. Then we string green beads onto a thin green wire 3-3.5 meters long.
3. We twist the following loops from the stringed beads.

4. We wrap the base with the resulting ribbon, periodically gluing the beaded ribbon and the base. Our simple boring wire became green and fluffy.
5. The next stage is to string large red (you can add blue, silver) beads onto a thin wire.
6. Again we wrap our already green and fluffy base with wire with red beads, beautifully distributing them between the green loops.
7. We string gold beads onto a thin wire 1.5 - 2 meters long. We wrap the resulting beauty around a base with greenery and red beads. From red satin ribbon Let's prepare a bow.
The junction of the warp wire must be closed
8. Glue some beautiful leaves on the front side. We wrap the loop of the bell with a loop of ribbon and glue it so that the ribbon loop from the inside covers the junction of the wire. We attach the bell to the leaves from the front side.
9. The final touch: glue a red bow on top.

How to make a wreath of Christmas balls with your own hands
A wreath made of Christmas balls is the most beautiful and most New Year's wreath. And you can do it very quickly, in just half an hour.
Provided, of course, that everything necessary materials on your desk:
- white and blue ribbons;
- Christmas balls of different sizes;
- white wreath base;
- white tinsel;
- strong white thread.
First of all, we wrap the base of the wreath with white tinsel. To prevent the tinsel from moving, we glue it to the base in several places.
We tie one end of the white thread to our fluffy donut. The thread must be strong enough so that it does not break when we start stringing balls onto it.
Let's start decorating the wreath. We string 3 balls, make 2-3 turns of thread around the base and glue it. Next, we string 3 more balls, again make 2-3 turns of thread and glue again. And so on until we decorate the entire bagel.
We make a loop from the ribbons, tie it to the wreath and tie it beautiful bow. Our wreath is ready. Did you do it in half an hour? Great!
Christmas wreath on the door made of tinsel and pine cones
Of course, such a wreath will decorate your home and give it a fabulous and festive mood.
What we need:
- spruce and pine cones, pre-tinted with white gouache;
- green tinsel;
- pearl beads;
- a garland of red small beads;
- small bows made of silver ribbon;
- big red bow;
- balls of different colors and sizes;
- balloon with artificial snow.
- As the basis for this wreath, we cut out a “donut” from cardboard, the inner diameter of which is 25 cm, the outer diameter is 36 cm. We immediately make a loop from the ribbon and glue it to the cardboard.
2. We wrap the workpiece with green tinsel, gluing it in several places.
3. Where the loop is located, glue a red bow on the front side.
4. We wrap a garland of red beads around the entire wreath.
5. Glue the cones. If necessary, paint them with white gouache again.
6. Distribute the balls over the wreath and glue them.
7. Add several small bows to the composition. Add pearl beads.
8. Using a balloon with artificial snow, spray the entire surface of the wreath. It is important not to overdo it here so that instead of frost you end up with a snowdrift.
It turned out great, I just want to praise myself.
Step-by-step instructions for making a felt wreath
Before, I had no idea that Christmas wreaths could be made from anything. I thought that it would be beautiful only if I used balls, cones and spruce branches. But once I saw felt wreaths, I was simply fascinated by them and I want to show some of them to you.
What we use:
- felt of various colors;
- beads;
- ribbons;
- plus everything your imagination suggests.
Basically, flowers and figures are made from felt, which are then attached to the base. But even the base itself can also be made from felt.
This is how simple flowers are made.
1. Blanks are cut out of felt.
2. Then each petal is sewn together to create an indentation. The petals are sewn to the base of the flower.
3. A beautiful bead is sewn inside each flower.
4. Now we distribute the flowers beautifully over the base, glue them to it, and add leaves of green felt. Of course, don't forget about the loop.
We get such a beautiful and easy-to-make wreath.
